  1. Mid-range glare! WOW nice audiophile terms I like and love to use! I have the Klipsch RB-5's and I do not have any mid-range "glare". I use Monster M2.4B speaker cables and a Celeste 4150SE to drive the RB-5's. The my room had absorbers placed on the side walls and the back wall. The celling has a couple of sound absorbing panels too.The RB-5's are quite clean in the midrange, not like Dynaudio Contour 1.1's(double the price)but very clean. No glare to report here. Try experimenting with non silver cables and try another amp just for fun.The room may contribute also. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  2. Sony VS Denon Interesting,I take the Sony ES DVD against any Denon DVD.Its a better value. But if you want a real High-End DVD payer(and much more)then I can recomend the real superhero of DVD payers the Pioneer DV-AX10.This will dent the bank account for sure. The costruction quality, components quality and above all the SOUND AND IMAGE quality are class leading. The true reference standard DVD player and great as an audio CD player. About 5 grand! 3. Its a educated guess here Klipsch I am sure improved the crossovers and this should improve the overall sound.Less harsh(for those who complained about harshness). The cabinets should also be in the two real wood finishes, not only the plasti wood finish.A very welcome upgrade. And you can brag to Bo$e owners your speakers have Monster Cable wiring! And tell them the mid-bass drivers are real copper!(better VC cooling)LOL TheEAR(s) Now theears
  4. As I can see your first problem is solved.Let me tell you to stay in a galaxy far far away from Bo$e. Klipsch makes speakers so superior to Bo$e it hurts if you ever compared a Acou$tic Me$$ system with say a set consisting of two pairs of SB-2's,SC-1 center and KSW12 sub. Bo$e is taboo here,as all Klipsch owners know,Acou$tic Me$$ is all about marketing and more marketing.Sound what sound? Is colored as a rainbow. Just a warning, its for your own good. 5. I say the SB-2's are great!I just unpacked a pair, the sound is good out of the box.And I had Dynaudio Contour 1.1's on the stands before! This has to say someting. The SB-1 is not so great, the tweeter is of much lower quality. The SB-2 uses a good quality tweeter and the bass impact will surprise you. I tried the SB-2 with a Denon 3801 and it sounded bass deprived and a bit harsh. Then I used the Celeste 4070 as the ...lol ...amp and guess what, its another speakers! Now the bass has real punch and the harshness is GONE!Great sounding speaker and very inexpensive. I say the SB-2's are real bargains!GET THEM,even new they cost peanuts. And sound great! The SB-2's will serve with the KSW12 and 15 on my computer. Not bad at all. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  6. Great cheap amd at $200!? WTF Damn,I mean come on $200! Ok I will try to help, take a serious look at eBay or in audio shops around where you live.Second hand is the ONLY way to get quality sound at this price.Serious All the little Onkyo,Denon,Sony,Yamaha and Pioneer amps and integrateds are sub par.None has the bass grip or smoothness to match well with Klipsch speakers. Unless you like edgy sound with "bass" (read upper bass thump). The RB-5's deserve much more then pee-wee harsh amps. I have a pair so I know, its not a "let me guess" game. The RB-5's sound like a tonn of bricks with beer amps like the mass market jokes. When you have a good amp the RB-5 is a superb speaker and will please just about anybody. Again take a look on Ebay or visit the local stereo shops. You can spend a few dollars and end up with good sound, just spend them with care. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  7. How may is too much? As long as you have a space to put thema nd amp(s)to drive them! I just started with Klipsch speakers and this is what I have as of today... Klipsch Quintets(fours sats and center,PC use) Klispch SB-2(got them today! For PC use with KSW's LOL) Klipsch RB-5(sourround duty for now) Klipsch RF-5(another new member of TheEAR(s) systems) Klipsch KSW12(used as PC sub with KSW15!) Klipsch KSW15(yes new PC sub, still in the box LOL) On thier way... Klipsch RF-7 Klipsch RC-7 Klipsch RSW15(all three will work as a tag team in HT room with three my 3 Sunfires! TOO MUCH NAH JUST OVERBOARD) Klipsch RSW12 Klipsch RSW10 and maybe just maybe the KLF30(personal sale, the owner wants some pro Klipsch for home!? GAWD ) When I will run out of room space then I may stop! I like the Klipsch sound,BIG,OPENPLENTY OF DETAIL AND SLAM SO HUGE YOU BETTER BE READY.IN ONE WORD REAL. