    What I Got Today!

Congratulations on both the new job and the early Christmas present. Enjoy!
  2. Very clean. Have two HK pieces myself. Enjoy!
  3. Yeah major bummer derrick! There was a guy up in Canada (Vladimir) that use to ship turntables with the platters unsecured and wadded newspaper for packing. Yikes!
  4. I remember when Coytee was planning a jube fest at his place. I said that bluesboy and I were going to attend and OB responded "Tar if you and bluesboy will be there I'll make it somehow.....maybe hitch a ride with jacksonbart." I'm going to have to go buy a "rolling rock" to raise in his honor. What a huge personality!
  5. Here is a close up of horn support and a photo of the top hat adjusted to one side. Hope this helps.
  6. Do you have any other pics of it so I can see how it is supported from the front? Just trying to see what options there are for connecting the horn to the bass bin. Ellis you may have seen this. These bass bins were built from 1" MDF not a cut down LS. The horn support is not attached to the bass bin allowing me to reposition the top hat as needed. Altec 511B horns, 902 drivers, Beyma tweets. "old school".... A pivoting pistol grip support is attached to the hole in the Altec flange allowing a little height adjustment to the mid and tweets.
  7. Got it hooked back together. The two R2Rs sound great. The phono section has a bit of noise so I am hoping it is the 12AX7 since I don't have a 12FQ7 handy. The 12AX7 was a used Telefunken so that is my guess. We will see. Took out the telefunken and plugged in a new Tung Sol. Noise still. Took out the 12FQ7 and noticed it was an old Sylvania. Hit the pins with deoxit and that helped. No noise now unless you turn the volume way up. You know when you plug in something different and/or new and it sounds better? That's where I am. Thinking now I'll stick with the QS amps and preamp....
  8. Okay....this is what you do when you're retired with nothing else pressing and a few minutes on your hands. I unhooked the refurbished HK A500 amp. The Quicksilver Audio preamp has been sitting in the corner unplugged for months while the JM Blueberry stretched it's legs. So I cleaned it and used some Deoxit on all switches and then took the QS horn monos to the shelf for a polish and shine. Got fired up to put the preamp back into rotation after reading a 2005 review of this unit. Much talk about how fine the phono stage is. When all is back together I may spin a disc or two......
  9. Thanks Wrinkles and you prompted me to give a word of caution about Blu-ray discs. Do not attempt to resurface Blu-ray discs. You can polish but don't sand or it will be unplayable. CDs and DVDs okay.....just not Blu-ray!
  10. Thad.....tell dtel's wife that Tarheel said "hey" and wishes them well. Heard from bluesboy.....he attended the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and was a vendor displaying his record storage units. He told me about some of it including the $100,000 speakers he heard and the cables at $300/ft. Gotta run UPS just delivered a package from a forum member to the north of me. What could it be?
  11. No LS lls here but since you are two hours away stop by and listen to my home brew LS/Altec speakers. Thinking about the bass porting modification and need to talk with Marvel (Bruce).....think he did that.
  12. Hi back derringmusik. I don't have experience with either of those products though Mapleshade has released some other products that I have tried such as fine quality in house jazz and blues recordings. Just read the ad for the Mapleshade disc polish....."like lifting a blanket from your speakers" come on Pierre you can do better than that If you have some discs that need work I will be happy to take them to the library here and give them my "special" treatment which includes double polishing. Perhaps someone here has tried the two products you mentioned. By the way thank you for researching the Victor Talking Machine that I own......very good information!
  13. Almost the exact words Mike Sanders with Quicksilver Audio said answering a question about why he built the QS Horn Monos. He built the horn monos for friends listening with horns who objected to the noise of high gain amps. The horn monos are dead quiet. I just re read the interview Sam Tellig did with Sanders. Did a google search "stereophile/Quicksilver Horn Monos". Yes I own a pair.
  14. Thanks for the link Gill. Just read the reviews and most were very positive. Not a bad price when you consider ten saved CDs or DVDs would pay for the resurfacing machine. Just forwarded your post and link to a friend. I still volunteer at the library resurfacing discs so I polish up some of my own from time to time. Even if they are not scratched the cleaning/polishing keeps them sparkling. Recently cleaned/resurfaced some disc that a friend owned that were damaged. He could not find replacements so I gave them a spin, One disc was gouged through to the label side so I'm pretty sure that one still skips but the rest cleaned up nicely.
  15. Yep....Boxx is cute but I don't think that is really him in his avatar!
  16. You sound like just the tech I'm looking for to fix my R2R
  17. That's all true Marty.....loaded and trying to get the SO warmed up. Claude....come back tomorrow....I'll talk with you then. Good luck on the wood thing Tiger! Cut-Throat is stroking his Oris horns. Martin....don't you have tubes to test? Good night gentlemen.
  18. I hope you have a great one Ben
  19. Well enough of that audio talk and hand wringing for tonight......the tubes must be warm by now.....and maybe just two fingers of Makers Mark. Cheers gentlemen!
