  1. Ok, how come I have never noticed how much I like these guys before? I am listening to Life Before Insanity right now and this is som good stuff!! [Y]
  2. It figures!! I make it back to the forum Just in time to Miss a great get--together!!! []
  3. You were gone? [] Wait, I was gone too!!! Welcome back! Did a horse roll up on you too? []
  4. One of my favorites has left us! [:'(] http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060119/en_nm/pickett_dc
  5. I wonder if he would consider a trade for my first born? []
  6. I think you also have to consider the "Mine is bigger than Yours" factor. I have two aquaintances (They work with my wife and I have been to social functions at their homes) who both have 6 figures $$$ in their systems and oneupsmanship is a Big part of it at that level! One even admitted to me that after $15 to $20K he stopped hearing any Real difference! He is just obsessed with the "latest and greatest" available!
  7. I think they were the best of the so called Grunge bands, but I also think they started losing the edge that made them better on their later works. By "Jar Of Flies" (1994) and "Alice in Chains" (1995) I had pretty much lost interest in them, although I do like the Unplugged album from 1996. Dirt was my favorite of their CD's.
  8. Bob Lutz pretty much said (and I am paraphrasing here) "this is the car we Might build, in a few years, if we don't find something else to spend our money on, and if the economy doesn't get worse, maybe!" I don't expect it to happen anytime soon. As a huge F-Body fan, I would love to see at Least a Camaro comeback as it is pretty much set in stone that the Firebird is gone for good, but GM is suffering too much right now to put money into something that is not gonna either coast a fortune or sell Millions of units. I would expect to see the new Dodge Challenger Long before a new Camaro.
  9. Exactly. I would imagine that almost everyone who has plunked down $13K for one of these thought it was worth it. I will admit that I would have to be seriously rich to pay that kind of cash for a cartridge, though!
  10. My wife once described my speakers to some one as "the name starts with a K and has a bunch of consonants at the end!" []
  11. What a fun drive to work! Icy roads in Texas are a very bad thing. They bring out two kinds of drivers. The "so terrified they drive 10 mph even when the roads are still dry" types and the "proving their manhood by driving 80 when everyone else is driving 40" types! Unfortunately, they tend to bump into each other alot!!! I hate winter storms! That is part of the reason I put up with the rediculously hot summers!!!
  12. Looks like ebay pulled this auction just a few hours before it ended. Surprise, surprise!!
  13. Note to self: Go back and read Gil's post when it is Not 1:15 am!! I recently had a chance to visit a purpose built listening room that was pretty much exactly as Dr. Who described above. The only difference was that the back wall wasn't a straight wall, it was 3 sided, the two ends angled away from the front wall to the door in the middle, which was parallel to the front wall. the Ceiling got higher from front to back. There was also minimal treatment on the walls and ceiling. The effect was breathtaking! I got the opportunity to take my Heresies over and try them in this room and they sounded amazing! I will probably never be able to afford to build something like that, but if I ever can, that is exactly how I will do it!
  14. It is generally known as a "Nuclear Proxy" bid. Someone watches the bidding until they feel confident that the final price will be in their range then they put in a Huge maximum bid (like $10K). Then they are almost sure to win. Where the danger comes in is if one of two things happen, one of which appears to have happened here. First is the "Nuclear Snipe." Someone waits till the last second and then drops a huge final bid, much like the nuclear proxy. Second, someone makes a decimal point mistake and drives the bid Way up like what seems to have happened on this auction. It is pretty common on higher priced items. It usually works, but as this auction showed, it is a dangerous way to bid! You think wpsteele wet himself when that final bid showed up? [] I bet this broke him from using the nuclear proxy bid!
  15. Here is what happens when a misplaced decimal point slams into a "Nuclear Proxy" bid!! [] http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Marantz-Model-4230-Stereo-2-Quad-4-Receiver_W0QQitemZ5832953330QQcategoryZ50591QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  16. A good friend of mine who is a custom cabinet maker (and a Very Good One!) once told me that the hardest thing for him to develope when he first started out was a good sense of when on time out weighs perfect! I Love the carpet idea, too. Given my (Lack of) painting skills, that is the kind of ideas that come in handy for me!
  17. Actually they are suposedly in Minden, LA. Linden is in Texas. My typing got a bit ahead of my brain. [] I am around 3.5 hours drive from Minden, but it is only an hour and a half from my parents so I was going to go visit them and then drive down to check them out. I really didn't expect him to respond anyway. If he does it will be after it is to late for me to make it and then claim he missed my e-mail or something.
  18. That was an UGLY game! Texas could have dropped 100 points on CU if they had not pulled their starters! On one hand I would like to see Texas and USC in the Rose bowl with both being undefeated, on the other hand I just CAN'T pull for USC, EVER! Go UCLA!! [] The best news of the day? Navy is once again, wooping Army!!! []
  19. Until the guy sufficiently explains the fact that he is using someone elses pictures that he has altered, I have to believe that this is a scam. He won't even respond to my request to go check them out. I even offered to drive to Linden if that is really where they are.
  20. Hey, I am already In Dallas! You think he will let me come see them in person? []
  21. Has anyone here had any experience with the Bully-15 Driver? I recently heard a system that featured a DIY Subwoofer using one and it sounded great. I can't really make a lot of decisions based on what I heard because this guy had just spent $35K building a dedicated listening room and I am Sure that had a lot to do with the performance of his system! The Bully-15 is such an impressive Looking driver that it made me curious. Anyone tried it? http://www.bullysubs.com/products.html
  22. The one advantage to working 18 hr days for 6 days straight! I never even noticed it was down! [] That and the extra overtime money!! []
  23. You mean some people actually get Holidays Off? In my profession, where the lights, A/C, steam, water, etc. have to be available 24/7, we don't get days off based on Holidays! Heck, they don't even pay us extra to work them, they just give us an extra day off to take some other time when we are not too busy!
  24. I liked "Doom" and that, according to my wife, should tell you all you need to know about my ability to judge movies!
