  1. Ditto! My two old labs had good lives and lived to be fourteen....now buried in the side yard. No pets now unless I count the two crows I'm trying to tame with twice a day feedings of bread. Named them Russell and Sheryl[] Handsome dog Thad!
  2. Ace....good to hear from you. Hope those legs/knees hold up during training. Good to see Boxx here at the bar again....getting to be a regular....we'll start saving your seat. Thanks for the email winchester....tried to reply but my reply was blocked? Ben hope you and the family are well. Where is our buddy Stew? Another short session with the new preamp this afternoon. Think its a keeper. Just sunday bluesboy and I were speculating if there could be an improvement over the Quicksilver preamp with its really nice phono section. Well there is for sure. My bud Oldbuckster once questioned me when I was going on about my new HK A500 and how I thought it sounded better than my horn monos. He was right. Maybe it was not better....just different. Anyway...I like the BBX. I like the sound particularly the clarity, the layout, the appearance (black face). Its a little larger than the QS and does not have outlets on the rear nor does it have a mute button (no biggie to me). The tape loop sounds better. Listening to a tape of Neil Young "Live at the Phillmore East" I've never heard it sound as clear and open. The mm phono section is very good for a preamp in this price range....Emmy Lou's voice sounds perfect. The preamp is dead quiet at idle and paired with the horn monos (also very quiet) when you hear the music start its from a black background. Its' an extremely good value. I suggest that we get Mark Deneen to end his retirement and start producing more great gear. And thanks to forum member TK49 for making the transaction a pleasure and preserving this little gem. Cheers gentlemen!
  3. Ace......congrats on the job and good luck with training. When you get back ...drinks are on you. The new to me preamp arrived. Hooked it up this afternoon and gave a quick listen. TK49 did a great job of packing and is a pleasure to deal with. Mark seems to have gotten this one right. It has cream but I'm using a mm Clearaudio virtuoso wood so no need for cream right now. I am going to mix a martini and head to the music room. Cheers gentlemen!

  7. Found a new to me retaurant last night.....Terazzo Tratoria near Wrightsville Beach. Very good and reasonable. Had some excellent chianti, flounder picatta, and a lemon filled philo dough for dessert. Bien! Other news......bought a BlueBerry Extreme with Cream and the super tube 6h30 from a fellow forum member. Hope to send my QS Full Function Preamp to Craig for some souping up and then decide which one to keep. I have read almost everything about the BlueBerry and it all sounds good. 13. 70 degrees and sunny here, Azalea Festival weekend....10 thousand tourist dropping in. I stay close to home and avoid the crowd. Absolut vodka with a drop of tonic and a slice of lime. Have talked with Stew and offered to do the surgery with Dr. Winchester assisting but apparently Stew wants a second opinion[] Ace.....you are now employed I hear so pick up my tab this weekend if you will. Spring has sprung here buds. 80 GG Gerbing azaleas in bloom! Tannoy westminsters on audiogon for $16,500 if anyones interested. Winchester....how about a loan?
  14. Hey Stew.....I think winchester and I can do that surgery.....doesn't look too hard. Meet us after happy hour friday and tell us where to look for the rotator and we will give it a shot[]
  15. Dissappointing chili bone and pricey. I expected pricey but they don't seem to have all the bugs worked out. A table of four near us were complaining that others who arrived after they did were already served. Potential for some good food there is apparent but the execution on our orders fail short.[] I prefer Marc's on Market, Jerrys, Portland Grill and for a lot less money Bonefish Grill.
  16. [Y][][<)] Way to go Ace! Take the little guy out for [pi]
  17. bluesboy built the one in his photo. He may be willing to sell you his or build you one. He is here in Wilmington.
  18. Is that unit solid state? Still have the tube warmth? Nice day here. Been trying to get a reservation at a restaurant named Catch for three weeks. They called with a cancellation for 6:00pm....a bit early but were gonna take it. A very tempting Juicy Music Blueberry with cream and the super tube on audiogon. I am torn between making an offer or sending the QS Full Function Preamp out for some hotrodding at a third the price. Sending the HK500A off to Craig for a going over. Cheers buds.....seems a lot like spring here. What do I use to get rid of carpenter bees? Swarms here mating but soom to be attacking my cedar facia.
  19. Cheers back to you JB. Off Friday as well. Have one on me. Having a Knob Creek on the patio. Got Thebe's loaner tubes off yesterday. Keeping the Bugle Boys in the Jolida 100 CDP and the telefunkens in the preamp. A check and the remaining tubes on the way to Virginia. Thanks very much Martin! Stew.....hope you and fini are on the mend. Ben go easy on that ginger ale[] Ace....hope you are gainfully employed and not just working. Winchester.....how about a gear update? Cheers gentlemen!
  20. Yep. But it wouldn't be the same without you. Happy anniversary bud[Y]
  21. A nice day weatherwise clouding over just now. Two neighbors stopped by and sat for awhile and shared gossip, a knobs creek, and some Powell and Stokes Blister Fried Peanuts. Tennessee lost.....Baylor ahead of Duke. Wife fixing oxtails and a rich sauce to put over pasta with a nice glass of red. Then off to the music room to listen to some Mapleshade jazz discs. Hope all the regulars are well. Where is Ben?
  22. Took your advice fini. Emailed Craig and he promptly replied telling me of another tube that could be used in place of the scarce 7355! He even gave me the link and told me the tubes are inexpensive. Ordered a quartet of matched tubes from PartsExpress for less than $50.00! Thanks fini.....and many thanks to Craig. Welcome back Stew.....thought you might have been having some decaf tea with Ben[] Good of JB to stop by and dust off his bar stool. Sunny, windy and 60 degrees here. Will be having some Knob Creek on the rocks in a little while and dinner at the Bonefish Grill later and maybe a little Chet Baker on the hifi afterwards. Life in the slow lane but thats about as wild as this boy gets these days[] Cheers gentlemen!
