  1. now all I need is a plague of locusts....lol!
  2. Thanks for the advice John, I am pretty weak at sodlering but I will give it a try. well Edster if you MUST know, a bat (yes the flying rodent kind, remember I live in El Salvador) had turned the k-horn into a roost and I was opening up the door to check if had managed to enter fully and mess up the interior...it had not...hey maybe another story for the story teller contest?...lol reagrds, tony
  3. I got my MBA in Marketing... ANYWAY, I pretty much chalked up the high-end cable thing as snake oil until I had the chance to audition some high end speaker cables and interconnects compared to my "came in the box" interconnects and zip cord at homoe on my system. I clearly heard differences and ended up buying some higher-end cables for my stereo. nothing for thousands but some Cardas speaker cables and Audioquest interconnects. I don't know much about the physics, metallurgy, etc. but I heard audible differences, especially in the treble region, and thought it was worth the investment of a couple of hundred dollars to keep the sound. I have read much about impedance matching being important and I assume that anything in the signal path can somewhat flavor the sound. that is what makes different components sound different, these cables lie in the singal chain as well, they thus can affect the sound, makes sense to me... BTW Killer it was Elvis who turned me onto Cardas cables! Warm regards and enjoy the hobby, tony This message has been edited by sunnysal on 07-03-2002 at 02:10 PM
  4. where I live Ed, earthquake foundation, is a REAL issue! LOL! I am shopping now for the Darumas...but in sets of three? doesn't match neatly with the feet on my CD changers....hmmmmm.
  5. while removing the access door to my woofers (don't ask me why...lol) I gave a small tug to the wires and POP! the little masonite strip that holds the terminals to the woofer frame broke right off! it did not detach the wires from the woofer itself but now they just dangle there perilously...I used electrical tape to fasten it back to the frame temporarily but it looks to me like the only real repair is a new woofer...am I right? or should I just leave it until failure and then replace it? do I need to replace woofers in matched sets, or just the one? why does klipsch make the wires too short to remove the door and set it on the floor? on mine you have to hold the door in the air with one hand, to keep from yaking the internal connections while doing whatever it is you plan to do inside (again don't ask...lol) with the other...bad product planning, no? thanks for the advice, feedback.. warm regards, tony ------------------ *1993 K-Horns w/ ALK x-overs*Marantz 7T preamp*Dynaco MkIV monoblocks (modded to triode)*Sony CDP-CX350 and CX-230 CD changers*MSB link DACIII (96k upsampling)*MSB silver digital director (for switching and jitter reduction)*Technics M-85 professional Cassette Deck*SAE MK VIII tuner*Luxman PD-272 turntable, Grado Red cartridge*Cardas Crosslink speaker cable*Monster M550i for all interconnects*Monster HTS3500 Reference Powercenter Conditioner This message has been edited by sunnysal on 07-03-2002 at 10:40 AM
  6. Kris, here are my two cents... first of all go used...either from a dealer like audioclassics or from a carefully selected seller on audiogon or Ebay... some units I have heard and think are good in that range ($1,500 or a little bit more) would be: Audible Illusions Modulus 3A BAT VK3 or VK5 CJ PV 10 or 12 McIntosh C15 (a great SS unit with tone controls) the top of the line SS ADCOM got great reviews and lists for $1,500... not knowing what features you are looking for it is hard to reccomend "my favorite"...If you hunt hard you might find a Marantz 7C (my dream preamp) for less than $2k, now THAT would be fabulous! warm regards, tony This message has been edited by sunnysal on 07-03-2002 at 10:26 AM
  7. damn ed! now you have forced me to get out there and try the Darumas! if you can really hear the difference I am sure I will too....tweaks, tweaks, tweaks, a few more and I will be spiraling towards a divorce! regards, tony
  8. thanks! I will read that article...very interesting...tony
  9. Great pairing! I used a Mac MA6400 integrated for a while with my Khorns...too damn powerful but great dynamic sound! no noise either! I would bet the older tube units will sound absolutely fantastic the 240 perhaps? regards, tony
  10. I thought I saw somewhere that he used an amp from "Brooks"...a 2A3 unit? surely someone remembers that! tony
  11. B-Boom, It would be a great public service (and could even be a little side business) to take your binder, combined with ither issues collected from other B-Board users (like good2bhome) scan and publish them either on the web in html or on a CD...please think about doing it. regards, tony
  12. or hold off until christmas and buy one of those neat new Project "kidney" TTs...a mid-level grado cartridge...black cube...all set to go...
