  1. I just talked to my good friend and to my shock, her dad passed away two days ago. All is well one day, and then just like that its all gone. I'm so shocked I don't even know what to tell her. He was fine after lunch, just sitting on the couch, looked like he was taking a nap. But just never woke up. Although we all know life is short and to cherish every moment, until something tragic happens everything is always taken for granted - atleast for me I know thats true. What can I say to a person who discovers her dad on the couch not responding, calls 911 and watched the paramedics try to revive him for an hour.... then call her mom and brother. I can't tell her its fine, that'd be a lie. The worst part is I don't know how to make her feel better, in my heart I know time heals all wounds, but I can't tell her to just give it some time. I've never known how to deal with death, I hate even thinking of it but I guess thats only natural. I don't know why I posted thisbut here it is anyway.
  2. Talking of teak wood, back when I was a kid in India my grand'pa had an antique teak wood frame couch. That thing was a beauty, always loved the way that wood looked. If I remember right him and his friend built it in his younger days, i.e pre-WWII.
  3. Sorry I dont mean to steal this thread. pauln, thats one hell of a nice camera. I have a canon ae-1 program, its a lovely camera as well. Although it has the setting for shutter-priority mode and the fully programmed mode where I pick the shutter speed and the camera chooses the aperture setting.. I prefer to use it fully manual, adds creativity. I always wanted one of those Asahi K1000s, ah the original. "I really never know how the pictures will come out until I get them processed" is the absolute thrill of film SLRs, I maybe new school in age but I'm def. not digital.
  4. Craig, I just called my mom to ask the website of the friend that we fish with often. His camp is called Happy Day Lodge, check it out at www.happydaylodge.com . Its on Lake Windermere, and its got spectacular fishing. The owner is Bob, hes actually from Ohio I think. We've fished together a few times and hes a real wonderful guy. He'll go out of his way to accodomate you or go with you one day (you have to let him know in advance so he can fit around his schedule) to show you the good spots. Only point being, when he takes you to the backwater lakes you release anything you catch. But of course you can go the next day by yourself and find the spot and keep the fish you catch. Hes just watching out for the population of the big ones in the backwater lakes, especially trout. Windemere is also a big lake, and is connected to a whole lot of others.. and namedly Goldie is another good fishing lake. Bob has a lot of boats, and a pontoon as well. Its a sweet pontoon, especially when you want to fit 8 guys together for an evening of social fun and fishing. He also has an outpost, about 15mile travel on the lake from the main camp that he rents out if memory serves right. But that one is always booked for people who wanna go really remote. Under "fishing" on his website you'll see the monsters that have been netted in there last year. I was actually there on my way back from an evening of great walleye when an older gentlemen came in with his 31' lake trout. my fondest memory from lake windemere is when a bald eagle snatched a fish about 30 feet from our boat, quite a sight.. those bald eagles are SO huge I had no idea. good luck Ranjith
  5. ranjith, How is the fishing around the moosehorn lodge? They sure have some atractive housekeeping plan prices. $329 each for a week if you bring your own boat is a steal! $409 and they provide boat, motor, gas, bait and the works for your boat that is even a bigger steal. These prices are if only two people go great deal for sure. Are you going to be in the north country the end of May? Craig On the lake that Moosehorn Lodge is on, the fishing is pretty good. Not many giant ones, atleast I don't recall from people in Chapleau. Yeah they offer some great prices, and the accomodation in person looks decent as well. Definitely more luxurious than a shack or a tent for sure. The lake they lodge is on is a smaller one, good walleyes. But Chapleau/moosehorn area has SO many lakes that you don't have to worry if one lake isn't biting. Within 15-20min drive from the lodge I can tell you atleast a dozen great fishing spots, including spots for deep lake trouts in the hottest of summer days.Too many lakes + not a lot of population = sweet! Also, with Chapleau being 15mins away, you can get live bait for quite cheap. As far as me being up in Chapleau at end of May, it'll depend on what kind of summer job I get. Let me know when you're headed up there, if schedule and circumstances permit I'll be home and maybe join you with my artillery. I don't know if you are into hunting but moosehorn lodge is THE place to visit. Chapleau has a ridiculous concentration of black bears, last summer I spotted 5 black bears on my street in one night, it was nuts. Last fall at the moosehorn lodge I remember there were four American groups there, and 2nd day of hunting all four had atleast a bear each. Quite the sight watching those pros skin them and hang'em up. At a lake pretty close to the moosehorn lodge me and dad caught 6 walleyes ranging in 20' to 26' in about half hour... it was one of those days. Its a remote lake though, have to drive through this narrow dirt road for about 10-12mins and then a tiny 5min hike to the actual spot. Talk to the locals, they know more than they'll be willing to admit. If you do happen to go around there I can find some hot spots from dad's friend who also runs a camp up there. He always has them on his gps on a few different lakes. good luck Ranjith
  6. Not affiliated to the seller and etc. , thought I'd post for anyone looking for parts. http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/28963-klipsch_corner_horn__quality_parts
  7. Came across this: http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/28965-for_sale_or_trade_one_1954_klipsch_corner_horn__54_high__drivers_are_mint And they don't even use Klipsch drivers, Wharfedales and University tweeter horn.
