  1. I heartily recommend the RSX4's. It is a great combo, and a significant step up from the RSX3's it ships with.
  2. OK, so I didn't think the IGroove was substantial enough to fill my LR with sound. Fine for a small den, but the 15 x 28 room is too big. No surprise, I guess. So I got the $199 Ifi deal at Costco. What a difference!! It filled the room with sound. Being the tinkerer I am, I wondered if it could be improved much by the RSX4's I am using as rears in my HT. The answer is yes, indeed. The increased level of clarity and heft in the mid/upper bass surprised me. The dimensions are similar, but the sound is bigger and much more refined. Maybe it's partly because it is spec'd to 92hz instead of 116hz for the RSX3. Would I pay $400 for the Ifi and $300 more for RSX4's? No. But $200 for the Ifi and even $300 more for the RSX4's is worth it in my book. For $500 this rig is great. Next year I'll invest in a serious music system for the LR. This year, I'll be very happy with the little pocket rocket I put together. Now, I wonder how the RSX5 would sound...
  3. With a room that large, I'd go with the beefiest floor standers I could get budget and approval for and match the center to them. That probably means the RF35's up front.
  4. Got mine today at the Schaumburg, IL Costco. They had 5 or 6 more there and there are a few in the Lincoln Park location, too. It rocks all over the IGroove that I bought last week. At this price it is awesome.
  5. I don't know if Yamaha is the best match for them. I use a Pioneer and have heard Denon do well but Yamaha is pretty bright and this can cause an imbalance with the forward quality of Klipsch.
  6. I got an IGroove this week. It has too much hiss for nearfield listening (e.g., on a desktop), especially at low volumes. Out in a room I don't notice it.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I really hope the answer is yes, even if it's only for black or silver.
  8. Hello, Klipsch... is it coming or is it not?
  9. I saw a picture on ILounge of a black I-Groove displayed at CES. Way cool. Wonder if/when it will be available. http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/ipod-ces-2006-part-vi-hitch-and-the-rest-of-the-show/ Wayne
  10. I heard it at the local Apple store vs the two obvious competitors. The Bose had pretty smooth mid frequencies but seriously lacked bass drive. It sounded like all midrange and dynamically compressed. The Altec IM7's drawer mechanism was broken so I couldn't listen to it. The IGroove had a nice balance, good bass propulsion but was a little rougher sounding in the upper frequencies than the Bose. It could have been the source as is mentioned below. Based on what I heard I would go with the IGroove against the other two. It beats the Bose for sound quality and I question the reliability of the IM7, regardless of how it might sound. That said, I suspect a lot of competitors will hit the market in the coming months so by next summer (or spring) who knows what the market will look like. The IGroove also accepts any Ipod and I've read there may be an issue with some Ipods (like the Nano) and the Bose. With a black Ipod it would look great, with a white one the Bose looks a little better.
  11. Here's the important part: a 35" old style TV has the same screen area as a 42" widescreen. But when viewing letterbox movies or HDTV content a 32" widescreen display is the same size as the 35".
  12. It really depends on your perspective. I have Quintets and love them for what they are. The system you have is plenty to fill a room this size. But, if you need more refinement you are better off with the Cinema series.
  13. I have the Quintet's and they impressed enough that I just bought a pair of RF5's and RC7 to begin a new HT room. My Quintet's are matched to a KSW sub and sound surprisingly good for the $$. At the price of $1000 or so with sub you should also consider the RCX4's from the Reference line. They will probably outperform the Quintet's by a decent margin. If size is not an issue, you could also consider the smaller bookshelf speakers (RB15 or 25) with matching center and rears for just a little bit more.
  14. Hi, I was at Barrett's in Bloomingdale over the weekend after visiting Simply Stereo. Barrett's is closing that store and are cleaning out their entire inventory including Klipsch. Call them and you will get a very good deal if any are left. I got their last RF5's and RC7 over the weekend. You won't find anyone matching their price and they are an authorized dealer. I would say call them now.
  15. I have an 11" cube sub by Sunfire that you might be interested in and a few other items depending on your needs. Am interested in the RB75's.
  16. Well my K-horns were the ones he used when he was deaf and composing his 9th.
  17. Have you determined an asking price for both? I'm in Chicago and while it's not a hop and skip it might make a nice day trip. I may have missed it but are the original boxes available?
  18. Sorry, mistake.
  19. LG stands for 'Lucky Goldstar.' They used to make very low end products for the KMart and Walgreen's of this world under the 'Goldstar' brand. Now they are making $3000+ DLP RPTV's, LCD TV's and so on. They are a huge Korean manufacturer. They also distribute their TV's under the Zenith brand. Don't know if I'd spend that much on one of theirs instead of a Sony but for a <$200 player I might take the plunge.
  20. Sorry. No, I was asking if a 12 x 12 room is too small for an RF5 based HT. I'm moving into the room when the condo closes next month so nothing is in there yet. Thanks.
  21. Thanks for sharing your first hand experiences. One thing I forgot to mention is that these will become the front speakers in a 12 x 12 HT room. Does that room size change the equation? Wayne
  22. I'm a little late on this one, but I own the probably discontinued Samsung SK6. It looks identical to the SK5, has the Quintet speakers and placed me squarely on the Klipsch train. It is as awesome as a $800 HTIB is likely to get. No audio issues sync issues whatsover although the dialogue could be a little cleaner. It rocks surprisingly well for such a tiny rig.
  23. OK, maybe it's a dumb question. I've heard the RF35 and love them but an offer too good to resist has come up on a pair of RF5's. I can't listen to a pair until Saturday and need to decide fast on them. I'm nervous about pulling the trigger without having heard them. The seller is not local. What I love about the RF35's is their fullness. The RF5 looks taller and thinner and I wonder if it has the same "authority." Would I be making a mistake by getting the RF5's without having heard them? Thanks in advance.
  24. How beat up do you think those Heresey's are? I'd take a well cared for private owner set over the Runt's old pair anyday.
  25. I used to own a PAS3 and modded it with a kit from Van Alstine in Minnesota. Was decent before, and more more dynamic after the mod. The mod was pretty cheap as I recall but it may not be available any longer.
