  1. I've been having problems with Stihl, Echo, and Poulan gas powered yard equipment. The carburetor in the Stihl blower had do be rebuilt after 6 months of use. The shop said the culprit is my fuel...gas with ethanol. Two shops cautioned me about this saying ethanol dissolves the rubber engine parts and gums up the carburetor. Now not all gas has ethanol but not all pumps are so marked either. My rather expensive solution is to buy premixed gas in 32 oz cans for $3.99. Works well in all my equipment and contains a fuel stabelizer and the 50-1 mix. Rather pricey. Anyone else have this ethanol problem?
  2. A couple of Stoli Martnis after a long day cleaning up in the yard after our ice/snow storm[] After an unusal amount of rainfall the ground was so saturated the ice brought down several wax myrtles. $44 to get the chain saw ready and several hours of sawing and dragging to the road for pick up. At week 3 of the Atkins diet and all the glycogen long burned off from the liver I have incredible energy for an old guy. Actually dog tired but can't sit down. We made it to 60 degrees and it was good to be out in the fresh air. Sunday bluesboy and I will be taking down a dead tree at his house and then listening to the tubes that Thebes is letting me try out. And now that you know what I did....lets here about your day[] Winchester....bummer about the BK.....[Y] on the sushi. Cheers gentlemen!
  3. 1949 vintage here. I remember when the penny slot was added to drink machines. Outrageous.....drinks were now 6 cents. You could still get a carton of six Pepsis for a quarter at the grocery store. Remember Suncrest orange, Teem, RC Cola. Pouring salted peanuts in your Pepsi. Little League baseball....fretting all day over a rained out game. Throwing a baseball on to the roof and catching it as it rolled down when you had no one else to play catch with. Playing pick up games on the vacant lot...from early morning till dinner time. Stealing water melons. Hitch hiking 4 miles to Wrightsville Beach wearing nothing but cut off jeans.....standing on the white stripe to keep your feet from burning. Mowing lawns in the neighbor hood for a dollar. Watching Bonanza which followed the Dinah Shore show on Sunday nights. Amos and Andy, Flash Gordon, Highway Patrol, Little Rascals, Rawhide...some great acting[] Gas wars....bought gas for 17.9 cents. I'd pull up to the pump in my TR-3 and get a dollars worth of Hi-Test. A little dab of Brylcream in your hair, yellow socks, Calypsos, seersucker shirts with matching belts and billfolds....man we were stylish. Rarely remember going to a restaurant for dinner. No cooking on a grill....steaks in a frying pan[:S] Well thats my trip down memory lane.....the 60s were a great time to grow up.
  4. Darn fini....hang in there bud. You're in the construction business aren't you. My bud bluesboy also in construction has problems with carpel tunnel syndrone. Gotta love the cortisone shots. Good to see you at the bar. This is the place to talk it all through....kindred spirits here. Having a Stoli martini....heavy on the olives. Cheers gentlemen!
  5. I'd do 'er. Hell Scott....you'd do a snake if someone held its head[]
  6. Who is that quiet guy at the end of the bar. Has a tan so he must be from somewhere warm[] Good luck with the job Ace! Get well soon Ben. Haven't been sick this winter but its not too late. Welcome to a couple new faces here at the bar....give Stephen and fini a drink on me. Get that system tweaked winchester and I'll stop by some time in the spring. Cheers gentlemen!
  7. Hey Mike....as the reviewer of the VPI Scout turntable in Stereophile magazine said "Holy mother of crap". My sentiments exactly. I was wrong before when I said I never saw a need to change out the stock tubes in my Jolida. Now I see why. As Frank said it opens up the bottom and top ends. My 61 year old ears could hear the difference! Played Shangrila by Mark Knopfler..... track Back to Tupelo and was mesmerized. Stoked....you bet and this is just the first pair of tubes. Marty I got the package when I got home from work and immediately opened up the preamp and CD. Couldn't wait to get started....and its only Tuesday!
