  1. BS - What year are your LaScalas and were the AL-3's stock? Cuz I wonder if the improvement you're getting with the ALK Universals is attributed more to the new caps in them vs. stock AL-3's that likely have older and probably less quality caps in them. I've read many posts that say they are rather equal to each other. I love my stock AK-3's. It's exciting to know with better caps, they could sound even better. There's a white cap in my 1993 that says "Mexico" on it. [^o)] I can only comment on what I've heard (literally), not necessarily what I've read or picked up on this forum. I've had caps replaced on stock networks and noticed only slight improvement. This is on the ALK universal For some reason and with the proper setting, you can just hear the tweeter working (air) Instruments are more pronounced and passages are more refined Imaging is improved, very clear and open In the La Scala, it also helps with the appearance of more bass Overall, better balanced speaker with the ALK I think the band pass on the squawker is a big, big plus I'll be working on the Cornwalls, next.
  2. Simple answer, ALK universal "Parts is parts" Some parts are new, some parts are used. Some parts are over-qualified. Let's see, how can I convince him on Crossovers?[*-)] I got it, why in the world do the Cornwall III's sound so good with the Heresy midhorn?[^o)] What brought the recent audiophool acolades to the La Scala II?[] [bs] is going [|-)]
  3. I'm too busy listening. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Imaging and air are back: crisp, but not harsh. DBX120 kicking up the bass a little Right on...[Y][] These monsters hardly fit in La Scala's [:$]
  4. I'd use 'em on Colter. Good bash upside the head would do wonders. Maybe he'll cut his hair...
  5. My re-vamped ALK's, which setting should I use?
  6. I am just trying to soften him up for the KILL........DC isn't but 100 miles away[] Khorns, Jubilees......I'm not picky (normally) I'm thinking hand grenades. That outta break loose something.[]
  7. I think Teak is notoriously a water resistant wood. You'll see it used in marine applications and outdoors. That's why I hate it. I hate Colter cuz he's got more crap than I do and he won't give me his Khorns. [bs]
  8. I hate teak and you too. BS He knows I'm jabbin, I think [*-)]
  9. I've listened to the popular AL-3's in my first pair of La Scala's and borrowed a pair of ALK's from Woodog one weekend (thanks Woo). I really liked the AL-3's, but the ALK universals took it to another level. If you want to crank 'em, just attenuate. Woodog claims they add a bit of air around the instruments and I agree. Wished I had some ALK's for my new La Scala's... BS
  10. Welcome. A picture would be very helpful. 1980 would be 1's. Are they oiled or lacquered?
  11. Jorjen, It's bout time we saw the Cornscala pics. I've seen enough Jubilee. BS
  12. Hi Boomac, Not being critical but don't take everything so seriously. BS Button justified his 'blows it away' assessment with 'because I own one and the cabinets looks cool'. An enthusistic owner just having some fun. Have fun. Ahem, absolutely. LYAO.
  13. Well I've never heard a SLP, but the Peach will "blow it away" because I have one and the cabinet looks cool. BS
