  1. RRRush you are just the type of guy I was hoping would reply. And thanks to the others for the input as well. The overall room measurements are 13'wide x 26'long x 12'ceilings. The TV will be going on the 13'wide portion of the room and the "sweet spot" on the couch will be about 12-14' from the TV screen. I think the room will be able to handle any size TV (plus the RF7s on the side), just affording the larger sets will be the issue at hand. I have been also perusing other forums to see what service issues lurk with each brand. The Hitatchis seem to have a 'flickering-screen' bug while the Mitsu's don't seem to have many problems, but when they do it is near impossible to get serviced. Which brings about another point of purchasing the dreaded store warranties?! For a big ticket item such as this I am starting to favor the warranty. I am using Dishnetwork now and I can foresee using a HD reciever in the near future. My coworker just got HD cable and I am floored by how it looks. The Mitsu I saw in BB looked like crap, but I know this was due to the in store conditions... My dad has a 48" Mitsu and looks OUTSTANDING. The CC Hit.Ultravision sitting in the store looked quite tasty I must say. I still need to hit the Sam's and Costco just to see what is out there, but I am doubtful I will find something that looks quite as good for the price range. Hell, the MegaLo-Mart up the street now has 42" plasmas for $2200. I have seen a few 65" TVs in the Sunday circulars for cheap (about $1400)... my guess is that these would be fantastic to watch if I had glaucoma or cataracts. I'm going to hit the stores hard this weekend to see what is really out there and report back again.
  2. This is a topic distinctly not Klipsch, however, since y'all were smart enough to buy Klipsch I hold your opinions in the highest regard... Therefore I think this applies here. ...and I wish to hear some opinions! I finally ended up with the RF7s, RC7, and a pair of RS7s... the sub will come (much) later. The sound deparment is taken care of for now. Right now I need a TV. I am looking for rearprojectionHD bang for your buck under $2k. I have been shopping at the local Best/Circuit/whatnots have found: Hitatchi Ultavision 51" ($2000) Mitsubishi WS55315 55" ($1800) I am really going for picture quality first and then size second, but most importantly I am really to lazy to sit in the store adjusting settings to match my living room and would rather confer with the wisest group of audiophiles in the nation.
  3. I think the question should be can YOU handle it! I have about 350sq ft. (and 12' ceilings)with no sub and things are quite peachy.
  4. Yes quite a fascinating topic... However, My parents were both music-oriented and I appreciated most everything that they listened to. My mother plays violin and my dad can play just about any stringed instrument that I can think of (but played mostly Gospel Bluegrass). I was allowed to form my own musical tastes and I can honestly say that I have never disliked something and then now like it. The jazz and classical I heard as a kid I now appreciate MORE but the stuff I didn't like then I absolutely abhor now. Two songs come to mind -- Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" and Melloncamp's "Jack&Diane" ballad. In third grade our teacher let us bring music to listen to and I heard those two songs and said to myself "that sucks"... I remember bringing Pink Floyd's "The Wall." On the flip side... my parents cannot STAND some of the things I enjoy. Electronica, Death Metal, Bebop, and occasionally rap. (New Beastie Boys album out tomorrow!)
  5. The obvious answer is... Spinal Tap I could never pick a "greatest of all-time" anything be it: band, composer, guitarist, artist, singer, drummer, songwriter, whatever. I like to deal in Top 10 (in no particular order)lists.
  6. I've often wondered if I could trade just "half" of my soul to the devil if I could just play "half" as good as Robert Johnson. Claud Johnson somewhat proves my theory of people who inherit/win/etc. money: whatever kind of person you are before you have the money will determine the type of person you will become after the money... but about 10fold. Most lottery winners were miserable morons before the money -- henceforth the continued, but greater, misery after. Claud J. seems to have found what it takes to be happy in life. I am glad to see the family inherit the 'estate'... similar to Jimi's estate going to his dad, Al Hendrix. Long overdue. "I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees"
  7. I have been using the Pioneer DV-563A for a few months now (and listening to DSOTM SACD often!). It sounds incredible in 5 channel but I don't know how it would sound in 2.0ch. The disc was certainly meant for multichannel. You can find the player on ebay -- "Buy it now" for $111. My nondiscriminatory ears cannot tell 'much' difference between the $100 and $1000 player so I choose to spend the $$ elsewhere. Now between $100/$1000 speakers... thats another story.