  13. for the rat hole shopping list: record clamp good record cleaning machine SAE 5000a click and pop machine better cartridge better tone arm cable better phono preamp aaasrrgghhhhhh....
  14. well....got my 1994 K-horns for $1,500 and a used JBL subwoofer...best deal I ever made! Tony
  15. Randy, I suggest you don't play ANY more LPs...if you do you might realize what many havem that records sound better than CDs!...sucks doesn't it? is it measurable? I doubt it, but just like we react favorably to tiny watt SET rigs, we seem to react favorably to LPs...surface noise, etc. but they sound great! alive!...the frustrating thing is I have alomost a thousand CDs collected...grrrr...now back to finding out how to make my rig (complete with CD changers) sound better....warm regards, tony
  16. hey john, did you know if you take a few of your daughter's Barbies and sit them in provocative poses on a coffee table, then adjust their heads very, very carefully so that they all "look" at you, you can get a very wierd "you are there" kind of feeling goin' kind of like "dad's attending a really cool tea party" LOL! 17. 1. What Heritage speakers have you owned, currently own, or want to own? Owned a pair Heresy in College 1980-85 (five year plan, lol) and bought a pair of K-Horns in 1994 2. What was your age when you first purchased a Heritage series loudspeaker? 19 the first time, 33 the second time 3. What is your current age? 40 4. Why did you choose Heritage loudspeakers over another Klipsch model? the dynamics, clarity at high levels (especially important during the college parties) 5. If you currently own some Heritage loudspeakers, and could purchase some more Klipsch speakers(new or used), which ones would you purchase? Why? make a HT usinf refernce line, I might fill out the heritage system for HT by adding a Belle as center Channel and a couple of la scalas or heresys for suround duty... 6. Do you think the upcoming Jubilee should become part of the "Heritage" line, since it was also designed by PWK? Absolutely!!!!! no doubt whatsoever warm regards, tony
  18. Slider, My advice is this; Be patient and save up a little more until you make the $100 threshhold. I know it's hard to wait (we all want things right away) but the difference in sound quality from $25 to $100 in headphones is enormous! I have two pairs of phones right now a pair of Grado SR-80 (which is slightly more expnesive than the SR-60s but have bigger earpieces and are thus more comfortable) and a pair of Sennheiser HD-600s...the HD-600s are better headphones, more audiophile values present, but let me tell ya...the little Grados sound pretty darn good too, I have them in my bedroom and I don't feel like I am missing anything re: the HD-600s...So please suffer throught iwht some walkman earbuds until you have scraped together enough cash for the Grados...you will not be dissapointed!...warm regards, tony
  19. I have had many, many speakers over the years. My K-horns provide my the best aural images I have had to date...deep and wide images appear from almost all my recordings...regards, tony
  20. I was listeing to my stereo all weekend, forgot about the internet...! "james brown, live at the apollo"...brought to life via k-horns, dynaco mkIVs and a Marantz 7T preamp...audio bliss in Central America....
  21. Big maggies, or perhaps a pair Martin Logans...if I won the lottery I might go for revel studios...but then I'd have to swap for big amps...hmmm, stay with horns? the unos...warm regards, and long live Klipsch!, tony
  22. Congrats on a great basement theater!...the images shown look great! is the projected image as good as you expected? what would you do differently if you had the chance to do this a second time? again, fabulous room! regards, tony
  23. my question is...what kind of music do you like to listen to and at what volume...a 300B or 2A3 based kit with your heresy speakers will not pump out techno, A/C D/C or other big bass, big volume music. Jazz emsembles, chamber music, piano, these sound absolutely fabulous SET...if you want some tube "smoothness" but if want to rock out I would suggest a good hard listen to PP EL34 units...like the ST-70, Eico units, Leak or any Scott, Heathkit, etc. etc....a world of fun out there pn ebay for vintage stuff...let us know the music, we can suggest the amp...regards, tony
  24. well al this weekend I will experiment a little with the setting s and let you know what I think...as if it really matters! lol!...regards, tony
  25. THANKS RANDY, I WILL GO LOOK AT AUDIOGON NOW...Wish me luck!...tony