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  8. Biamping the dilema If you use the reciever to drive the upper range you better make sure it does not shound harsh. Most reciever amps sound harsh, most blame Klipsch speakers for harshness. Its not the Klipsch defect, the Klipsch simply takes what signal is fed and amplifies it! A good power amp should take care of the highs and the lows.If you buy asy a ATI 1505 or a Rotel RMB-1075 power amp you DONT NEED TO BIAMPING!You will compromise the overall sound by using a much inferior amp to power the highs. And the same goes for using the reciever amp to power the lower section, reciever amps have pathetic damping and the bass control is so so at best. Again a ATI 1505 or Rotal RMB-1075 will bring the best out of almost any speakers and not empty the bank. Did you know High-End speakers like the Dynes and Wilsons dont need biamping to perform.Just high quality amplification and good speaker wires. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  9. TheEAR(s) on speakers, again! If you value a very dynamic sound, the Klipsch RF-5 and RF-7 should be the step up.With the RF-5 you lose any harshness you may find irritating with the RF-3's at high volumes. The new RF-5 and RF-7's look just great in the real wood finish. The cabinets apear to be better built and the tweeters are better. The crossover is very smooth, nice Monster conetors on the back. If you have more to spend the Aerial Acoustics and Dynaudio will give you more detail and better definition at a cost. The Klipsch go for around 2 grand the Aerial and Dynes for 5-7 grand! And remember you need a heavy dutu amp to drive them, forget the recievers, even the so called High-End recievers fail to the task here.My Contour 3.3's sound better then the similar(configuration)Aerials. I have a all Dynaudio Contour setup and use separate power amps.Someting like a large Rotel or ATI is needed here. Now the Egglestonworks are in the same class as the WilsonAudio,Avalon and Dynaudio Confidence. You are looking at 8 grand and up and MUST have 2.5K or more amplification to get the max out of these. At this point I would get a Dunlavy SC-V,even better and "only" 15 grand! There is no better speaker made that sound so natural and free from any coloration! So back on earth the Klipsch RF-5 and/or RF-7 is a great deal and sound very good. And when I say very good to most this will be DAMN GOOD. My choice is a complete Klipsch RF series for HT and Dunaudio Contour for music. The Spendors are now my primary music speakers(BIG,HEAVY and cost more then most would be prepared to spend on a complete HT system). TheEAR(s) Now theears
  10. Harshness huh! Well the little Denon reciever is not a way to treat the Klipsch. I also have Denon recievers, the 3801 and 5800.And I dont use the integrated amps.I use the ATI 1505 with the 3801 and ATI 2505 with the 5800! If you want a more musical amp still the larger Rotel 5 channel amps will all do.The large Roteal amps are detailed and musical. Cheack Rotel out,it may be the amswer to your problems! TheEAR(s) Now theears
  11. Sounds to me like most here would prefer the KLF by a wide margin to the RF series!Well I agree the big Klipsch speakers with horn loaded mids and highs have someting the new Klipsch lack. The big KLF30 has this midrange magic that is to some point missing on the RF. Te larger(RF-5 and RF-7)RF series are no gentle speakers and can hit hard if driven by real amps.I know the K-Horns and KLF30's dont need a huge amp to give a huge performance. I am very happy with my RF-5's,driven by a Celeste 4250 power amp(no reciever can even touch this kind of quality and power, the grip this amp has is impressive) can give me the live performance. You have to consider I use the RF-5's in a very small room! 10 x 14 feet, only! And when I get the RF-7's I should get most of the impact of a KLF30(minus the in your face midrange). So for me the RF-5 and RF-7 are a better choice. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  12. Preamp If you are looking for a smooth sounding preamp then any used Audio Research or CJ tube unit will please. These are fantastic with solid state amps and horn loaded seakers like the Klipsch. The tube preamp will remove any agressive edge and add this tube magic. My main audio music only system consists of a Krell FPB600 matched to a Audio Research tube preamp! And guess what, with Klipsch RF or Dynaudio Contour speakers IT SINGS. Rotel preamps are nothing special, thier BIG amps are great value.Unless you can find a passive Rotel High-End preamp(discontinued several years ago I think). For up to $1000 US you should be able to find a great used CJ or AR tube preamp. You may keep it a loong time and not want to hear any solid state preamps again! TheEAR(s) Now theears
