  1. I was thinking that I could bring a few "different" items that the folks might be interested in. My pair of ClaudeJ1 Super Heresy's (or baby Cornwalls as he calls them), a vintage Pioneer SX receiver, and an interesting little Qinpu A6000 MKII tube amp that plays like a big boy....all easy to set up, and fun to listen to. Just a thought.
  2. Dang, you California boys get all the good stuff....
  3. It was quite disappointing to say the least. I certainly don't begrudge anyone who can afford to acquire many of the items I briefly looked at, but come on, there are many, many, many items at the other end of the spectrum that deserve a look, a listen, a review. Perhaps it was just those two particular issues, and I hope so, but I'll be interested to see what shows up in my mailbox in the next couple of months....
  4. Playing the devil's advocate here.....OK, slow down....lots of "go get them"... but no one has asked how much they are going for...Secondly, are they willing to play them for you? "Immaculate" speakers with bad components are no bargain at all. Take a little bit of speaker wire with you, perhaps an interconnect for your phone, and ask to use one of their receivers. Listen to them before you leave the shop if possible. Would be wonderful if you got a bargain and a nice pair of Cornwalls. Let us know.
  5. Got my first issues of Stereophile and The Absolute Sound last week, and, I won't be renewing my subscriptions. IMHO, the only content worth reading were the reviews of recently released music, or re-releases. The remainder of the issues seemed to be nothing more than showcases ("Come on down!!") for manufacturers of "high end" equipment. $200,000 turntable (really), $90,000 pre-amp, $2,000 headphone amp....and on, and on, and on..........I honestly didn't know what to expect when I ordered the subscriptions, so now I know I guess....
  6. I like frogs for the most part, but wherever that video was taken, I wouldn't want to live there.......however, it is pretty darn funny.
  7. Been watching those for a few days now, ya never know.......
  8. Thanks BB, I already own two pair, but was just trying to research some other info.
  9. I have tried searching in numerous parts of the forum many, many variations of KG 5.5, and I am getting no results. What gives? There has got to be related content out there....
  10. Also got to watch Cal Ripken's last game....now THAT was magic....
  11. From flippin' vinyl in a hipster store to titanium hips as FM antennas....what a great thread....I think...
  12. Yep, sure do, not so uncommon really. I sometimes use it as an FM antenna, just stick my leg out the window, and put my finger in the socket on the back of the receiver....depends on the weather, but sometimes get pretty good reception...
  13. I have one, want it? Due for another one any day now....and I'm not a "real" old guy.....just moderately so....
  14. I guess this really wouldn't be considered hijacking the thread...but we used to go up there at night, even though we sometimes worked the day shift, and should have been eating and sleeping...just to watch the F-14's go into afterburners on the catapults...nothing like it in the world....
  15. Thebes, if you haven't seen the TOP 40th Anniversary DVD/Concert yet...it is a must! Absolutely awesome. Best I have ever seen them or heard. The last few songs they have over 20 musicians on stage, and the sound is incredible. Went to see them at a jazz club in Seattle not too long ago, had a much smaller band, but still fantastic. The core team is amazing...one of my favorite bands of all time. Oh, and by the way, my wife has been instructed to play "You're Still a Young Man" at my wake....everyone's invited! Free Busch Lite!!
  16. Yep, saw it, fantastic. Doesn't get much better than that.
  17. All great advice above...these folks know what they speak of....
  18. Not a Klipsch problem...figured out it was my Chrome browser. AFU, reinstalled, AOK.
  19. In the last year or so, I've been putting together a few vintage receivers to pair with my Heritage speakers. I picked up a Marantz 2230 sweetheart last week and I love it. The old Marantz and Pioneers have a sound like no other. Enjoy!!
  20. Working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier will do it to you every time....hearing protection or not....
  21. Keeping cost down seems to be a big issue for you, so here is what IMHO I would suggest from that perspective. If you don't know if any of the drivers are good, plug them in and play them to find out first. That should be your starting point. (Hope they were a REALLY good bargain if you bought them without listening...) Secondly, the crossovers may look bad (most old ones do), but doesn't mean they ARE bad. Certainly for a short term solution, you can replace the caps with Dayton Premium Audio caps (1%), clean up the dust and crud, and go from there. Have fun...a good winter project for you up there in the north woods!! http://www.parts-express.com/cat/capacitors/68?N=21113+4294967118+4294967060&Ne=10166&Nrs=collection%28%29%2Frecord%5Bendeca%3Amatches%28.%2C%22P_PortalID%22%2C%221%22%29+and+endeca%3Amatches%28.%2C%22P_Searchable%22%2C%221%22%29%5D&PortalID=1
  22. Here's a couple of mine....yummy...yours look very nice too!!
  23. No, I was getting an auto message from the forum when trying to reply to a PM, that was a red box and said you must post a message longer than 3 characters....my entire reply text would then be lost....strange and it has happened a couple of times in the last few days. Seems to be working ok now, but will keep an eye on it and report if it happens again.
