  1. Jim, what kind of music do you listen to, mostly? What's your listening environment, room size, furniture, etc? These things make a difference. Let us know more about your tastes in music and other important factors, and it will be easier for us to help. Anyone recommending you simply buy a set before listening or considering other factors is bunk, or maybe they are just joking, not sure.
  2. Pardon my ignorance (my wife sometimes does....), but what are those?
  3. A genuinely nice man. He was everyone's friend here, and I'm sure to many others.....Very sorry for your loss.
  4. This guy makes some pretty nice things, at seemingly reasonable prices. http://www.timbernation.com/index.cfm
  5. Is granite as "dead" as a maple platform? My brother is a very skilled cabinet maker, and I'm thinking of asking him to make a maple platform for my turntable, however, I also have a very local source for granite, so am wondering what the comparison would be?
  6. You old farts... These days it's Katy Perry Anyway, is it possible to get a decent glass rack for less than $100? Or should I just be looking on craigslist? Yes, but think of Jacqueline Bisset as a 1977 "Heritage" rack. Then we can all appreciate the build and craftsmanship involved. Ah, "Heritage Rack", that's a good one....Another would be Jamie Lee Curtis in "Trading Places"....doesn't get much better than that.
  7. More importantly, which fine wines will you be serving?
  8. Have never used this, but will be interested to see what the wood working gurus have to say about it. Your stain doesn't look all that bad, and am wondering if perhaps using Howard's Restore A Finish with 0000 steel wool would do the trick?
  9. From AK... http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=314406
  10. Denver/Green Bay in SB. Baltimore will beat NE next week, Denver over Indy (should be great game), Luck vs. Manning....
  11. Photos and weights. Horn on the right in each photo is what I understand to be the "First generation" K-700 horn. Much thicker construction, but much less dense, and weighs an entire 16 oz. less than the other. So, my question remains, why is the thicker horn (supposedly) more desirable?
  12. Please, someone buy them, bring them to Hope in April, and we will put lots of sweaty drink cups on top of them, and not feel guilty.
  13. Great heart, super nice man.
  14. You may want to PM the OP to see if he is still looking. That's a nice deal with the upgrades.
  15. How can you NOT be in the market for $125?
  16. It appears to me that there are two iterations of the K-700 horn. The "first generation" which has a rougher finish and looks thicker in construction. Then there is the next generation which has a much smoother look, seems to be thinner in construction, but which is noticeably heavier in weight. It seems that the "second generation" heavier horn would be more desirable, yet I've seen numerous listings on the bay and elsewhere stating that the thicker "first generation" is the better and more expensive of the two, even though it's quite a bit lighter in weight and apparent density.....Am I reading this right? Is there a noticeable difference in performance between the two?
  17. OK, I'm sorry, but look at the spectacular figuring on those and then tell me how someone can abuse them that way? Still a pretty awesome deal for 6 bills.
  18. Absolutely!! At the beginning of the film. Lovely.
  19. Paul's current backlog is....10 months...just in time for Christmas 2015!!
  20. Uh oh, Price Police!! Good luck with your sale, ask whatever you want, nothing wrong with that.
  21. Well, getting it cheap but needing repair does not equal cheap.....and finding someone to do the (extensive? minimal?) repairs is not exactly easy either.