  8. NMR Guy, I have a nice pair in OO, I love them. They're entry level and yadda yadda some might say, but as bookshelf speakers theyre nice. Getting them in the right position took a little time of trial and error, I find that 20-30' from the back wall and 10-15 from the side walls(if thats the case) does a good job. They have nice sparkly highs, and surprising bass for bookshelf speakers. I'd describe the bass as quite smooth, not at all boomy like some other bookshelfs I've heard. I'm running them with a 35watt integrated as well, chances are I'm upgrading the amp this summer but its dont a good job. I've never really turned the knob past 5 or 6 when running my cdp. They are nice speakers for sure. Tell me how you like it after a listen
  9. lol my first thoughts right after I wrote the previous posts and just sigh'ed. If...wait wait.. WHEN I upgrade speakers I'm borrowing my dad's car, I'd probably pay less in gas than customs.
  10. Me and my dad barely rent those shacks, we prefer camping out in tents. Up here in Northern Ontario there are plenty of places, just around my small town of 1800 people theres about 260 lakes between us and the next town. Tiny or big, they all hold fish. Since up here is not as populated and everyone is a conscious fisherman, the big ones are always lurking in every lake. End of may is an amazing fishing season, or even early may. If you need any expenses I personally know a few camp operators and they all have the "American Plan" for people from down south that includes a cabin, fishing trips, food and etc. Bait casting is fine, although I like spin casting. Pikes are plenty and they'll hit just about anything... they specifically love spinners, the five of diamonds yellow spoon (or just about any attractive spoon), jerkbaits, crankbaits... or leeches and minnows. I see no point in spending $20 on a giant Rapala crankbait when a leech does the job as well but different stokes for different folks. Moose Horn Lodge is about a 15min drive from my house, and its quite a nice place. They are on a spectacular lake, and are professional owners. You can check them out at www.moosehorn.net They also do great packages for the fall moose and bear hunt season, always see a bear or two hanging out there when I go for a visit. Then theres the Chapleau Lodge located on Borden lake, and from fishing there I can tell you its a very nice lake to fish. You can check them out at www.chapleaulodge.com The cheapest way is still to find campgrounds and tent out, or drive out to a remote lake and find a flat piece of land
  11. Craig, White River? you're kidding me I'm from Chapleau, not all that far from White River. I fish a lake every 2days in the summer anywhere from White River to Wawa to Chapleau and further east towards Timmins. Thats a nice stringer of walleye. My biggest catch of my life was last year just 10mins from my home on the Chapleau river, a 41inch Pike. That was a monster of a fish, fought for awhile... I was so scared I'd lose it, I was running an 8lb line with a leech while fishing for walleyes. I was speechless when my dad took the net and brought in the bad boy. I let him go though, smaller ones taste better. Whoever said pikes dont taste good, its an acquired taste however. I love walleyes for eating, or even yellow perch. My dad used to work at the Chapleau power plant, it was about 100feet away from the chapleau river, and the plant had a pump installed right on the banks of the river. The water pipe that sucked the water in was placed mid-river and had a giant cage around it so fish didn't get sucked in. But the beauty of it is, theres a plank that I can walk on to get on the rusty cage and the force of the current keeps feeder pikes and walleyes very close to the cage. That means the big boys are lurking just a lil further away, its the best fishing spot ever. I fish there almost everyday and always comeback with dinner. Looking at all the pics makes me crave fishing, 11 days till I'm done my finals and am headed up home for a week before I start working some sort of summer job. A week of trout, pike and walleyes I can barely wait for. I'll scan some pics of the fishing spot I was talking about after tomorrow's exam. Damn, all this talk is getting me pumped for the season.. gotta renew my license for the year!