  8. Hey Frank. Those Bugle Boys sound mighty fine....hate to take them out to try others so they may stay for an extended listen. Yes those tiny phillips head screws are so small you have to use a very small screw driver but are in so tight I didn't have the leverage to break them free. Used a little WD-40. My plan is the 5751s following the BBs and then the Mullards and Telefunkens. No particular reason.
  9. Howdy Gman.....yes Mr. Thebes sent a pair of RCA Black Plate(?) 5751s. Will try those in the CDP and then the Mullards. Having a blast! I'm leaving the cover off the CDP and the little tube coolers(?) off as well. Think that will effect anything?
  10. Got a very nice package of tubes from Marty today. Rolled a Telefunken 12AX7 into the line amp slot in the Quicksilver preamp and 2 Amperex Bugle Boys in the Jolida 100 CDP. Immediately realized I should have changed one component at a time....maybe later. I hear a more musical, detailed and sonically pleasing sound versus the new Tung Sol tubes I was using. I'm certainly not good at describing what I hear but that much overused phrase "like a veil was lifted" comes to mind...but I won't use that[:S] I've got to listen to each pair of tubes for at least a couple of hours after warm up to try to remeber the sound before rolling the Telefunken, Mullards, RCAs, and some others I can't remember. It was a little difficult removing the case from the Jolida and the tiny screws were trying to strip but I eventually won the battle. This has been a lot of fun and Marty is most generous to allow me use of these fine tubes. Thanks Marty.
  11. Welcome to the forum vivavinyl. A very helpful first post!
  12. Good deal Gman[Y] Don't you love it when an upgrade works out?
  13. A nice sunny day...cold but sunny. Bluesboy came by to help me cut up some wax myrtles that came down from the snow and ice. The chain saw wasn't working well so we did one tree and called it a day. Wife is still away so I got into the Jack Black and spun some vinyl. Bluebird by EL Harriss sounded wonderful. The telefunken tube in the phono section sounds mighty fine. Waiting on a shipment of tubes from my buddy Thebes to roll some in the Jolida CD player. Hope everyone had as good a day!
  14. This Old House, Survivor, Biggest Loser, Man Vs. Wild, Ask This Old House. Not much else....really!
  15. It's a Girl!!! Yes it is and a mighty pretty one! Congrats! Another tarheel native!
  16. Three inches of snow....no road equipment....milk, bread flying off the shelf, the City is shut down. What will we ever do? Oh..thats right its getting up to 50 tommorrow....never mind....we will be okay! I knew if I went out I would see some bozo in a short sleeved shirt and sure enough a woman in medical scrubs with short sleeves......only in the South[8-)]
  17. Welcome to the forum tysonm......Mike Tyson backwards?
  18. Hey Ben...you have a new avatar! Yes this one was busted up good. A new CD by American Aquarium. CD plays fine! Let it snow....let it snow[]
  19. Having a Jack Black myself.....trying to forget about work. No evidence that worrying makes it better....so cheers! Snow is on its way for this little coastal village I call home. Doesn't happen here often. Wife is out of town... steak is marinating and a new CD was in the mailbox today. Man that jewel case was in pieces.....they must of jumped on it several times for good measure but the CD is okay I think.
  20. Hey Stew....whats the holiday? Glad your report was good. The prep to the procedure is always fun[:S] Way to go winchester! Someone has to make that money....may as well be you! Hope you're right about the Heels. Nice picture JB.....sick of snow yet? Cheers gentlemen....check in Ace, Ben, Mike, Pesh.....Winchesters buying[]
  21. I use it as well. ADC tonearm (light carbon fiber affair) with a Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood cartridge. The Clearaudio has such an extended cantilever I am a little hesitant to use anything else but a ZeroDust. It works fine, can be washed if needed, and last forever. The ZeroDust cover is a magnifying glass for inspecting the sylus which is handy.
  22. Thebes has a pinched waist? I had no idea[:$]
  23. Yes the Heels are going through a rebuilding year and will rise again but this season has been painfull. Basil Hayden......saved the company some money so the big guy told me to take the credit card to the ABC store! Stew....bummer about the TV picture and the girlfriend! Starting week two of the Atkins Diet and have a lot of energy for an old man. Cheers guys and thanks for the drinks winchester.
