Gotcha. I am not familar with all of TAD so just wanted to be sure. (they sure sound nice don't they?) Did you get yours ??? -
Could this same mod work for the Jubs ??

Is it enough that you would not need to add a sub ?

Should I trade my Cornwalls for La Scalas?
whatever55 replied to jeff spicoli's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I say YES do it...........then buy or build a nice sub, if diy you don't need to spend alot, $250 for drivers and nice wood, a little more $100-$150 if you need an amp for the sub, and that will be plenty sub for a BIG room. There many different subs you could build, I gave you a price on one like I use, it will work for a big room, it keeps up with MWM's easily in a 24' x 36' room, I don't ues it at half volume with a little 170 wpc plate amp. LaScalas + sub = So I take it your subs would also keep up with Jubs ? How low do they go and where could I find the plans . Right now I am using a RSW-15 -

"5) You might think about later adding horn-loaded subwoofers to add back the octave below 32 Hz that the Jubs really won't produce. It's a big upgrade - and DIY horn subwoofer designs can be had for $500US total cost to you (assuming US prices on Tang Band drivers). You'll need access to a table saw, a hand drill, and good 18mm Baltic Birch. You'll also need about two 300-500 W SS amps to drive the horn subwoofers. The Crown XTi series amps have built-in PEQ and crossover filters (48 dB/octave L-R!) for a low price (less than $400US)." Chris, Could you provide some more information..... 2 subs or just one ? How about the Danley kit ? Thanks

Anyone know who has it ? What does it cost to ship empty ? / full ?

Did not know where to post this hear..... Frank Gow ( salesman with Audio Classics ) son of Gordon Gow (McIntosh fame) passed away yesterday in his Binghamton NY home, He was a great person to deal with. Everything that would make you want to go back for another purchase, Everything you would expect from a person with integrity. R.I.P. Frank

Just part of the discussion... Like when we talk about modifking a Khorn or Belle... Not good or bad or anything to take offense at.

So the 402 limits the TAD ? Then the 402 would also limit other drivers as well ( EVDH1A, K69 etc ) Have you listened to them ???

A time-aligned top end - Part II

I thought it might help to extract the data in a different form to help view what this horn/driver is doing. I used the fairly standard 6db down point as a reference point to reach these polar angles derived from the published polar graph. FREQUENCY HORIZONTAL VERTICAL 400hz 100 degree 120 degree (approx) 1250hz 80 degree 80 degree 3150hz 54 degree 44 degree 6300hz 45 degree 25 degree 10000hz 38 degree 26 degree 12500hz 28 degree 16 degree 20000hz 44 degree 40 degree Basically you have a horn/driver that collaspes it's polars in both the Horizontal and Vertical planes. mike tn "Basically you have a horn/driver that collaspes it's polars in both the Horizontal and Vertical planes." I think that's exactly what you would expect from anything but a constant-directivity horn. It's one of the criteria used to pick the crossover frequency. You pick it where the directivity patterns are similar between the two horns and drivers being crossed if you can. OK Looks good but does anyone have similar info on ... say the 402 or 510 to do a comparison..... or any idea what they would look like ? Thanks -

So you're saying the $500 system is NOT crappy, but the only reason an audiophile won't like it is because it's not crazy/unique enough? No ... it is because it is only $500..... now if you spent that for an audio grade, gold plated, hi freq. fuse..... you got sumpin' there. [:'(] -
Styro foam cups.... try these http://www.oregondv.com/CableElevators.htm A quote from a web site.... A recent customer that had purchased a set our cable stands has sent us back this feedback, validating what our customers are finding. "I just got the speaker cable stands via UPS and installed them in my system. I must say that the noise floor dropped significantly. I have a pair of Magnepan Tympani 4a's that require significant amounts of power. I have a McCormack DNA-1 powering the woofer panels. There has been quite a bit of white noise and a low level hum coming from the woofer panels. I have tried just about everything to get rid of it. I am using an active crossover with sensitivity adjustments. I have tried to tweak that repeatedly with little success. Once I got my IC (7meters long) from the preamp to the crossover up off the floor with your speaker stands just about all of the noise and most of the hum disappeared....amazing. The sound is definitely more holographic and placement of instruments more defined." And another........ "I must say I am floored at the increase in clarity and leading edge transients with the stands in place. Like wow. I would not have believed it."

A time-aligned top end - Part II

I think this horn is going to work well with the Jubilee, we'll know more soon enough. Beauty of the Jubilee, is not having to cross down at 400hz this opens the door to a much larger selection of capable drivers.Currently there is one set of Eliptrac 400's being tested, I am shipping the second set out next week. In the search for possible Drivers for use with the Eliptracs, I have run across a few I think might work well 2-way. 1. JBL 2446 500-20k..................$527ea Tried and true driver $$$ 2. P-Audio BMD-750 500-18K $189ea Reviewed by many, is said to require lots of EQ for 2-way 3. Selenium D-408Ti 400-20k $240ea Graph looks promising, few reviews 4. Radian 760NEO 500-20k $299ea Graph looks promising. How about the K-69... or the EV DH1A -

my main interst is to use it for the top half of a jubilee. so it does not have to fit anything other that sit on top. -

I was thinking more along the lines of 500-600hz for Lascala and Belle and go 2-way or Coaxial. I'll have to take come measurements.Dave Why not make it like the first... down to 400 ? -
I have a question about refinishing a 402. If one was to repaint a 402 what kind of finish should I use or not use.... Very smoothe and shiney or rough like bedliner ?