  12. Figured I'd cook a decent meal today, a break from kraft dinner and sidekicks. Spent all day checking out new fishing gear, since it is spring now. So heres my dinner, this ones a red snapper but mine was a rainbow trout. Theres a grocery store that sells live trout all year long, satisfies the fisherman in me while I'm at school. Add some salt, fresh ground black pepper, chili powder, garlic, cumin...let it marinate, then GRILL'ER!
  13. Craig, my parents live in Northern Ontario and I totally know what you are talking about. My parents moved up there when I finished my gr.12 and moved out to univ. I spend my christmas holidays and parts of my summers up there with them, and its a small town of 1800 or less. But I've met more nice, social people up there than I have down here near toronto. Something about their way of live, so much more laid back. Everyone pretty much knows me by my name, be it at a store or the bait shop. But then again we are the only non-Canadian family up by that neck of the woods. I absolutely love N.Ontario, and the fishing is to die for. Which town do you visit every year?
  14. How did I miss this thread? I read the first two pages awhile ago, and never went back to it until... now. WOW! Amy does a good job as the Klipsch Cop. And the other thread you linked to? priceless. I wonder what went through his/her mind as he/she sat there and replied to his/her alter ego on a forum! *shakes his head*
  15. For me, it doesn't get better than this... my absolute favorite ... Hoegaarden!
  16. Darn looks like I saw this post too late
  17. Welcome Back Michael! Sorry I didn't respond to your email awhile ago, been busy with the school year nearing the finish and finals just 2 days away. How've you been? That Photoshop is quite some program huh? I've been fooling around with it myself. Good luck with going digital. Gotta get with the times I suppose, but for me personally I've always had that thing for film SLRs. The suspence of waiting to see how the pic turns out will never be the same with digital, and also one has to really take a good pic when it was film as opposed to clicking and deleting 10 in a row to get the 11th shot right in a digital. You're going Nikon? I still absolutely love my Canon AE-1 Program, beauty of a camera.. and built like a tank. Not a very advanced camera but does what its supposed to better very well. Have you tried both the D200 and 5D? How do they compare? I still ought to scan you a couple to get an opinion, long overdue maybe after my finals are over perhaps. Cheers, Ranjith
  18. sweet read! thx Clarence My parents have a couple of old computers sitting in the basement, and I've been wanting a music server for awhile. Now I'm feeling ambitious, I think I see a summer project coming my way. But I'll have to read up on the technical aspects of it thoroughly, i.e bombard folks on here with questions
  19. Paris is a but-her-everything... never liked anything about her.... her sister on the other hand, shes a hottie
  20. Winamp rules, there are TONS of codecs to improve/worsen the sound, depending on what you do with them. Lots of cool skins, very neat player no extra whistles and bells that are not needed. I like it.
  21. Agreed, I didnt like the last one either. And what was up with that ending?
  22. I really liked the movie, great entertainment value. A very nice psychological take from Cronenberg, as always expected. Nick put it better with his "relentless, no-holds-barred, in-your-face sequences of brutal violence. " Vigo acted pretty well, quite a far cry from his Aragon days I'd think. Man.. that headshot he had in the cafe, wow! This guy must be good at CS
