  1. I know I know ugh! I give up, I always like having to edit a post becuse I ....oh nevermind
  2. double post damned internet connection
  3. "I know, listen w/ your own ears" You hit the nail on the head right there. I use the surround sometimes and others I stay in two channel. It depends on the recording and how well it matrixes into multichannel. There are times I like the expanded sound field presence. I have found disks that were originally mastered digitally tend to work a little better in Multi than ones where the original master was analog. I have a DTS 5.1 remix of Wings Venus and Mars and the reengineering was interesting but I think the original two channel sounds much better. Ive also found that some of the preset music hall equalizations are entertaining on live recording as well. What it really comes down to is experiment and find what you like. Hey - Its your system enjoy it.
  4. I am using the digital, leave the response on slow and just accept sampling changes and use the average; its what your analog will basically gives you, as the sampling reaction is slower. I like it a lot, made a world of difference in my sound and imaging for both multichannel audio and HT stuff too. I have thought about getting an AVIA disk but my receiver only lets me adjust front Center, L/R/C surrounds and front effect in relation to the Mains, as they are either set to Normal or 10db. Although the AVIA would probably help me get a better picture out of my TV, but its just 27-inch Sharp Cinema Select so I am not overly motivated to get the disk just yet. But analog or digital I would definitely get the SPL meter, you will be happy you did.
  5. It might, might work even better of you grounded it. However I believe the best solution is to move the TV off of the Bell Klipsch. I have never heard of shielding a speaker from TV interference, usually the other way around. But I would guess you are getting as you said power supply interference. So moving the TV seems to me to be the best option.
  6. Congratulations on your Heresy's. Welcome to the Klipsch Heritage owners club. I think you will find you love these speakers regardless but you are correct there is a definite affinity for tubes here. I have not had the pleasure of running my La Scalas with tubes; I have always used SS amps and now a SS receiver since I am in a multi channel HT rig. But I do someday hope to test the tube waters. Anyway welcome abord!!!
  7. If the receiver is turned off it can't interfere with the TV. As you have indicated you have disconnected everything and turned it all off and your TV still squeals. I would also discount antennae interference unless its from a powered antenna and even then its a stretch. You source of EMI/RFI is likely inside your TV. How high a pitch is the squeal, I have heard power supply choppers squeal pretty loud but those were in transmitting devices. Most power supply noises I have heard were usually hums or lower frequency sounds. IE the 60 HZ variety. I suppose it could be from an outside source do you use cable, a standard TV antenna, or a disc set up? But I'd bet its your set.
  8. I have a set of 1983/4 La Scala's and I have been reading a lot about the rope caulk "mods" to the squawker and the consensus seems to be if you have metal horns do it and if you have composite horns don't. I have searched some older threads but have not found a clear description of what a composite horns looks like vs. a metal horn. I believe mine are metal horns but I would like to make sure. Can some on provide me a visual image (picture) or apt descriptions of the difference between a composite and metal horn? Not material differences but actual appearance differences. Thanks! Jim
  9. "Anyway, I now will be able to power all 10 speakers with McIntosh amps." Q-MAN you are killing me. Actually you are enticing me to go ahead and plan my "ultimate rig" MY long range plan(mind you I can't define that time period) is to false corner 2 Khorns, a split La Scala for a center, 2 Heresy's for front effect and three La Scala's across the back. Your work is simply phenomenal, although I must admit a severe case of speaker envy at the moment.
  10. Ranger, Thanks for sharing your pics. Brought back a lot of memories for me. I lived in Japan from 1982 - 1989 when I was in the Navy. The Budda in Kamakura is some sight isn't it? Did you see the Hase Derra as well, or the Samurai Museum in Kamakura? I lived in a small village/town called Hayama, where the Emperors summer Villa is. I enjoyed myself when I was stationed over there. Something a lot of people dont understand is that English is a compulsory subject for Japanese children in grades 7-12. Did you get a chance to go to the Aki Habarra district in Tokyo or actually just north of it? That is the famous Electronics ware Ginza. Did you try Yakitori or any of the other Japanese foods staples?
  11. OK you have a room set up that is a tough one to work with, but first I would set up some soundstage symmetry. By that I mean to space your front sound stage in such a way that your listening position is centered between the L and R mains. Then place the center either directly under or over the TV. Put your surrounds to the side of your listening position if you can or if not put them behind it but spaced apart to line them up with your main L/R. Another option is, if possible could you orient your room to put your sofa in front of the half wall to the kitchen opening and maybe your chair off to the side (?!?!?!?!?!) move the surrounds to the side of the sofa, and place your TV, Mains across the wall where the sofa is now? It obviously your room and you set it up to your requirements but your soundstage in your current set up is way off center. After that then evaluate to see if you want to upgrade to RF 25/35 You may also want to consider putting you RF 15s in the rear as surrounds and upgrading to the afore mentioned RB-25/35s for mains to get better multi-channel music. After that room treatments would be a good idea. But hey its your gig this is just my recommendation.
