  1. I wonder if those CW's went with those mac MC30s on ebay. Both out of Vestavia Hills.
  2. I'm wit'choo Duke. Got a ton of wax been sittin out in the garage for years. Before that it was sitting in a spare bedroom for years... before that it sat in storage -- for years. I just don't have the desire to listen to it: Reasons are numerous. Probably never had the right equipment, but nevertheless, not going to get it now.
  3. {You guys are cute. Is this "Roll Tide" or "War Eagle"?} Go BLAZERS!!! Man this thread got jacked.
  4. Down in Calera off exit 231. I work in Trussville, which is quite a haul at times. Lets do some Klipsch!! Stop by for a little or long while! What kind of rig are you running? Aren't you the one who ended up with the Tiger Khorns last year?
  5. I'd have to agree with today's TV images being unrealistic (the gals, the story, etc). Bruckheimer certainly has a formula for ratings, though. I can't STAND reality/celebrity/unscripted TV -- it's all bunk to me. Survivor was interesting on the first go around. Jackass was hilarious to me simply because when I was in college you could have substituted any one of those guys for my roomates (or myself for that matter). The fact that in a given hour of a show has only 40 actual minutes of the show makes me love my PVR all the more. The Sopranos gives me 58 minutes out of 60 with riveting acting, story, realism, etc. Simply the best show on TV. I probably enjoy Scrubs and House more than most as a medical professional, but I think they are a little more original than most. Curb Your Enthusiasm is a show I have been recently turned onto. Just too much eye candy and crap on the boob tube now.
  6. If you are still bidding on those amps I drive by Vestavia Hills daily too. I could be your backup-backup. Good luck.
  7. So many adjectives to describe bass! Most are beyond me. When I was setting my system up I think I was shooting for what sounded the most "natural" to my ears. I know what a piano, upright double bass, kickdrum, bassoon, bass guitar, etc all sound like in person... It took a lot of twiddling of the knobs and such but I finally I found a setting that was very pleasing -- I can close my eyes and I am "there" with fantastic soundstage and sound reproduction, and especially visceral in the low end. What I find interesting about the article is the critical adjustments of phase alignment. For my room, this was ironically non-critical and I attribute that to the dimensions, and placement of speakers and furniture.
  8. I'm withya on that! Its hard to bet against a quarterback who has never lost a playoff game!!
  9. If you house was burning and you could only save one before the aliens took you away to another world, what would be your lost on another planet, can only have ONE LedZep LP? I thought about it last night and came to the conclusion that I would just rather be dead than have to pick one. This morning, though, after more thought, HotH is my final answer. That album makes me the happiest, I suppose.
  10. I was reading over in the technical forum about compression and the link about Rush's progressive use of it. http://www.prorec.com/prorec/articles.nsf/files/8A133F52D0FD71AB86256C2E005DAF1C Could R30 be the worst offender yet?!
  11. Standard def (especially sports and other fast moving scenes) is usually going to look like poo on a large display. Football games for me are almost painful to watch. OTOH, upgrading to HiDef you will reap the benefits of your monitor's potential. Football games for me in HiDef are out of this world -- a pleasure to behold. Some of my HiDef channels still show some bandwidth/compression artifacts (macroblocking, pixelation) but very infreqently and not on all channels.
  12. The 1st DVD was filmed in HD, I didn't mean to imply that the DVD was... sorry 'bout dat. I have several DVDs in my collection (which ones escape me at this god awful hour) that were shot in HD but, of course, watch in 480p.
  13. VH1's show "Hangin With" featured Rush promo'ing their R30 last weekend. They say the first DVD was shot in HiDef. I think Lifeson was commenting on how they took their time on the audio setup to make it right. I also saw Primus/Rush 10+ years ago and can say without hesitation that it was probably the best sounding show I have ever been too. I can wait to pick this DVD up. Or maybe Santa will know I have been good this year.[]
  14. Those poor souls will never know how good bacon tastes either.
  15. Sort of how I felt when I narrowed it down to Klipsch, Paradig'em, and DefTech. After listening to very farmiliar music, the decision was easy. The soundstage on my 7s are enormous, to boot.

    Cheap DVDs

Chronicles of Narnia and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the wererabbit can be had for $6.80 each. Chronicles just came out last weekend, Wallace, just two months ago... I'm sure it's legit, though. []
  17. Hey Colter, How far are your speakers from your ears? Would one expect some sort of inverse square law to come in to effect with speaker and listener distance/placement? I just did some rearranging of the furniture last night (to make my living room actaully usable) and when I was done I recal'ed all of the levels. I moved the front three closer to my "spot", put the side surrounds directly beside me, and narrowed the distance between the two rear surrounds. Immediately I found that imaging was greater (much less speaker locatability). I would close my eyes and the speakers "disappeared" leaving only music. The three fronts are all 12', the sides are 5' and 7', and the rears are both 10' away from my "spot." I've laser-pointed the front thee speakers to pass just to the left, top, and right of my head from the L,C, and R speakers respectively... the rest are 'fixed' in their locations. I wonder how much improvement I would gain from mm adjustments (as them 7s are heavy and spiked!) I also enjoy tilting my head back (so that my head points up about 45deg) onto a little buckwheat husk pillow and closing my eyes for some crazy imaging.
  18. I was actually suprised at the PG rating. Gene Wilder's character was certainly odd (as dictated by the book character Wonka) , but Depp's performance brought flashbacks of "Fear an Loahting"... he was just waaaaay out there at times.

    "Traffic"

The acting was sooo good in this one! The plot was fantastic in terms of intensity and realism. Similarly with "American History X," no matter how bad things got I couldn't take my eyes off of it for a nanosecond!
  20. I hate that I even remember this, but in the ultra-selling book "Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus" the author makes explicit usage of the Man's "cave" in which the man enters and wishes to be left alone. Actually, I'm beginning to believe most women are from hell.[] Back to my cave...
  21. My thoughts on PF.... I grew up listening (to my parents who were playing) to PF. Mostly DSOTM... Through Middle and High school I think I ended up with dang near all of their albums and listening to them all of the time. Meddle and Animals always did the trick for me. Probably due to the fact that they never got airplay. Not to say that the rest of the albums are junk, quite the opposite is true. Its just that every time I'm around an FM radio there is a good chance I'll hear something from DSOTM, Wish you..., or the Wall. I think DSOTM is one of the greatest albums of all time. Too bad I can't hardly stand to listen to it anymore.
