  1. I've heard a 200 watt B&K with RF-7's...........It had a very nice sound but was "lifeless" in comparison to my RF-7's that are in a bi-amp configuration with 500wpc Crown amps. The B&K amp reminded me of the Denon POA-2800 amps I had with my 7's..........I think the B&K sounded better than the Denon's but neither had the nuts to make the RF-7's come alive. My two cents......from personal experience. []
  2. I have to work Saturday's............so I wouldn't be able to make it until late afternoon. Tubes should be nice and warm by then. []
  3. Slightly different........but this hobby was one of the things that helped me get through a tough time three years ago when my wife passed away. Good luck to you. []
  4. Cool desk............No speakers? []
  5. Been there....Done that!!! []I've killed two clocks in my main listening room because of the "subbage". Velcro, two-way sticky tape and a few screws have come in handy.[] Have to say that it's always a relief to find that it's not the system making the annoying noises.........just causes them.
  6. I also have a 3600 pre in my second system and absolutely love it with my RF-7's. Your description sums up mine as well. [] I've always liked the Marantz sound........but did not experience it with Klipsch until about a year ago. I've been blown away at how clean and detailed the sound is. [Y]
  7. Marantz and Klipsch work very well for music. [Y]
  8. Seeing them probably won't cut it...........listening to them will, though. []
  9. Now that.........is cool. [Y][Y]
  10. Nice equipment.......USNRET. [] I see that you have a Jolida JD100 cdp. What is your opinion on the unit? I have one as well.......never upgraded or changed the tubes.......the warmness it adds is minimal......but is very clean sounding.
  11. With all the experimenting I have tried with room treatments, I 've been able to tame the highs by treating early reflection points and placing an absorber behind the horn of the speakers. The bonus I received from placing the absorbers behind the horns was increased bass.......and most of all......increased mid-bass!! I have yet to find a configuration with room acoustics that boosts the treble........but have found that properly dialing in the sub will do just that......in addition to enhancing the mids as well. [] It is true.......the room plays the biggest role.
  12. I'd be very interested in attending to hear the Palladiums.......if that's ok?
  13. I'm asking this question for myself........but it may also be helpful for the op. How would you guys rank the SVS PB-12 Ultra/2 plus compared to the JL Audio, THX Ultra etc?
  14. Just make sure you get one that has pre-outs.......you're gonna want more power for the 7's later on when you have the money. 400-500 wpc from an external amp brings the RF-7's to life. I have three pairs........they rock. [Y]
  15. That's very interesting, Bruce. Glad to hear you enjoyed your time there. [] One thing, among many others, that I remember was leaving Chicago in the middle of February. Frigid temperatures.....and then arriving in the Phil's 80-90 degree hot and humid weather. Inviting at first, then walking around with a bottle of water at all times with a towel hanging on my neck!! After about a week or so I started to get somewhat used to it. Then, after two weeks and arriving back in to Chicago's cold, sub-zero weather......YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME. Why would anyone live here? Getting off the plane was like walking into a freezer!! [] Yeah, I could see myself down the road settling down there also. Living a simple life.......as long as I have something to plug my tunes into. []
  16. Marvel........Where in the Phil's? My late wife was from Tacloban City. I visited there twice via Manila. The first and only times I have ever been on a plane. Talk about a long flight!!Coming from someone who has never been anywhere........can't even spell "va ka shun"........The Philippines was and always will be a very special place to me. Very humbling. []
  17. I think Motorhead does the soundtrack for "Top Notch *******".
  18. RF-7 MAINS RF-7 REARS RC-7 CENTER RB-75 SIDES 500 wpc @8ohms............I usually never know what the heck is going on in the movie............but it sounds INCREDIBLE. [] PS........SVS and KLIPSCH responsible for shaking the house. [Y][Y] Gotta luv it. [] ..........Try it both ways.......The RB-75 is an awesome speaker.......RF-7's little brother. []
  19. Yes, it should. As far as I know, that is the proper way to hook it up if you don't have a dedicted "sub-out" on your preamp.......or you can run your speaker wire out of your amp......into the sub......out of the sub......to the speakers. Running two RCA cables out of the amp's (left and right) to the sub's left and right would work also........but a wye splitter is not needed. Hope this helps. []
  20. .......Keep your chin up JB. [H]
  21. Looks like they mopped up my drool in front of the LaScala's []
  22. I would like to find a Marantz 500 to go with my Marantz 3600 preamp.
  23. I don't think they would.......but I just think speakers look cool no matter what. []