  13. Very nice setup Randy, and from what I see your system is well balanced.Tube amps, very nice, the Horns must sound very natural. And the few quality watts you get a huge sound, huge and detailed. Great system, this is the right way to drive large horn loaded speakers, with tubes. If only I had the room to fit these. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  14. Boa12 your Velodyne HGS18 is a weapon then! The BIG HGS can dig down to below 16Hz with power! You may end up with liver damage! LOL At least my subs stop near 16Hz ,lucky me. I tested all my subs at once and the dB meter hit over 126dB at 25Hz!OUCH this is why I am nervous, agressive and in your face now! BRRRR Scary I would advise any sane person not to try this at home,if you can just try. LOL TheEAR(s) Now theears
  15. I purchased all the Hospital grade outlets at the audio shops.Any audio shop will have in stock Hospital grade outlets. For all the electrical work I called a good customer who is also a electrician.A real pro,all the cables are rated at 20 and 30 amps. And a second breaker box was added. This was a major works, since more larger wires had to feed the second breaker box. Anyway it cost me a bit over $4000,one thing to keep in mind I have a custom outlet panel with 15AMP and 20AMP outlets! Its heavy duty. This way all my amps and powered subs will not activate the breakers, even at full tilt. And full output is dangerous, over 125dB in room!Down to 25Hz! 16. Wired1 lets not create a war of words here, come on the world is in a deep hole as it is.We dont need more negativity. I was a bit rude,I did not mean to trash Colin or anybody. On some boards I have to use the hammer so some understand.I will be less in your face type here. Ok Wired1 your system as I told you will sound very good, hey I tried even Synergy series Klipch with my huge Krell FPB600,SimAudio MOON W5 and Carver TFM-75! These are amps of extreme power, and the Klipsch come alive ,no RECIEVER can make them sing this way. Lets just lower the blood pressure here. And about the pics of my system, well NO DO.Four Lovan racks are packed with gear. Two amps stands are in my feet almost.Speakers all around.Remember the room is full of gear, and the room is 10 X 14 feet!LOL Its more packed then a High-End store sound room.Furthermore NO stranger ever touched my system. And if they try they better make reservations at the ER. I worked hard for all my gear and I dont show to who wants.Only a few co workers saw my system. My sound room is my sanctuary,my holy space.Even the shop owners and salesman i know for years dont pass the doorstep! So there you have it TheEAR(s) Now theears
  17. Yes Seb I saw you live not too far from TheEAR(s). By the way I dont want to sound like a snooty audiophile elitist but I only buy gear from other audiophiles(second hand) and audio shops that know me and where I can stay all day and just sometimes chat. I hold in high regard Filtronique,Opus(closed ),Radio St-Hubert(yes this small store has audio products most can deam about),Codell and Kebecson. He he I am a real elitist, and proud of it! No store can sell me anything,I walk in and say GIVE ME THIS.LOL then they can claim they sold someting BIG fast! LOL I am a BIG Dynaudio and Klipsch fan,Dynaudio Contours for music and Klipsch Reference for HT! Krell and SimAudio(from Quebec yes sir)are my fave amps.I have a collection of SimAudio amps(from 4070 to Moon W5!).Power and grace To me Stereo Review is TP and Stereophile is like a bible. Most dont like Stereophile only because they cant buy the High-End featured there.I like it because many of my components are on the recomended list! 19. Since TVodhanel is here how about using my Carver TFM-75 to power two SVS Ultras? The Carver TFM-75 is rated at 1000W RMS @ 4 ohms/per channel. This should beat the Samson amp you sell,am I right here? Right now I have... Aerial Acoustics SW12(SVS like bass,LOL) Revel B15(HGS killer) Carver Knight Shadow Sunfire Signature(SMALL PACKAGE AND HUGE OUTPUT) Sunfire MarkII Sunfire Junior Klipsch KSW15 Klipsch KSW12 You may ask WHY more bass??? Well I am a bass freak. I want to get in a very near future only the SVS Ultra subs(no amp) as the Carver TFM-75 could serve as the sub amp! What do you think TVodhanel? Thanks in advance TheEAR(s) Now theears