  8. If your garage ever becomes unsuitable you can always store them in mine! I just cleaned it out too...

Selma Hayak is HOT. I don't want to ruin that image by watchin Freda.
  10. Holy horns batman If I could have held out one more month for speakers... Nahh!
  11. This "bread" sounds as dangerous as "dihydrogen monoxide." For those folks on a diet: one of the laws of thermodynamics reminds us of the conservation of energy -- total energy of the system plus the surroundings is constant. If your intake of calories = the output of calories then you will neither gain nor lose weight. If you want to gain weight or lose weight then one has to change one side of the equation. To lose weight one must lower the intake of calories or exercise (both is best). But if everybody ate right and excersised I would be out of a job QUICK! So keep at it people!! >GET INTO THE ZONE >Barry Sears, any of his 'Zone' books will do. Figure out your optimum weight for your >height and frame size. Determine your activity level. Eat for this weight. ...I am more partial to Britney Spears' "In the Zone" When I get home I am going to practice thermodynamics by lugging in my new reciever in, dragging the rest of the new speakers out of the garage, hooking everything up then balancing the equation by replacing the calories lost with liquid "bread" of the homebrew variety!! Finally! Finally! Harman Kardon AVR8000 Klipsch Reference (RF7s, RC7s, RS7s)
  12. The dings and dents in the caps look exactly like the loaners/floor models I have from a local store. I'm certain my ears are not quite as discriminating as some, but they sound perfectly fine to me. I have been quite thourough too, in my "testing" before I have to give them back, riding them like a rented mule with just about every kind of whack music and DVD in my repitoire at stupid volumes. Used speakers will also be "broken in" which can be good or bad. Just make sure you get a listen first.
  13. Awesome ride! I am a big fan of the "large V-8, rear wheel drive, 4 door sporty cruiser" but it has been a while since one has been on the market -- with the last one being the '96-98 Impala SS. You might could fit some Klipschorns in the back of that wagon.
  14. This seems like deja vu ALL OVER AGAIN
  15. Look on ebay for that price, and you may have to shop for a few weeks to get the killer deal. Sometimes they will have a "one day only" special that you can score some schwag.
  16. If the 7200 is the way to go you could probably find a refurb unit factory direct form HK for less than $700 with a two year warranty. My avr 8000 has "issues" at the moment but the folks at Harman have been completely wonderful and are going to replace it -- I would still buy a unit from them in a heartbeat.
  17. If we keep talking about about this I may have to crawl up in my attic and drag out the old cassetes!
  18. Don't forget the sideburns. I place Danzigs between the "Hawaiian Movies Elvis" and the "Fat Vegas Elvis" styled sideburns.
  19. I've often thought about building my own speakers... Something a little more "audiophile" than Fran's, of course. I have seen clone klipsch speakers posted on these boards which spurred me to do a patent search on the old klipschorn design. (the expired ones) Nothing too complicated -- put some decent $$ in the parts and I could use my dad's shop for construction and maybe I could save a couple grand?! Now if I could just make the day 36 hours long.
  20. Evil Elvis Rocks! Its been a few years (closer to 15!) since I have sat down to listen to him. I started listening to harder stuff when I went to kollege.
  21. I recently "backed up" my CD collection to a hard drive for this very reason. I would say about 3% of my discs have the same problem the article is referring to -- it looks as if I hit them with 00 buckshot. Pisses me off. As soon as I get a DVD burner I will be creating many a back up for them too.
  22. 16 or 17 My best friend in high school got a pair of Chorusesses. It took about 4 nanoseconds to realize that my ears had been missing SO much. Got to keep listening to them in college too! It took me 15 years before I finally got my Klipsch fix! I should have the rs7s next Tuesday to complete the HT.
  23. I went to the local mall music store yesterday to find some SACD/DVDa titles. The girl behind the counter with the bolts in her face and tongue asked if she could help me and I told her what I wanted. I got quite an empty stare -- then she pointed me to the recordable -R media section. So much for the 'awareness' the article refers to.I finally found a DVDa section but no SACD. I went to a few other "big" stores around town and saw no records, 99.999999999% CD, and the occasional 5.1 media. I doubt I will be shopping out in the real world any time soon.
  24. Nice piece of engineering. I'll bet RunDMC or the Beastie Boys would love to scratch some tracks out on that.
