  1. A very nice pair of Hartsfields sit on display in an audio store in Madison, WI. I was there last summer and tried to get the owner to play them, but I was told that they are for show only. Maybe since they don't sell horn speakers in the store, playing them would be bad for business!
  2. Cash bar and hors d'oeuvres would be my vote. If there are enough beer drinkers, a keg might be a good idea (half for Craig, half for the rest of us ).

I have the latter. +++++++++++++ EDIT - Oops...I see on your "stats" that you have a pair from '85. Guess that makes them 4 ohms and 91db. I should have looked first. Sorry. ---------------- Yes, mine are the 4 ohm. However I had a pair of the 6 ohm KG4s for a while when I was first experimenting with multichannel. There was really not much difference in the sound and loudness between the two. The later KG4s also had some sort of circuit protection to the tweeter that the older ones do not. Incidently, when I bought my KG4s, the speakers that I really wanted were Cornwalls. However, they were outside my budget and I lived in an apartment. A few months later I was back in the store and by then they had the Fortes. I remember how balanced they sounded with great bass, smooth clear mids, and wonderful high end detail, and they were small enough for an apartment. I wish then that I had waited to buy them (of course I had no idea that they were coming out and the salesman was not about to delay a sale by telling me something better was about to be released by Klipsch).
  4. This is a fabulous 5.1 DVD. I saw Page-Plant when they toured with these musicians (or some that looked just like them) doing these arrangements of their classic Zep tunes. It must have been 10 years ago. The DVD is just how I remember the concert sounding. I think I counted 30 musicians on stage for the Kashmir performance, simply amazing, but I am a big Led Zep fan.
  5. 20 years ago I bought KG4s instead of Heresys because of the lack of bottom end in the Heresys. The passive 12" radiators hitting down to 38Hz sold me on the KG4s. Of course this was before powered subs were common place to fill the bottom end. Part of my decision could have been in the way that the two pairs were demonstated at the audio store. The Heresys were not set up optimally for listening, and since the KG4s were just introduced, they were set up to demo better. I felt that the KG4s sounded better at that store that day. I totally agree that the cones do not compare to the mid range produced by the Heresys. I thoroughly enjoyed my KG4s (and still do) for many years before I got Cornwalls and then Khorns, but given the choice today, I would have to go with Heresys over the KG4s, because the weakness of the Heresy can be overcome with a powered sub.
  6. "This is my business, Buy and Sell." Obviously, not everyone is here for the pursuit of good audio and hanging with friends.
  7. Johnny Reno and his Sax Maniacs, "Born to Blow"
  8. I have to get this on SACD. Not only for the multi-channel mix, but mainly for the SACD 2-channel. The CD is good, but the vinyl is better, and hopefully the SACD will do this excellent album justice in a digital format.

  10. "I think it would be nice if everyone that's coming would chip in $10 towards the room as previously suggested." Count me in too, but if it gets too loud, I'm staying anyway. I'll just go stand in the corner behind a speaker (a trick we learned from Gary )
  11. I booked at the Holiday Inn early this morning. They still had 20 rooms available at the $99 rate. All double bed rooms are $229.
  12. The P-trap is the same regardless of the network. It is a 3.0 uF cap and a 0.10 mH inductor in parallel on the positive lead of the squawker.
  13. I always let my HK430 (or 630) warm up for a couple of minutes before engaging the speaker select switch (the wife has also been trained to follow this procedure ). If the speakers are selected when the unit is powered up or powered down, bad sounds may occur, even with the volume turned completely down. This cannot be good for the speakers or the nerves.
  14. "Please try and take photos of better-looking people this time..." I resemble that!
  15. Depending upon the mfg date of the Heresys, you might be looking at caulking the horns, replacing crossover caps, and adding P-traps to get the smoothest response. You should not have to mess with the Heresy IIs. And in mahogany, they will look great! If you will not be using the Heresys IIs with the Cornwalls in the same system, the slight difference in timbre match won't matter anyway.
  16. My wife's 1999 Q45 has a Bose system. Actually it's not too bad for a factory installed audio system. (Did I just say that about Bose? )
  17. I hate it when the "skin" peels off of my speakers!
  18. You are much more likely to see me in shorts, a tee shirt, and wearing top-siders!
  19. Thanks for posting those. They show a charming and warm lady. You were blessed to call her your mom, and she to call you her son.
  20. nicholtl, Taking your advice, I picked up the Faithless "No Roots" CD, and the Tiesto "parade of the athletes" CD for our party. My European friends from Greece and Romania were the first to notice when I switched to the techno beat. This is when the party moved from the kitchen area to the living room where the Khorns are located. Then my friend from Romania went to his car and brought in his CD case full of Romanian dance club music. I couldn't understand a word of the lyrics, but the beat was good. Anyway, thanks again for the techno suggestions.
  21. Condolences. Your mom was obviously a very special and cheerful person. Her wit and good nature are passed on to you. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. David
  22. Flying in from Fort Worth (aka Cow Town) via DFW. Yee Ha!
  23. While I was hoping for a DiMarco win (the underdog), Tiger's shot on 16 was unreal. It actually stopped, and then rolled another 1/2 turn into the hole. Makes you wonder!