  12. On 4/15/2004 8:52:25 AM Maron Horonzak wrote: TCB...you asked this question on 3 sites one would be sufficient. ---------------- Sorry I'm disperate to solved the problem. So let him post it where he feels he needs to. Its not like we are paying by the byte here. He is using the forum for its intended use. He is not the only one to do this. While I agree some forums are better suited for a particular question than others its not a crime to post it in others.
  13. Dave, The links I posted earlier are links for K-77/M tweeters available on E-bay. These should/will plug directly into your existing networks. I did not notice what networks you have, but looking at the year of your La Scala's, I am going to assume they are probably AL series. Al K, referenced earlier in this thread, offers both parts kits and matched assembled networks series A networks that are direct replacements for your networks. These networks have changes made to enhance/improve the sound. Your networks are like mine 20+ years old, with component aging and other intangibles their sound has probably degraded some, I know mine has. I am going to be placing an order for the kits with Al this week. Just about everyone that I have read about who has done this mod are very pleased with what their La Scala's sound like. I completely understand your wish/desire to maintain/restore the sound that was originally built into your La Scalas. I feel the same way. Good luck. Jim
  14. What effect do your bass bin braces have sonically? Do they tighten/improve the bass response at all? Your project is looking pretty interesting so far. The bass bin/dog house is my dilemma on my project. I an undecided whether to rip out the rear board and just refinish everything in the dog house area and replace the rear board with a new one or try something like you are doing with the rosewood pair. I will be interested to see what you do with all three sets. Thanks for posting your work.

  16. Happy B-day Moon don't know ya very well but everyone should have a good B-day
  17. Try contacting Al Klappenberger at(See below), he is also on this forum also Q-MAN is pretty sharp on your topic. alk@toad.net alk@alkeng.com
  18. "I have acquired a taste for the mornings. I watch the sun rise every day having coffee and quiet time." SHHSHSSHHH!!!! I am trying to sleep!
  19. Another option is if you have an aux input run your XBOX through it I had to drop it(the XBOX video) to S-video but thats not a problem for me.
  20. Well my first recommendation would be get the La Scala's, you can re-finish them, as Q-Man said he will provide some info on this. I have a set and am going to veneer the to make a more finished look. I am sure it will be a task and a half but worth in IMO at least at this point. Your deal on the Cornwalls looks pretty good. Myself I prefer the La Scalas but I have heard the Cornwalls and they sound great too albeit a different sound at least to me anyway. I like the tightness of the bass on the La Scalas over the Cornwalls but other prefer eth Cornwalls. Actually looking at this I am leaving you with your original dilemmagee what a guy. But your choice is a tough onewhich Heritage to buy. We should all be faced with such trials and tribulations. Good luck enjoy.
  21. m00n, Artto, Thanks for conducting this thread out in the open for all of us. I have illusions or should I say delusions of getting a new house and setting up a listening/HT room similar to what you are doing here for us all to see. The wealth of information here is staggering. I look at some of and think man that is obvious if you think about it, and then of course I realize what is really more obvious I did not think about it. I am really learning a lot from this. m00n I appreciate your willingness to share your growing pains and artto's willingness to share his expertise with us. Jim
  22. No actually was just kidding. I am working (I use that word in the broadest of definitions) on an all heritage rig. But I'll pass it around (Your RS-7's for sale) maybe can find a nibble or two. Like I said its your gig, enjoy it. Also looked at your pics hope you plan to post your end results and more in process stuff too, seeing all the work people on this forum do is definitely educational/very helpful. I was just looking at Artto's room and I got a brain sprain just thinking about it. Id love to be able to do that but I think I lack the spacebetween the ears.
  23. mOOn, one thing: ITS YOUR GIG, that is all that matters, if you like then its good. But one question, when you throwin them extras away, when you do throw out in SO CAL..(oops did I type that or did I just think it.) LOL... Looks like great to me....Enjoy.
  24. How far should you place your La Scala's from the wall? The manual that came with mine when I bought them 20 years ago was to corner them toes in to such a degree that you can project the desired sweet spot. Ideally you would get the best bass response that way. That having been said La Scala's were designed to work in a freestanding field and still reproduce substantial bass. So you really do have a lot of placement options. One thing to remember is the wider the toe in the further down your room your true sweet spot will be, or as you move closer to the source you will have a widening effect of sweet area and not just one projected point all be it within limitations. The toe in widening is more of a compromise to widen your listening area. You will be off of the true sweet spot but youll have a slightly wider range of good sound projection and imaging. Try to set your range from your listening position to the speakers as close to equidistant as they are apart. Doing this perfectly will give you the best imaging but it will narrow your sweet spot some if you placed them at a 45 degree hence a widening of the toe in will help this. I would place some carpet pads under the speakers for two reasons; one to protect your floor and two to cut down reflections some. Enjoy!!
  25. "I believe they are about $600-650 ea" $1100-&1300/Pr...looks pretty close to what I originally said...no harm no foul. Any way he should be entitled to a replacement set IMO.
