  1. Thebes: If you like Paco de Lucia, pick up a copy of "Friday Night in San Francisco." This is a live recording of Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin, and Al Di Meola in concert at the Warfield Theater in 1980. The first track (11:31) duet with Paco & Al Di Meola is KILLER! Crank it up! James
  2. Allan already mentioned Nina Simone, one of my favorites who could also play the hell out of a piano. Some others you might try are: Shirley Horn Cassandra Wilson Rene Marie Karrin Allyson Nancy King Patricia Barber Jacqui Naylor Madeleine Peyroux Jenna Mammina Margo Timmins (Cowboy Junkies) Should get you started. James
  3. You'll probably get a better response if you post in the Pro-Media 5.1 section.
  4. You'll probably get a better response if you post in the Promedia 5.1 section.
  5. Mine just arrived the other day. I got a fourth B&K ST-125.2 amp off ebay. I was the high bidder, but the reserve was not met. Got a "second chance offer" from the seller with a BIN at my high bid. SCORE! A B&K 125 wpc amp to match the other three in my system for less than $200 bucks. So, main listening room is: LaScalas in front, an RC-7 center, Heresys surrounds, and Cornwall rears driven by a B&K Ref 50 pre/pro and eight 125 watt channels provided by four B&K ST-125.2's. Sounds good to me! James
  6. Not sure about the models you're looking at, but I'd recommend that you stay far enough up the Denon food chain so as to make sure you're getting "made in Japan" Denon as opposed to "made in China Denon." I made the mistake of allowing myself to be talked into a Denon AVR 1804 - sounded like crap & lasted about a day in my system before it went back. YMMV. James
  7. Boom3, Corel was bought up by MicroCrap a while back and they killed off all the versions for competing operating systems. It's windoze or nothing. So much for welcoming competition. James
  8. I've got the KG2's up on shelves in the front corners of the garage on either side of the garage door, towed in and pointing back into the garage. There's probably about a foot of open space between the rear of the speakers and the corners. May not be ideal placement - but hey, it is the garage system. Sounds pretty good to me. James
  9. I've got KG2's in my garage system. Pretty close to the heritage sound & you can pick them up on ebay for $50 - $100 all day long. Great little "book shelf" speaker. James
  10. I firmly believe that "good enough" is good enough. I've put together a system that will knock any lay person on their heels - they can't say enough "wow's." To an "audiophile," however, it's merely "mid - fi." Good enough for me ('course I'm partialy deaf - as are most of my generation,) but what do I know? Sounds good to me. James
  11. Check out the movie "Ray" it tells you a lot about who Ahmet Ertegun was. The american music scene owes a huge debt to this son of the Turkish ambasador. James
  12. John: Is that a desmodromic set up in your avatar? James
  13. Perfect example of a picture being worth a thousand words. Having spent several years having to maintain tube equipment, I find there is a lot to be said for stuff that works when you turn it on. I will never go back to tubes. Just my personal preference, YMMV. James
  14. The one that got away, was a 1962 Jaguar 3.8L MK II I had when I was 19 [:'(]. Gun metal silver with red leather, perfect with 30K miles. Current ride's not bad, though. James
  15. Might help if you post in the pro-media section. James
  16. Buy 12 gauge and you're done. It will work for everything and it's all you'll ever need. James
  17. Why is it that every time I put a brilliant pebble in my shoe, I develop a limp - like Walter Brennen on "The Real McCoys." Inquiring minds want to know. James
  18. Going, going, gone. Sold for a mere $155,401.00. At least there is one less Warhol related POS on the market. Warhol was probably the most hyped/least talented "artist" of the 20th century. James
  19. Your Marantz receiver will be fine for now. You can always add a dedicated pre/pro & separate amps later. I'm partial to B&K products & I'm running a B&K Reference 50 pre/pro with four separate B&K 125 wpc two channel amps. Works for me! James
  20. Just ordered my copies, so haven't seen them yet & can't vouch for quality, but if you're a Margo Timmins fan & know the Cowboy Junkies - it has to be smoken good. Open Road & Long Journey Home Available from Rounder Records at rounder.com. Free shipping through Xmas. James
  21. WOW. Now at $38.5k with 6 days left in the auction. Just glad I don't have to listen to it! Colter is right. Even if you own the only copy in existence, you don't own the copyright. The copyright belongs to the "author" who first created the work of expression - with two main exceptions: First, when the author assigns all of his copyright ownership rights before the work is created - the assignee owns the copyright. Second, when the work is created by someone in the course of their employment - the employer owns the copyright. The copyright on this POS probably belongs to some record label. James
  22. Duke: 3,800 miles would give you a good jump towards Hawaii. Glub... Glub... Glub... James
  23. Amazing how much dreck there is on that list. James
