For digital music 2 channel listening, I am currently running a Oppo 93 as a front end and out putting via HDMI to my receiver... how is everyone else transferring the signals to there amplifiers? Optical, HDMI, or unbalanced RCA? the reason I am asking is because I tried the analog RCA solution last night hoping the DAC in the Oppo would improve sound but it was not very close to HDMI in terms of the lower register delivery... mids and highs were very similar, perhaps slightly less clear with RCA but not as granulated as HDMI. is this as good as it's going to get or are there other "set up" type solutions that might get me another few percentage points closer to ideal? I've never tried the optical output on my Oppo and frankly I am not really sure which output of the three uses the Oppo DACs and which bypasses the on board DAC.

I don't think the lack of bass in 2 channel listening is amplifier related. that a fairly good sized space, that 450 might need.

yes... wireless amps/speakers exist. they are quite expensive for quality units.

Flat rate usps is your best bet... DO NOT admit to any liquids or they will NOT take the boxes. You can use the self serve service or home postage service and drop the boxes off at the post office and save a few cents per shippment

I am looking to do some rolling here... I need to find a good set of 6922/E88CC that will deliver warmth and more important clarity. I don't mind paying, but since I am fairly new to this, what are some highly regarded 6922/E88CC tubes... preferably units are good from a value perspective. I don't mind paying for telefunkens if they actually deliver... and are real NOS.

I guess I should have qualified my question... is it really ALL THAT distinguishable? Smoother... what exactly does that mean during critical listening? Smoother, less harsh or more rolled off... or smoother not as crisp? just trying to get a real handle over here on why there are not only two versions, but why some one would choose one over the other if they are similarly priced. also, are there other drop in versions that might be MORE EXPENSIVE, but yield a greater difference?
