  1. I have an old samsung that I had to replace the bulb on twice. I also have a sony KDS 50A2020 and a benq dlp projector. The benq I only get about 700 to 1000 hrs per $400.00 bulb. It will be replaced sone with a new projector. The two TV's I have never got the advertixed bulb life out of either but htey do last a lot longer than the projector. The bulbs for the TV's are also a lot cheaper. I do replace them all my self.
  2. I believe in science so that is why I don't believe AGW has been proved. Keith another argument another day Mark[]
  3. Give this one a try availble in Iowa, Ill and Nebr I think http://www.templetonrye.com/
  4. I'm looking to build a couple of surounds with the left over parts of my belles. I would like a mid horn that is a little narrow than gothover's fastrack's which would work with the K55. I'm looking to build a cornscala type but narrower and taller. I have seen the tall cornscalla thread. I would like a horn less than 15" wide and about 9 to 10 inches deep. I'd like to end up with something that looks like a tall thin belle style which would match my 3 front belles. I have the woofers, the k55's and some tweeters. I may use Bob crites tweeters for upgrade. I would also need crossovers, my old belles only had the old ab's. These will be my winter projects. They need to sound beter than my forte 2's that are doing my surround duty. Well maybe not be better but be able to go flat against the wall and sound as good.
  5. never mind. buy an old lascala or a pair if you got room. There is a pair of shells available in our town for a 100 bucks. Learn to refinish them and you end up with a great looking center. It's not that hard.
  6. I use a sunfire tga 7x400 Way over powered but does sound nice for movies.
  7. To get the lower grills off you have to remove the whole upper portion which includes the bottom panel of the upper section. You will then see four set screws for the top of each grill. Now turn the bell completely upside down and there are 4 more set screws for each grill. Possibly some on the bottom may be covered by the access panel on bottom. You may have to take the acess panel off to get to some of the screws. At this point all you have to do is remove the woofer and you have your belles completely torn apart. It will take a couple of hours to pull apart and put back together. You may want to just vaccum them with a brush attachment while they are in place.
  8. I replaced mine with bob crites cast. In all honesty I don't know if my ear can tell that much difference. I'm sure it would be worth it though to make sure that the woofers are in phase. That little black terminal will come off it it doesn't have a screw through it.
  9. I believe left is positive. But I'm not positive. My little black post/plate that you attach the wire to has a red mark on the vertical surface towards the rear. The red one was connected to the positive on the woofer.
  10. What I missed. A CL add for 250 lp's from 60's 70's and 80's for 50.00. I saw it and called and she said she had sold them 3 days earlier. Buttttt..... she had found another box of lp's from her late husband with about 50 lp's she would sell me for 10.00. I said I would be right over. It had a lot of old mMarshall tucker, black oak Ark. , some who, little feat and some others. They were all in very good condition. One wipe with the disc washer and they played with minimal pops and clicks. I kick my self for not checking the craigslist 3 days earlier.
  11. SWL I have the same set up three belles across the front. I also have a svs pb ultra 12/2. My sunfire tgp5 has the sub integrated in the stereo mode for 2 channel listening. I have the sub in the center front and the sound seems pretty seemless. I've tried the parametric eq on my sub several times and I really can't tell much difference. I can't tell if I did it right I couldn't find much of any real peaks. I know I don't get a bang in the chest bass but it shakes the house and doesn't sound boomey at all. I have it crossed at 60 and I also tried it at 80. I think crossed at 60 the belles take over and give it a more musical sound down to 60. I could be imagining that. I'm pushing my belles with a tga 400. So 400 watts going to crites woofers put out some very good base. Let me know if you think I'm doing anything wrong. I like tinkering with it to get better sound.
  12. http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/products/squeezebox-duet.html I have an older model that only cost about 250.00 I haven't seen it on the sight. sound quality is excellent. I use my computer up stairs as a music server for all my CD's in lossless format. I also use rhapsody and could use pandora. I have internet radio also. I hard wired mine to my local network in the house but they do work wireless. I would suggest a highspeed internet for off the web content.
  13. I got mine last week. Not at as good as price. I got it from the Needle Doctor. It definitely helped over my old shure.
  14. This sounds like an either /or question my wife asks me. I always answer why can't it be both. Thats what I did. I guess I got the amp/preamp first, the sunfire stuff for HT. I then replaced my forte II's with belle's and still have the sunfire pre and amp.

  16. Go ahead Dennie and get the one from Jhoak. I can tell from the Right This Minute thread that you play a lot more vinyl than I do. I'll keep looking or consider the Denon or the ortofon. I have a Shure M104e on it right now which plays OK and I was just kind of thinking about up grading a little. I've seen some listed through the shopping search engines but I was a little leary about trusting those suppliers. I been burned on stuff before when they list it and take your money and then put it on back order also. Then your stuck waiting for them to get it end like everyone else. I like to stay with companies that have better/more positive ratings. Thanks everyone for your input.
  17. I want to replace my cartridge on my technics SL D2. I presently have an old shure M104e. I've checked a lot of sources on the internet and they are all out of stock. The needle doctor says the are back ordered due toparts availability. Anybody have any ideas for a source. I do want new and preferablly not give to much of a premium for it.
  18. My lamp just burned out again. Probably less than 500 hrs on it. It's a Benq which has had a history of problems with short lamp life. I'm ready to change to another projector. I'm going to go with 1080p for blue ray and I want good amount of lumens since my room has some ambient light. I like a good high contrast number also. The Benq had that in 720 p but I'm tired of replacing lamps frequently for the price. I'd like to stay at the 2K level or below for price. Have any of you had any luck with any brands like infocus, panny or others.
  19. My wife is into quilting also. I don't want her to see this it will only give her ideas. Her ideas end up being my projects. I am impressed with the fabric shelves. My wifes a walk in closet and a stand alone cupboard all filled with material. I don't think she could ever have enough material.
  20. looks like fun. Wish I had room for something like that.
  21. I wasn't even aware of that movie. I actually got the name from my wifes profession. OB/gyn.
  22. I used Oakwood Veneer company for my veneer. Prices were good and they had fast shipping. This was my first attempt at veneering. I did one piece of scrap then I started on the edge banding. Looking back I did some faux pas but luckly they aren't that visible. I just followed the directions on Joewoodworker.com The iron on method is very forgiving. I did buy an extra sheet of veneer just in case I really screwed up. That is one thing about wood working is that if you mess up you can usually go buy more wood. It did take a lot longer than I thought it would. It takes a lot of time to plan out how you are to cut the pieces out of the veneer so that the grain goes well with the speaker. I got that done for the front, top and lower sides. The upper sides I could have planned better and had the grain continue from the lower . I thought I had but I laid it out on the wrong edge. It still looks presentable but not perfect. That is why Greg makes his money for restorations, they are a lot of work planning and tedious work applying. The cast frame woofers I'm still out on. Haven't listened much yet. I put them in so I would have matched woofers in each speaker and they really aren't that expensive.
  23. no I didn't notice any difference in the sound between the two speakers. After the veneering I put Bob Crites cast Woofers in though. The others were both K33's just square magnet verses round.
  24. No I'm not the original owner. I don't think the guy I bought them from was either. I got them off craigslist from a NON forum member. He never mentioned anything about the woofer being replaced. I don't know if he knew it had. I never asked if there had been a fire in them though. I'm wondering how that it happened. Is that from running too many watts to an efficient speaker.
  25. Here is what the belle's look after the veneer. They now match my forte ii's and quartets I use for surrounds. Also the walnut was all cat scratched up before I began.
