I guess I don't have a life since I knew which speakers they were as soon as the first post appeared. See: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=56596&sessionID={C610FACF-B59D-4C55-B1C4-FCA1F78C5C1D} He said he'd post them on audiogon if there was no interest in them from the forum first...

  4. Since mine are far from mint, I'd pay C$1600 for a local pair of mint La Scala's. Unfortunately for me, I'm likely the only LS owner within a 300 km radius!
  5. What do you mean by "reference volume"....I assume it must be pretty loud? If you get a HT setup/calibration DVD such as AVIA, at some point it feeds a sound and you adjust the volume on your amp to read a certain level on an SLP meter. That will be the "reference" level as played in theaters (you may actually adjust 10 or 20 dB under reference and have to add that amount to your volume setting to determine the true reference level). They also state that this is pretty loud, and you may prefer it up to 10 dB lower. People with very inefficient speakers have trouble reaching reference level. My La Scalas reach it at -17 dB on my 55W per channel h/k avr-325. I typically watch movies a bit below reference level at about -23dB to -25dB.
  6. I went from stereo to multi-channel this year. Bought a h/k avr-325 receiver in february, a Hsu STF-3 sub in august, getting a single used Heresy to use as center now. Good stuff! Next year? Crossover upgrades on the La scala's...
  7. The odds are that one will find themselves sitting in front of a computer trying to explain basic economics to the short sighted. So I guess I should feel targetted by that. But the fact remains that my local brick store is not providing an adequate service to justify hundreds of dollars from me. I can order a product as well as they can; They don't stock the high end Klipsch anyway, so I can't audition it before I buy. I have zero incentive to give them 50% more than I can find elsewhere. Part of that might be being in Canada, with artifically elevated prices compared to local brands such as Paradigm. I'm sorry, but I'd rather buy direct (if that were possible) and give Klipsch my hard-earned money. They actually make the things, remember? My local store doesn't do much to deserve as much money as Klipsch gets.

But I'm told the markup on amplifiers is much lower. Anyone who complains about margins like this has NEVER been in the retail business. You're right. I'm in that 99.99% of the population. Without gross margins above 30-40% and without MASSIVE volume, no "independent" dealer could POSSIBLY survive. Pay a little extra, support the mom and pop, pay your LOCAL and STATE taxes and we will all be better off in the long run. Otherwise you'll be buying Chinese-made Klipsch at Wal*Mart in a few years and all those nice folks in Indy and Hope will be WORKING at Wal*Mart or flipping burgers! Well, I can't get Heritage within 500 km of me, possibly more. The local Klipsch dealer is not a Mom & Pop store; it's a chain (www.dumoulin.ca). They are expensive, their display is crappy, the salespeople know little about the product and don't know of the existence of the Heritage line. Now tell me again why i should buy there? I have yet to get a good demo of the Reference line! Maybe someday someone from the forum will provide one to me over a beer. That would be nice. A lot nicer than my local store...
  9. Hilarious! I wish posted questions would show up before the seller replied. He can just ignore questions he doesn't like!
  10. Sent you email about a KV-4 in Canada...

With a little assistance from our woodworking aficianado Tom Mobley (check Belle Klipsch thread), some veneering advice, custom crossovers from Dean or BEC, we should be able to help each other with the construction of our very own homemade Vertical Corns. It might also be possible to modify the dimensions slightly to allow the cabinet more placement flexibility. Maybe even a split cab, with woofer as box to the side or under monitor and horns on top??? I like this idea, but do you think buying all the parts from scratch would be affordable (compared to say getting them from a pair of used non-vertical Corns)? I'm low on funds just now, but over time you never know...
  12. And here I thought you were selling the old ones! I had mis-read that!
  13. Bump. We can't lose this thread now, can we?
  14. I like the sub in the corner. Good job!
  15. Thanks guys! Heresy it is. Should have one in a couple of weeks, then I'll see if I want to mod it or not.
  16. Congrats! I've been loving La Scala's for over 20 years now. They are great with HT as well.

On honoring warranties, it seems that your company will honor warranty issues independently? Klipsch has an explicit warning (on this very website) against purchasing Klipsch products fron non authorized dealers. I'd think you'd want to clear up this question as soon as possible. ---------------- Everone is assuming he is affiliated with that web site (and posted the link for free publicity). But he said that he is a legit Klipsch dealer who can't compete with the on-line web. As a potential customer, I do find it a bit disconcerting that speakers have a mark-up of 66% to 100%! Luckily for me, I'm more interested in the vintage Heritage stuff and I'm not likely to ever buy that new. I know of no Heritage dealers in Quebec anyway.

  19. Found someone setup using a KV-4 a center with La Scala's here: http://www.hometheaterdiscussion.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=532 But there are no comments about the match/mismatch. I keep wondering how the KV-4 or academy can have wide horizontal dispersion with the horn aligned the way it is. The long axis is vertical! Should I stick with a single Heresy and stop looking back?
  20. Looks fantastic! Good luck selling it (should be easy!)
  21. By the time I decide, I'm sure the KV-4 will be sold.... but what do you guys think? KV-4 or single Heresy as center for La Scala? I have heard neither of them. I'm thinking the Heresy's 3-way is a better sonic/timber match. Am I right? Or does the inherent goodness of a true horizontal center (with wider dispersion?) better? Thanks!
  22. Actually, I'm in canada too, making it cheaper (no brokerage). I can't find a pcture of it; where can I find one? What does it look like? It's pretty cheap... I'm in the process of getting a very cheap single Heresy (about C$180 shipped) that has been painted black. The Heresy is a 3-way Heritage and I'm thinking it might be a better match to La Scala's... What do you think? Single Heresy (C$180) or KV-4 (C$400 shipped)?
  23. My Hsu manual even says to put a stow carpet underneath when using on a hardwood floor. Note that I haven't even tried this; directly on the floor sounded fantastic to me.
  24. I don't suppose it would sound better than a single Heresy between a pair of La Scala's, would it? I have to admit, that's a good deal! I wish we were next summer, when my audio budget will be in better shape...
  25. On 11/19/2004 2:19:01 PM Colin wrote: A truly powerful amplifier has twice as much power into 4-ohms as it does into an 8-ohm load. A super amplifier, like the Pass x250 (EnjoyTheMusic.com review on classic Klipsch corner Khorns, see archives) has even more power: twice as much yet again into 2-ohms! On the www.quebecaudio.com forum a few days ago, someone was bragging that he was going to buy a CREEK A50I integrated amp and posted a picture and specs, which included: Power output (both channels) 50W into 8 Ohms - Power output (one channel) 60W into 4 Ohms - Max current > 18 amps - I posted that it wasn't encouraging that such an expensive amplifier has poor lower impedance specs; it can't drive nearly double wattage into 4 ohms as it does into 8 ohms (into a single channel at that!), and yields only 18 amp of current. My much much cheaper h/k avr-325 pumps out 35 amps. I was shot down by snob audiophiles that say there's more to an amp than specs and so forth. Perhaps, but I think it should at least begin with good specs (otherwise why even post them?). A cheap amp that doesn't sound very good might also have managed to get good specs, but I think a amp without them probably isn't very good to begin with.