  20. Both can work well,I prefer the subs on ONE corner solution. In my case its the space restrictions and the result is better. I have 6 subs in ONE room! Now not only 2 but 6!And they can work as one SUPERSUB. If you wonder if one SVS Ultra will do you have to order two and try,one and then two.If you feel like the second one helps the bass and sound more efortless then go for two. I placed my subs along the wall, even the Sunfire subs are along the wall. Not in a corner.I prefer even response to a corner loaded over boost. I think ONE Ultra is all most will need, unless paired with horn loaded speakers and in a larger room. I could be happy with just the Aerial but I like TO HAVE THE EXTRA POWER from a multi sub setup. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  21. The down firing sub will give more impact, some prefer impact to definition.I prefer the front firing subs(Aerial Acoustics SW12,Revel B15,Carver SN,and the upcomong RSW series subs). This does not mean down firing subs dont gave good definition. Well designed band-pass may sound good, most however do not and sound boomy and one notey. The sealed subs hve more defined and tighter bass. Ported(bass reflex)need a very stiff cone suspension or/and fast amp with very high dmping factor to sound good. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  22. The images of the planes crashing in the World Trade Center twin towers made me sick.US civilian planes used like Kamikaze crafts!Crashed in cold blood to cause maximum damage! The organisers were NOT aboard the doomed planes, the organisers are simple COWARDS of the lowest kind. They dont even deserve to be treated like humans. I seriously think Bin Laden is part of this but NOT alone,a dictator and madman who ordered his troops to set oil wells of fire could very well be the mastermind behind all this!He has shown to be capable of monster destruction and send even his own to the death! The US should take the microscope and comb his case,I am sure they will find some evidence. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  23. Very easy here, too easy... If youb want the most civilised(musical)sub the SVS Ultra is your top choice. And it can perform in a HT setup like few! If you want KING of LOW and huge output the HGS-18 could be your sub nirvana.NOT as musical as the SVS Ultra or Aerial Acoustics SW12. If you want a space saving sub with awesome output(almost HGS18 like)the Sunfire Signature sub is a Mike Tyson of subs. The size will not impress but when you pump up the volume you may end being knocked out! The Earthquake is like a larger Sunfire copy(in a way)and I will not recomend it.I like the Earthquake CinemaNova power amp but not their subs. And if you want OUTPUT,QUALITY,MUSICALITY you may just find the Revel B15 you best bet! TheEAR(s) Now theears
  24. WOW nice pic of the two piece sub! LOL This looks like the glue that held the amp and passive radiator did not hold up too good!Often The White Van speaker company sells speakers like this! LOL When you habe a big bass impact the woofer or back panels fly out. LOL Just joking This looks very easy to fix,and can be fixed at home.Providing you have(or buy)a very strong glue to hold wood that retains some elasticity.Just apply on both sides(grove in the box and the back plate borders that touch the box.And insert the back plate, apply pressure to fit it all the way in.You should have some tool to crimp the back panel.Let it dry overnight. And voila. TheEAR(s) Now theears
  25. I have the Klipsch KSW12,its a good inexpensive sub.And it has no problems even at high volumes, only when pushed to very high levels does it begin to lose control. I even treated the woofer sourround with mink oil! This way the sourround will not crack with time as fast. I also got the KSW15,great sub for the price(got a real deal). Both are recomended The sub you have must have a driver problem. The place where you purchased the sub must exchange the defective unit.
