  1. That is really very bad to have to sell precious gems to have wheels, I am sorry to hear about your situation, and I mean that. But, if you decide to sell, I am trying to put together a tube system and would be interested. Where are you located near? Before I threw in the towel I would get a second mechanics opinion, anyway. Unless the first was someone you really trusted - but then again, anyone can be wrong and sometimes a fresh look at the problem may reveal a workable solution. Good luck.
  2. Older Little Feat - before Lowell passed on, Dire Straits, Dave Matthews Band - Crash and the first Elton John.

Seadog, thanks for sharing the results of this move. I have recently begun setting up a listening room in the basement (only room I don't have to share with anyone else - read wife). I have them on the 12' wall right now, but plan to build a false corner to enable them on what will become a 16' wall. I was considering whether or not it would be worth it, but now I am going to proceed.
  4. False corners! What did you size it down to? This is in the basement and I can pretty much do anything I want to section it off.
  5. oops. I didn't realize that the forum software would **** me! Sorry.
  6. Yo, Dean, What if the room is 13 x 24 ? Which wall would be the best for corner horns ? This **** sure gets confusing.
  7. anyone looking to sell a good - meaning completely rebuilt - integrated amp, either Scott, HK, Fisher or similar vintage. don't need a lot of horsepower, 10 or more wpc. driving khorns or cornwalls. needs to have phone section, which most or all of these type will, i guess. something in the $500 range on price. i was too slow on texas42.
  8. dont know how much help this will be if you are using windows, i use a mac. but it is easy to do. i use a free open source program called audacity, you can download it off the internet. it edits the recording, cutting into separate tracks the most common thing i do to each side of the LP. then i use itunes to burn to a CD. no sweat.
  9. Run! Run fast and don't look back, you might get tripped up and that would slow you down. when you think you are safe, stop, catch your breath a little and then start funning again. Repeat until the idea of doing this has passed forever.
  10. Parrot, btw - which amp should i get for my klipsch speakers of such and such a model?
  11. kev, did you have to type "Opposes" after each line?
  12. I called the guy. They are KG 5.5 and the center is a KG 2. Not my cup of tea but maybe someone.
  13. There are some really knowledgeable folks over at the macgurus forum. www.macgurus.com I think there is a pcmcia card that enables 5.1, but if you post over there you should get answers. That is a pretty large room, but I used to run an older powerbook G3 and the output was via the USB port to a set of Soundsticks and an iSub. I believe they are made for Apple by Harmon-Kardon and still available but now the output is from the sound out (headphone) port. Anyway, they were plenty loud when played at a few special events in a room about that size.
  14. How do they rate compared to Cornwalls? How about Khorns?
  15. Hey charlieboy, You posted before about when your speakers seem to disappear, at least I thought it was your post, but no matter. I am sitting here sort of auditioning my Cornwalls and Klipshorns, unfortunately with my sandby SS amp, listening to the Allison Brown Quartet CD 'Replay.' With the Cornwalls, it weems as thought the speakers have vanished, but when I switch to the horns, I definitely hear the music as a coming from the left and right channels. I am back against the wall of a 24 x 13 room, and the speakers are on the long wall. The horns in the corners and the cornwalls just inside them, slightly toed in. I am thinking that the dimensions of the room just aren't very good for the horns. any opinions?
  16. I have found a couple bran muffins and big mug of strong coffee helps. I agree about the separate phone stage - if you are into vinyl, you probably know it before you decided to buy a peach, so you get the blueberry. In other words, I don't imagine great upgrade demand from one to the other just because of phono. My curiosity is peaked about what's coming next. I haven't started my Christmas list yet.
  17. I grew up in Glendora, CA. "Pride of the Foothills." Small world. Too bad I live about as far away as possible now, or I would like to see the stuff.
  18. So, Craig, what are you driving with those VRDs? Just the Chorus? They look like skinny Cornwalls, and if they sound as good, they are shhweeeeet! I guess I just got to get me a juicy preamp and some VRDs. Then I may never leave my cave.

The effect you describe is a product of distortion - not clean power. I recommend at least 50 wpc with the RF-7's for Rock music. ---------------- okay, so i exagerate a little. there is no distortion, i only meant to emphasis how little power they need to drive really big sound from them.
  20. Jeez, it's a game, isn't it? baseball is still considered a game? too bad ordinary people that barely make enough to get by still pay obscene amounts of money to go watch this game, that and the product sponsors, and the game is a multi-billion dollar business. even Wrigley Field put in lights so they could compete. i think that the sweetest thing is these fat cats have far more problems than the poor slobs who support them by watching sports. if they had khorns they wouldn't have the sense to spend time enjoying them.
  21. I am really enjoying my Tjoeb 99 CD Player, recently bought used. Haven't experimented with any tube rolling but it sounds great.
  22. I see the one on audiogon, looks real nice. but who needs so much power? I am running my horns with the EICO HF-81 and can barely stay in the room with the level between 0 and 1, and it is a 14 WPC amp. I never realized what high efficiency speakers do with just a little power. How does the effieciency of RF-7's compare? If they are close, don't bother paying for 50 watts X 2, or even 25 X 2. I was considering a mac 240, but I think it would be overkill. But it is a really nice looking amp. For that kind of money would you rather have a blueberry?
