  1. I believe the correct term is modifying, not upgrading, your Heritage speakers?
  2. This may have been written but being too lazy to skim through twenty odd pages how 'bout we drop the term upgrade for modified or hot rodded or the simplest - changed. I bought my KHorns with Dave's Fastlane top hat and ALK extreme slopes already in place. They do not have a Klipsch badge anywhere on them. I tell people that have no knowledge of what a KHorn is that they are a modified KHorn. Are they superior to a stock KHorn? Don't know, never heard a pair in my room. I do know that for my ears they sound really good. And in reality I probably shouldn't refer to them as KHorns? I imagine Chief would have less problem with what I own being referred to as modified KHorn as opposed to "upgraded" KHorns. They are what they are.
  3. What? Some fifty years ago my father found a local carpenter that was building pool tables as a sideline. Still own it, been moved into different homes four-five times, never with people making a living at moving tables. The framed base is 3/4 in mahogany with five 2x10's used to place the 3/4 inch, one piece marble top. And yes this thing is a ***** to move. But through all this it is level; flat as a pool table you might say! Matter of fact I recently wanted to move things around in the Klipsch room so my wife and I moved it by ourselves. Two 2-ton floor jacks on each long side lifted it onto moving dollies under each leg. Pushed it around like it was a feather, well a heavy feather. Checked for level - dead nuts. Never had to touch the bottom leg adjusters.
  4. Well --- The thread must still be interesting enough to find time to post while at an NFL minor league game? Just sayin' -
  5. No clue 'timer. Probably why I've stayed away from the fray. But it has made for enjoyable reading.
  6. First post in this near dozen page, thrill packed thread but guys, is it really expected that Klipsch carry a complete inventory of parts for products that are 20, 30, 40 years old? Other than the cabinetry and engineering I venture all remaining components were and are outsourced. It's physically and economically impossible; and obsolescence trumps them all.
  7. Sounds like a company with many layers of "non-producing" overhead, any company's biggest expense.
  8. TWK - how on earth can you expect a sonic improvement by investing all of $.20? Oh, the shame ---
  9. Therein lies the trade off of self-employment and working for a company. I was lucky enough to have worked for a company with great benefits, liberal vacation and co-workers that really are friends. Did that for nearly 30 years, unheard of today. Self employment is being in charge, answering to yourself (family) and making a go of it. But you provide Everything - insurance, vacation, retirement and unless the business is large enough to employe others, countless hours that you must be on site. After so many years with my company I pretty much had the run of the place, 5 weeks vacation, fully funded retirement plan, travelled when I thought neccessary, didn't get rich but could have been much, much worse. Hmmm, why did I retire?! Continued good business MKP, it ain't easy.
  10. My KHorns are about 11 feet apart from center, so at 22-23 feet I will need 8 of these beauties minimum. So if my math is correct 8 x 600$ = 4800$. A little over twice what I paid for the KHorns but can envision a degree of improvement that is hard to put into mathematical terms. Can you really put a price on sonic bliss? I believe the proper response is one we are all familier with -- Bullshitt!!!
  11. Thanks for the pics Christy, they certainly give a sense of scale to the rig. And confirms my earlier fears - these are too large for my bedroom, I need to pass.
  12. Appears those fleas gave you the McIntosh itch. And itch it you did!

    What I Got Today!

And I am not sure I have ever seen LaScallas so abused -- so sad.

    What I Got Today!

Nice paver work A1 - is this an indication that you have settled into a satisfying hifi rig?
  15. CEC - I see you're packing light? Experienced drinker, er, ah, traveller ??!!
  16. Oops - so long ago, Oops - so long ago, memory slowing fading, aging by the minute - man that's a sad state of affairs!! But good catch ---
  17. You are correct, Sir - however we never loaded a rig with Burt Reynolds behind the wheel !!
  18. Well, ain't that a beaver of a different flavor?!
  19. We were in the liquor business back in the day when Coors was not sold east of KS. We sold a bunch of Coors to folks heading back east. This was back in the good 'ol innocent days, remember those? We had two or three truckers who would let us know a few days ahead and to have so many cases ready to load. The Coors distributor would just turn his head the other way as we basically unloaded cases from the Coors driver to the truck driver.
  20. Remember - ? Helll I'm old enough to remember that the church key actually opened the door to our church!
  21. No technical expert but doubt there is an issue with the pre itself. Classic case of system matching, or mis-matching, that I have experienced all too often. And I find the issue much more pronounced with our 100-105db Klipsch speakers. I imagine the pre has too much output voltage in relation to your amps. I have a NP B1 passive that had virtually no play in the volume before like you say, would put me to the back of the room, I spoke with Nelson who had me send it to him to install "more forgiving" volume controls. It now comes on song around 12 o'clock vs. 8. You could try some line attenuators between the pre and your cables that cut output 4, 6, 8db but I really don't like putting another roadblock in the system. It's really just an RCA plug with an internal resistor. Are you running tube or SS amps? Best luck
  22. For the past two-three weeks I am not able to view the photos associated with someone's ad. I get a small box with a ? In it. This holds for both the main feature photos and all others. This issue is for both my desk top Mac and iPad. To my knowledge I have not changed any settings. Frustrated -- Thanks.
  23. Agreed, and a Shu Plus -- No Shipping!!!
  24. That's certainly more pain than I'm willing to endure for a $3 Titleist! I'll tee up another, thank you --
