  1. Anyone try one of these? https://www.hifiberry.com/dacplus
  2. It got me at Little Rock, Lexington, and Louisville. The only reason it picked the two cities in Kentucky was because of how I answered "what do you call a liquor store with a drive-thru". Since I have lived in dry counties in Arkansas, I had no term for it. BESIDES, the regional accents in Arkansas are vastly different. I was raised in the Ozark foothills along the Arkansas River Valley. When I moved to Hope in '76, my accent was definitely not Southwest Arkansas. Similar, but different. The most noticeable 40 years ago was in the pronunciation of words containing the letter "O". Most of these regional differences have disappeared, but not completely gone. The accents in the hills of SE Kentucky are almost indistinguishable from the Ozarks. Very, very similar.
  3. Otari is still making decks, but man are they expensive!
  4. Alexander, Arkansas. No affiliation. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10206612525213295&set=pcb.10206612543853761&type=1&theater
  5. I have an Otari 5050, Teac 3340, and another Teac in storage. Hundreds of tapes. With about 10,000 LP's and 300-400 tapes, I am going to have to get a larger music room!!!
  6. Just heard that authorities are worried Lake Conroe (north of Houston) dam may fail. Hope everyone in the area is going to be safe! Raining extremely hard here in Northwest Arkansas.
  7. My son and daughter-in-law are at Rocklahoma. Just read they evacuated the area due to storms. Haven't heard from them yet.
  8. Predicting 8" over the weekend for NWA. We have been under a flood warning for a couple of weeks it seems like. Been extended to Tuesday as of now.
  9. I remember the Dixie Mafia being very strong in Texarkana. Prostitution and diamond trade. Lots of other stuff I don't like discussing on a public forum. The place has really changed over the years!
  10. Being a native Arkansawyer, I grew up with oligarchy. Moving from the Ozarks to SW Arkansas was a definite culture change. I was so extremely happy when I found out that there were kindred souls in Hope. At our age, it is very enlightening to see all the twists and turns our lives' past have taken.
  11. I lived in Hope from 1976-81, was intimately familiar with plant and personnel (especially the wayward ones!), also part of the establishment. I got to hear both sides of comments made about the counter culture in Hope. It was one of the best times of my life. I don't understand why you are bitching about what I said, Andy. I also lived in Prescott for a few years. None of what I said was conjecture. That said, I also know of all the seedier sides of what was going on at Hope that had absolutely nothing to do with Klipsch. Hope was run by just a few families in Hope which also had nothing to do with Klipsch. A few of those names you may remember; Graves, Foster, McClarty, etc. I don't think I said anything about race, either (BTW, SW Arkansas is the most racist place I have lived. I was shocked when I first moved there.) I knew when Feds were around and why. They were around a lot in "79-'80. I will never say anything negative about the Klipsch plant in Hope as it helped form who I am. I was also one of those "long-hairs" that was brought into Hope, so I don't know why you interpret my comments as negative. The counter culture was alive and well in Hope and was due in part to the mecca that has become the Hope factory. When there is a counter culture, there is a lot of complaining from folks that don't want it being there. That is just a fact of life.
  12. I don't know about the 78's sounding better, but I haven't finished my 78 only system. So, maybe there's hope for me yet! And, I have been listening to my 802D instead of the Klipschorns lately.
  13. Beta Sound should have vented dust caps, however.
  14. Those look like Beta Sound M-100. If so, they are the first Cornscala. One way to be sure would be to pull the midrange horn and see what brand is cast into the horn.
  15. Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense. A definite must own!
  16. PWK was much more conservative than most everyone in the office at the time I speak of. I could go on about specifics, but that might just involve names and dates. As too the locals in Hope, they would have considered him a liberal and also a radical for bringing in all those hippies to work for him. All things are relative.
  17. I went to several functions at Win's house on Petite Jean during my teens. First time I heard La Scala was on his campaign trail.
  18. I have never contacted him due to the high prices he lists on CL so I have no experience in dealing with him. I would always cover my costs, too! If I were still looking for speakers, I would just walk into Speakerworks in Tulsa and get the same items for about half of what he is asking. Klipsch products are always higher in some areas than others. There were a lot of items he lists that I have wanted to look at, but, again the listing prices seemed outa this world to me so I never did. I don't run across fantastic deals very often, but I don't pay more that what I think I can get back (or close to it). It is a market like any other and everyone is free to sell or buy at the prices they seem fair.
  19. Once upon a time, I lived in an old house that had been made into duplexes. When I was home, the neighbor just turned everything off and listened to what I was playing. I had a pair of Heresy and a pair of La Scala played at the same time and driven by a Marantz 2226b. My system drowned out anything they were listening to. At least they were cool about it!
  20. Huckabee may have met him. His aunt lived in Hope until her death. PWK was conservative politically AFAIK. He helped the local churches, also. In the 70's, all the churches has Klipsch speakers!
  21. Whoever the guy in Maumelle is, he finds a lot of Klipsch speakers then prices them way above market. I assume he sells them, but they are on the market for a while. The highest I have ever paid for Cornwalls is $375 (I also bought a pair of JBL 4333a for $1250 when i bought those Cornwalls), but they don't come up that cheap very often. The Maumelle seller appears to be a flipper making a LOT of money if he gets anywhere near his asking price. I have noticed the same seller's ads for a couple of years or so. I don't even read his ads anymore. I know several flippers in NWA and have done some business with them back and forth. They are much more reasonable in pricing and trading. My speaker swapping days are over, but equipment is still on the radar! Speakers are something I really, really need to thin out!
  22. Check out Three Rivers Brewery in Farmington. Good food and beer!
  23. We got 8" this week with rain forecast for the next two days again.
  24. When I was traveling on the road everyday, I eat this for dinner: 4 eggs whole, two tablespoons of flax seed, milk all in a blender. Along with fruit and yogurt, that is all I had fr dinner. Exercise and that kept the weight off. Now, I am having a problem due to medication myself. The drugs are the problem. I use to take methotrexate regularly and I could eat anything I wanted. Since going off it, I have added 25 lbs. I can't lift like I did a few years ago. Now, I have to be very careful about diet just due to activity vs. caloric intake. Good luck!
  25. If you are interested in vinyl, the Salvation Army in San Angelo has tens of thousands of LP's. At least they did when I regularly came through about every six weeks up until about 3 years ago.
