  1. Do you mean real live ducks? Or the group called the "Ducs"? JJK
  2. Mike Lindsey: Amen. Ran an aftermarket L88 in 1967-68. #3 piston pin retainer broke and the pin moved out and into the side of the block reaking havoc and destruction. Pieces of forged piston and rings stuck in aluminum heads and intake manifold and oil pan and carbuerator. Rod bent, crank bent, #3 piston missing, valve guides fanned out like bananas, cam lobes wiped off, valves bent, pushrods bent. Very exciting. PS: in 1967 an L-88 short block cost $587.00, aluminum heads $250.00. JJK
  3. Try beans, apples and beer. WWWWHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSHHH. JJK
  4. How was the cam sprocket and chain broken? They should have lasted for about 120k miles. 77, 78 79's had bad cams which I believe was a "beat the hell out of GM" waranty. And they started painting the engines blue (77--), then black to mean that it was a GM engine made in a GM plant somewhere. Remember the Olsmobile's with Chevrolet engines? If you drove the car in the winter full time your calipers would last 8 years (even stainless) and the frame would rust through right at the front of the back wheel well and break in two but the fibrelgass body would actually hold the car together. Yeah, I used to restore Corvettes, every nut and bolt. And I had a 78 with four studded Mohawk snow tires and that baby could track and beat most anybody on a snow coverd road. I could be going 50 mph on an ice covered road, floor it, the rear would start to skid sideways then let off the gas and it would straighten out by itself. Never had anything that would track like it did in the snow until the frame broke. I can still take one apart and re-assemble it blindfolded. Even got into painting them. (wouldn't wish that on my enemies) JJK
  5. My Aunt had horses. She would always say they are a pain in the neck. They are also very stupid. When breeding she had to help aim the you know what or the breeding would not happen. You have to have a Vet on the payroll as they are there every day for some kind of tom foolery. If you don't love horses stay away from them. The old timers out west had a good name for horses---"Jugheads". JJK
  6. Having watched digital HDTV for 5 years now with a 177" super log periodic fixed antenna fades can be very annoying as the sound and picture blurp to nothing then return a few seconds later. Fades can be short or long in duration and with intermod can be "stacatto" driving you clean bannanas. They can occurr at relatively strong signal strengths depending on weather conditions, path conditions (trees, buildings, towers), transmitted power output, and receiver sensitivity. The signal strength meters in your TV's are heavily damped so you will not see the "quickies". Most of my local stations are pretty solid but some of the cheapies drive you nuts. The AVS forum had the official tv station radiation coverage graphs for my location which was very interesting. Sometimes "ducting" can reak havoc with some digital channels interferring with each other if you happen to be re-channelizing your tuner. This happened to me with some digital channels 200 miles away. The tuner did the typical"Three Stooges" act. I said to myself "Holy Toledo". (The offending digital stations were from the Toledo area). Confuscious say: "Get big antenna, good lead-in, or get Cable/Sat guy to install stuff". JJK
  7. Read in the paper this morning that Stanton has a new USB turntable for $435.00. JJK
  8. I didn't know you could install Forge on Linux. Some Sony folks might want to know how you do this. JJK
  9. My take on this is that "minty" is a huge distance away from "full mint quality", designed to make you think that $99.99 is a bargain compared to $100.00. The "grey" area of communication covers a lot of territory and puts more money in your pocket. JJK
  10. At the drag strip one day there was a green bug with a kind of small bulge by the back bumper. He had small slicks on the back, a number painted on the car, and everybody was laughing when he was staging up. He roars down the track at 13.4 seconds in the quarter at 98 mph. Everybody crapped their pants. Turns out he had a Porsche engine in it. And the beat goes on. JJK
  11. Are you running a Porsche 911 GT2? JJK
  12. I believe the HD-A3 is available on Newegg.com for $149.00 new. JJK
  13. Look at the fully enclosed 5 hp motor powering that big horn. Like Cole Younger says, "It's a wonderment". JJK
  14. Tip on VW Bug. Gap the plugs a bit less than .060". (maybe .045") There are some atmospheric conditions ((humidity) that will prevent the plugs from firing (maybe 2 days of the year) that will require someone with a big car to push you about 1/4 mile to get it started. Found this out with my uncle's VW bug. He hated it. I hated it because it was white. I hate white cars. JJK
  15. Maybe the "Windows" guy had something to do with the glow plugs. At least you don't have to wait when you shut the engine off. (Or power off?) JJK
  16. Then there is the "make someone else do something they don't want to do syndrome" creeping into the human infrastructure. JJK
  17. Geeeeezzz, now you tell me. I already refinished mine. Added a top and supports. JJK
  18. Tony: My Sharp LC 32GP1U has a specification of 6,220,000 dots, (1920 x 1080 x 3dots). This is taken out of the manual page 55. Not sure what they mean by "dots". Probably something else to confuse the public. JJK
  19. BEC: You should have drafted one of those big *** trucks. JJK
  20. I don't like small cars but that 750cc Smart car does look interesting. Looks like you have to "zip it on". JJK
  21. The 1080P has 6 million pixel screen compared to the 720P 2 million pixel screen. I would get the 1080P on any size starting at 40". Sometimes the cable quality will affect the "hanshake" between these units, HDMI 1.1 verses 1.3a. Some older Sony Bluray players are already obsolete and most of the new ones are backordered. The trick is to get the ones with the network feed so you can update the firmware which is often and plenty. Panasonic has a new Bluray player with a card slot input. LG is still selling the combo Bluray/HD-DVD. Denon also has two new models. JJK
  22. Remember that Exxon had a profit of 41 billion and took in well over 100 billion. The profit goes to investors (stock buybacks) and don't forget the 500 million for the CEO. If I got into it any further I would throw up. JJK
  23. Rollie used to make a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 projector with zoom lens/500 watt bulb with heat sink that took straight 35mm and 2 1/4 trays. JJK
  24. I believe this was discussed before somewhere but I can't remember but I guess it worked OK but the turntable isn't that great. I would check maybe the Newegg.com reviews by users. JJK
