  1. I was working in the lab late one night When my eyes beheld an eerie sight For my monster from his slab began to rise And suddenly to my surprise He did the mash He did the monster mash The monster mash It was a graveyard smash He did the mash It caught on in a flash He did the mash He did the monster mash From my laboratory in the castle east To the master bedroom where the vampires feast The ghouls all came from their humble abodes To get a jolt from my electrodes They did the mash They did the monster mash The monster mash It was a graveyard smash They did the mash It caught on in a flash They did the mash They did the monster mash The zombies were having fun The party had just begun The guests included Wolf Man Dracula and his son The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds The coffin-bangers were about to arrive With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five" They played the mash They played the monster mash The monster mash It was a graveyard smash They played the mash It caught on in a flash They played the mash They played the monster mash Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring Seems he was troubled by just one thing He opened the lid and shook his fist And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?" It's now the mash It's now the monster mash The monster mash And it's a graveyard smash It's now the mash It's caught on in a flash It's now the mash It's now the monster mash Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band And my monster mash is the hit of the land For you, the living, this mash was meant too When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you Then you can mash Then you can monster mash The monster mash And do my graveyard smash Then you can mash You'll catch on in a flash Then you can mash Then you can monster mash
  2. Man, where is that women's broomstick. Even I take a better mug shot than that! You want strange, rent the movie "My Borther's Keeper". Took place about 1/2 from where I grew up. Pack your bags and get out of there until Halloween's over!
  3. Please change you name back before I bust a gut.
  4. We're Klipscher's and we accept no stinkin imitations! We speeet on them!!!!
  5. A Halloween Parteeeey! Its an overnighter next weekend at a friends house in Salem, Mass. Also, their younger sister, Bubbles, is joining us. Now Tawny is going as Vampira, and Tickles will be smashing as a 1950s sci-fi rocket girl complete with bullet bra, really short skirt, mid-thigh boots and cape. Not sure exactly what Bubbles costume is, but Im given to understand it involves feathers, a large birds cage and a swing. Not decided yet what to wear, thinking Blue as in color of leather jacket, name of gang leader played by Pete Fonda in a 60s Hells Angel movie. Although, Ill be passing through Baltimore on the way up, so that leads me to Rocky Horror Picture Show. Maybe Divine in a white suit. Anyways, shot my mouth off, said I know some people that know music inside out so, all of a sudden, Im in charge of the tunes. Hey its Halloween. Need strange, scary, novelty, weird, spooky, dangerous, you name it. Help me out and Ill PM you directions so you can crash the Paaaaaaaaaaaarteeeeeeee and meet the gals.
  6. Dodger, I'd be interested in some of the lps (good list by the way) but I'm not sure if I have anything to trade that you might want. Got a few spare cd's but they might not be your style. Also have a broken Rotel 855 cd player.
  7. My thrust in those days, and to a lesser degree these days, was music not audio. If it moved me, who cared about the quality per se, ignore the the noise and feel the groove. Related, I think. Got my ex wife's old 60's 70's record collection over the weekend, cleaned a bunch of them and threw them on the turntable. They are all beat to death. Called her up and said in a congratulatory voice that you were into playing your music not treasuring it. First album I tried to clean had candle wax all over it, must have been set down to close to the Mateuse bottle with the candle in it. Music in those days was a part and parcel of our existence, culture, moments, moods, politics, being you name it. It's not a fair comparison.
  8. A good mixed response so far with some excellent suggetions and pointers on how or why it may not work. To flesh this out a bit, it would be offered annually, that's once a year folks, to a forum member. I've suggested a nominating committee of the 50 top posters to come up with say 10 candidates. Voting could be by say the top 500 posters or by the entire membership over a two week period. The idea of using a nominating committee of top posters is that they spend a lot of time here and probably have the best feel for what individuals would meet the general criteria. I think the nominating criteria would argue against it being a simple popularity contest and the type of people I think would receive nominations are the not type that would begrudge a fellow member a hearty thank you from all of us for helping to keep this place helpful and interesting. If Klipsch wants to leave this solely to the membership, I'm sure a few of us would be willing to chip in a few bucks and perhaps, say purchase a nice lp from Alan Songer along with a plague. A lot of people go out of their way to help oout and I just felt a simpe aknowledgement would be in order, so please weigh in on this one.
  9. The topic header will give you a pretty good clue about what Im proposing. I hope youll check out the whole topic in Home Audio/General and provide the membership with some feedback. Thanks

