  1. That's a beauty for sure. Gives me incentive to complete mine. I'd like to get my hands on a case like you have as it's stunning. Who did the work on it, NOSValves?
  2. Well I'll take a stab here. I haven't seen Allan around here in a while, so I am guessing he's probably pretty busy with the backlash of the WGA strike. Granted, I am by no means the jazz guru, but I grew up in L.A. (Pasadena), and I have lived here most of my life. What G.Kennedy said below. You'd be hard pressed to find a better music store than Amoeba on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. They have a HUGE offering. If I were you, I'd go see the Jack Sheldon Quartet at Charlie O's in Valley Glenn on Tuesday Dec. 11th. Charlie O's is a great little place to see live jazz, just ask myself, garymd or boomac. I had the privilege of seeing Jack Sheldon with Allan, garymd and boomac plus his son Kyle at Jax in Glendale, CA. Jack was fantastic and hilarious as well. In fact, if I wasn't going to be out of town next week I'd join you there. What do you like to do? A few suggestions, you could go to the Getty Center, Huntington Library, La Brea Tar Pits, LA County Museum of Art, The Natural History Museum of LA County, or the Norton-Simon Museum. You could hit the beach or the slopes as well. If you're lucky, maybe Allan will see this thread and chime in with his southland expertise.
  3. I was have always been happy with my Garmin Edge 305, and I just bought the new Garmin Edge 705. Of course neither of these units would be real practical for use in a car, but the 305 has worked great on my bikes. I anticipate the 705 will as well once I receive it. I have heard good things about the Garmin Nuvi series.
  4. Yes Dee, it shows LSU favored by 13 and the over/under is 59. To bet the money line on LSU, you'd have to wager $110 to make $100. Happy Thanksgiving!
  5. I know quite a few people that have recently been laid of from banks. Downey being one of them. Wow, loan loss reserves increased from 69 to 142M?? This WGA strike could get really bad. I am hoping it doesn't go on for very long.
  6. So, what's the housing market/economy like in Arkansas Dee? I am curious to know if people in other areas around the country are experiencing what we're experiencing. I felt this was coming several years ago when I saw data that showed over 50% of the median priced home sold were 100% financing. If you did a little digging, you'd often find it was actually more that 100% with cash back at recording to help with the closing costs. WTF??? That sure smelt like a recipe for disaster to me.
  7. In the greater L.A. area we have been feeling the pinch of the sub prime fallout for a few months. And now the WGA is on strike. If that strike goes on for an extended length of time, it wil also have a serious impact on the local economy as so many people in the L.A. basin are either directly or indirectly linked to the WGA. To make matters worse, we hear that crude is going to $100 a barrel and upwards. This is not good news at all. []
  8. Probably just Craig, unless he brings Flynn & Parrot along.
  9. Glad to hear your doing OK down there Jim. My cousin may not be so lucky. She and her family live in Modjeska Canyon. What makes the whole situation in Orange County even worse is that it is now a confirmed arson fire. I just cannot understand what possesses people to commit arson? If convicted, they should lock the SOB up and throw away the key.
  10. Jim, are you guys OK? Were you evacuated? I sure hope things are going well for you and Michelle. Post and let us know about your well being when you can.
  11. Pick up a Scott 299 B, C or D and have Craig at NosValves.com give it a rebuild. Trust me, you will not be disappointed with a good source. I was only disappointed after I sold my 299 to my neighbor.
  12. Jim, I wish you the best of luck. Lake Arrowhead is now on fire now and a lot of their resources are down the hill fighting the other So Cal fires. Man, oh man it sure is smokey around here with all these fires. It's been raining ash. I am very thankful that my house is not currently threatened, but I'm extremely concerned for all my family and friends whose homes are. There's a new fire which just broke out in Devore near the I-15/215 split. This is a really horrible situation for many Southern Californians, and it appears to be getting worse. [] My family and friends could use a bit of luck over the next few days. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
  13. I wonder if anything has changed with AAFES since Andy's original post?
  14. I have ridden on ledges in the mountains similar (without the sheer face) to the pictures you've posted. One mistake would prove disastrous/fatal. I can tell you one thing, it's not something I look forward to. Oh, and I try not to look down. []
  15. We're not in Kansas anymore Toto. [] Congratulations Bill, those sure do look SWEET!!!!! OK, I'll be honest with you, I have Jub envy now.
  16. Best wishes and a very happy birthday to you Gregg.
  17. Yep, had to, high cholesterol is not good
  18. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. Here's a hint as to what I did yetserday. Any guesses?
  19. Whoaaaaa Woo, 900 miles in 4 weeks is some serious mileage!!! You'd ride circles around me. My hat's off to you, I am not worthy. You must go through a lot of tires? So I have to ask, what are your favorite(s) since you definitely have plenty of first hand knowledge.
  20. It's been a fantastic summer of riding. I've ridden over 2400 miles since the end of April. Has anyone else been hitting the trails/road over the past few months? Keep pedalin!
  21. Glad to hear the good news Jim! I am happy for you guys.
  22. I'm not a fan of either USC team but that first statement was proven to be total BS! Southern Cal is the real deal in college football. makes sense to me
  23. yeah well, we won the last meeting. I know, that is a stupid statement (but at least true), almost as stupid as "there's only one "real" USC". My USC is just as "real" as your USC. There are pictures, documents, etc that prove it exists. It is real. Your USC has a good football team that plays in a candy azz conference. My USC has a mediocre team that plays in a bruising, tough as nails conference. lmao, very amusing commentary. no need to take it so seroious and personal. I guess you didn't catch the [] jeez, relax and enjoy life. there's a lot more to it than sec football.
