  1. Buy the Klipsch and you NEVER have to say your sorry to anyone about your speakers. They are far ahead of any other brand for the price. Read my signature, memorize it, and then go shopping!
  2. This is a seriously whacked thread! Everyone knows you have to have CLEAR insulation so that you have CLEAR sound! Sheesh, electronics 101........
  3. Now that I have your attention. Klipsch employees, I have scoured the EBay sight and I don't see a refirbished SUB-12 for sale at an awesome price. I'm in the need of a refurbed SUB-12 immediately. Who do I call? I don't know that I can live with this problem. I need help!!!![:'(]
  4. Geez Steve! Let me do the sale for you. If your sub is from the early 90s and it has lasted this long, BUY A NEW ONE! Get the SUB-12 at Best Buy and throw the old one in the trash. It has given you a nice long service life and the new subs offer a LOT more performance for the dollar. You can fix it if you want, but I'd really recommend buying a new one. Good Luck!
  5. Since the ear has way too many subs, I will offer to take one of your high end subs off your hands for $200US and shipping. Please make it a real brute though. I want that pants flapping feeling. Thanks Ear. I'm waiting on your generosity........[]
  6. It sounds like the crossover in one speaker is shot. I would replace all the caps in both crossovers if they are over 10 years old. We have guys around here who will do that for you and they do VERY good work.
  7. Customer service can't be all that good. I asked Amy for a half price Sub-12 and she hasn't sent it to me yet. []
  8. I would go for the Sunfire if you can afford it. It is a premium piece and you will not be disappointed. They take a beating and keep on ticking. In fact, even if you have to get a used one, go for it. Good Luck!!
  9. Plus, you have money left over to make the car payment!
  10. I believe it is your reciever. YOu are running out of power. If all of your connections are good, you are clipping and bottoming your speakers. This is very unhealthy for the speakers. Buy as much power as you can afford, or keep the volume turned down to a point where you don't have the problem. Good Luck!
  11. OK guys, you all have to remember that your math calculations are for RMS (constant) power, not music power. To actually play music or movies at a level that draws a constant 15 amps you need very inefficient speakers or massive volume requirements. Remember the breaker will not trip under quick surge spikes (like an electrical motor). So, your Sunfire mega buck, high end amp that is designed to transfer massive power to the speakers, will pull over, thats right, over 15 amps in a spike and still not trip the breaker. So, the Sunfire 400 watt X 7 is a killer system. All of those little spikes that would draw over 15amps are called....wait for it......here it comes........HEADROOM!!! Yeehaw! This stuff is fun! So, the amp will deliver the goods and handle spikes, without even breaking a sweat. I personally would run a 20 amp line to a Sunfire just because it deserves it. You don't buy top end only to mistreat it, and 15 doesn't do it justice.
  12. I believe it is an Asian sweatshop. Probably 14 year old girls putting them together so they can be sold out of the back of white vans........[]
  13. If you have long speaker wire runs, 30 ft or more you can pick up garbage from the wires. If you have any long low level inputs/wiring (10ft) from unit to unit, you will automatically pick up trash. But, this noise is not noticeable when you are actually playing music. It is a super weak trash signal and not worth worrying about. I would think if you have a real hum, you can take it and hook it up to much less equipment, just the pre and amp with speakers to see if it goes away. Or hook it up at a friends house. If it is all the same all the time, you have a bad capacitor (or more) and an actual unit problem. Troubleshooting is a pain, but it is worth it sometimes. As for power regulation, some of the guys on these boards have some good units they have used. Maybe they will post.
  14. OK tube guys. I know nothing about tubes. Actually, less than nothing! If I get a tube pre-amp, would that hookup to my SS amp and give me a tube sound? I was wondering about playing with tubes but I wanted to do it on the cheap. I mean so cheap the tubes are old and dirty looking.....almost garage sale. Thanks for the info.
  15. Also, for an easy fix, if you have a bass and treble control, knock the treble down some and increase the bass AFTER you check polarity of the wiring. If your room is making them harsh, do not hesitate to use the controls to tame the sound to a nice natural sound.
  16. What kind of distortion are you hearing? Also, what are your room dimensions? Thanks for the info.
  17. I can't remember which number it was but I think over 800 was my last one. Doc put me on pills. Anyway, it was sky high. Also, borderline diabetic. Oh and getting old too.......
  18. Where do you live? I have a near new set of Cerwin Vegas for $300 for the pair. They will put out serious sound. They are not bookshelf speakers though.
  19. I have been missing the site. I have been tied up for the last 6 weeks or so. Now, I'm settled in to a new home and even listened to some music. I'm waiting for the Best Buy to get the Magnolia room so I can listen to what they have. I hope everyone played nice while I was gone. Hmmmm........ I don't see too much blood on the floor.........[]
  20. Sorry I've been gone for so long guys! I have been busy with a personal move from Orlando to Port Richey Fl. Also, the terrorist activities have had me running. But, to answer the question of wanting more than a Sony 100wX7 reciever, you really must go to seperates. But remember, you will need to at least DOUBLE the power rating for a 3 db increase in volume. If you need more than a hundred watts, be sure to get at least 200 or more. As you can see, cost goes up radically when you want real high powered amps. I know some of the guys have the Sunfire equipment which is very robust. I would recommend buying one used if you can. Good Luck!
  21. Who would want to buy that old outdated stuff anyway? []
  22. I saw why your selling them. I would not go with the Heritage line if you listen to home theater. I would check out the reference line. They do it all well.
  23. There is no question, the B&Ws are a fantastic entry level speaker. Not Klipsch of course, but they try.........
  24. Why are you selling those great speakers? It will cost a fortune to buy something a lot better.
  25. Fixing your reciever should also fix your overheating problem. I'd wait until you have it repaired and use it a few times. Your problems should be gone. Let us know what happens.