  13. What makes this such a great place to hang out? Great gear, great speakers of course, but primarily great people. I think something a little more then a thank you is order for some of our best people, came up with this idea, so here goes: Klipsch Forum Appreciation Award An annual award to the individual we think most exemplifies the following characteristics: 1. Contributions towards aiding and helping other forum members 2. Technical Expertise 3. Promoting a sense of community 4. Participation The basic idea is to essentially say thanks to one individual each year for their participation, work, willingness to help others, and promote a sense of community amongst the membership. It could be a simple a virtual plaque up on the virtual wall, along with the thanks of the membership. Or perhaps the nice folks at Klipsch would offer up a piece of memorabilia or a piece of gear along with a plaque. Perhaps the award could be presented at the annual Klipsch gathering or on the founder's birthday. Whatever. Technical Details: I was thinking of a nominating committee of say the top 50 posters, with selection by vote among perhaps the top 200 posters, or selection by nominating committee with the award decided by popular vote over say a two week period.. I'm also talking about the entire Forum, not just Home Audio. Because we do like to have a little fun here, now and then, I propose the award be called....drumroll....: The Khorny! Good idea, bad idea? Anybody want to chime in or offer to help out or improve on the proposal.
  14. Frank, you may not be able to find this one since it's an lp and may not have been pressed in quite a few years. Historical Guitar-Collection of Casa de Musica Denon PCM Recording Stereo/OX-7013-ND, sticker on it says: Imported Recording Mastered with Digital Technology. Musicians on it are: Mitsuhiko Hamada Hideo Shinma Masaru Koyama Mikeo Hoshido Used google to find a Casa Da Musica but my spanish is poor so I'm not sure it's the same. Quite frankly I'm not sure Denon was ever in the record business so this may have been a promo included with some of their gear. MayBE you'll come up with something if you google the players. They all are playing classical guitar music on this one. I think I better keep availability in mind for my future recommendations. Also, fellow participants, a second heads up on Marianne Faithful's Blazing Away. If you can find it get it and then send me congratulatory telegrams. SUPER,SUPER,SUPER MUST OWN!

    "Field of Dreams"

Great movie based on a book by one of our greatest authors: Michael Kinsella. Teach your kids to love to read by getting them one of his books.
  16. When all else fails, read the instructions! (Homer Simpson-you have my permission to use this on your show)
  17. Zoot alors! Les Yankees les incroable! Les Sox have teeny tiny bats to go wid de teeny tiny chance pour victorie.
  18. Great participation last week. Nice so see some the classical and jazz affaciandos stopping by. Just curious, and it's certainly not a requirement for contributing, but has anyone besides me availed themselves of any of the suggestions coming out of these threads? So what do you have to share this week? Format is simple. Name of artists/group, style of music as best you can (jazz, blues etc.), whether its's a cd or lp and any comments you wish to share. As usual I'll start it off with: Historical Guitar Collection of Casa de Musica. Classical guitar music. This is a lp put out by Denon using Digital mastering technology. It's a japanese import with several Japanese classical guitar players using 8 diferent classical guitars from various craftsman and eras. Gentle, relaxing melodious music and very well recorded.
  19. Congrats. I like mine too and I did order up the Monster wire upgrade. Now that I have a system next to my computer they only really get used for games, but when I go away for a vacation it's a different deal altogether. I usually go to a lake and the ocean once a year. So I load up my 2.1's, a walkman, and a box of cd's. After I unload the car I set them up in about five minutes and wallah, much better sound then you'll get from the cheap gear or boom boxes at any beach or lake rental.
  20. Now this has been a very informative post. First I never even knew they made gear without adjustment knobs, I guess that puts me firmly in the world of low to mid-fi. I guess originally I was just trying to determine if I'd lose something by fiddling with the knobs, and I'm definetly to lazy to play with them all the time, only ocassionaly when a particular cd doesn't sound right. Very interesting the way different folks approach the whole of issue of getting the sound right. Thanks!
  21. Great idea. Actually what I'm really looking for is a cd: Miss Peggy Lee Sings the Blues. Lost my copy but still got the case. Really liked this one. Anybody?
  22. Lynn, Cable I know you both like organ music and have participated in those threads in the past so I've decided that Lynn as first up gets the 3 lps set and Cable get the single. Please PM me with your addresses and I'll try to track down some boxes this week and ship thme out next weekend. Again, they've never been opened so I'm hoping they'll be in good shape and provide both of you with some pleasure.
  23. Welcome. You'll like it here and learn a lot. Now I'm in charge of knowing nothing about everything, so somebody else will have to anser your question. But I'm sure they'll be along soon.
  24. For organ fans only. I have four lps in their original shrink wrap: 1: Pipe Organ Favorites-Oldies we Know and Love" Lee Irwin at the Wurlitzer 2: a 3 lp set by Realistic "Organ in Stereo" Alshire Records lp 1: Leon Barry at the Giant Wurlitzer Organ with Bells, Chimes and Glockenspiels 2: Al Melgard at the Chicago Stadium Organ 3: Eddie Osborn Bladwin Organ and Bongos I have no interest in these so they are free, free, free. May take a few days to find an apporpriate box and get them to the post office.
  25. Bass, Balance Treble. Those magic knobs on the amp/receiver. Much more than an illusion of control but a defacto means to change what you're hearing. A lot of us still use gear withhout remotes, but even with digital equipment we still have the same three "knobs". Sure I fiddle around with them from time to time but basically they are set straight up, "flat" I guess it's called. Question is, is this optimum, or merely a starting point to musical nirvana. I mean, didn't the designers of these amps have that in mind when they "tuned" these things or was it simply designed to place their "zero" settings so it appealed to the greatest number of average joe buyers. I guess I'm asking how to you guys deal with these three knobs?
