  1. A very good game. Congrats Saints fans!
  2. Congratulations Saints fans.....happy for you dtel's wife and dtel[<)]
  3. Still have the original EH 12AX7s in the Jolida. Rolled the preamp phono section to a Telefunken from a Tung Sol today. Like that change. Yes this is a great thread. You and Thebes have been a lot of help. Been thinking about Amperex Bugle Boys or Mullards for the Jolida CDP. Who has the best prices?
  4. A sunny but cold day here. You guys up north would probably call it balmy but its cold to us....remember we all dress in cotton. My Tarheels....bless their young hearts....are stinking up the court this year. Switched channels it got so bad today against Maryland. A lot of freshmen and a rebuilding year. My take is they don't have a dominant inside man and lack a 3 point shooter. Next year maybe. Superbowl.....no dog in that fight. May watch some of it. Had a couple of Basil Hayden neat and rolled the preamp phono tube.....life in the slow lane. Cheers gentlemen!
  5. The Yamamoto AO-8 is so pretty if it makes music at all thats a bonus[]
  6. A fun thread guys! Pulled out my paperwork from HotRodAudio to see what their Level 1 mod offers. "Jolida 100 CD Player" "Replace one pair RCA outputs with Cardas GRFA S Thick, using 22 awg solid silver wiring, Install Starrdamp CS inside chassis and lid (vibration damping), Install Russian Electroharmonix x2 12AX7 vacuum tubes, upgrade power supply with Stealth Diodes. Install KTS IsoDamp discs for isolation." Includes shipping. They further reccommend that the interconects be replaced and suggest VeraStarr Silver Reference silver over copper. The supplied power cord is an inexpensive piece that also should be replaced[] Looks like a lot of these upgrades could be done on a stock unit for not a lot of money....but buying new for $940 shipped why bother? "Remember that using the digital output on the Jolida you will bypass the tube ouput and not realize the full potential" Now back to the tube talk....seems like I could do better than the EH 12AX7s. Had to roll something so I pulled the new Tung sol out of the phono imput slot on the Quicksilver preamp and plugged in a Telefunken.....let it warm up for a couple hours....bien. The John Brown track on Dylan's Unplugged sounded might fine.
  7. You're on a roll fini[] Did I just say roll?
  8. A prolific poster who dropped out of sight. Where are you?
  9. You're a wild and crazy guy Ben[] Need to send you a package again soon! Winchester, Congrats on the diet....thats and impressive feat. Italian suits.....I would live happily ever after if I never wore a suit again....did that for awhile and I look terrible in them. And ties have to be the devils invention. Stew..good news on the taxes[:S] JL....good to see you drop by....what are you drinking? Put the next one on winchester's tab. Ace....your bar stool has been dusty lately. Whats up with the job search? This economy concerns me guys.....so I'm going to pour a long shot of Basil Hayden! Cheers
  10. Tell me about your weight loss plan winchester....185 sounds light but you may be 4'7" for all I know[] I'm on day 3 of my old standby....the Atkins diet. Need to lose the same ten I lossed last year[:S] Good deal on the VRDs. Tell Craig they sound almost as good as Tarheel's Quicksilver Horn Monos[] Cheers gents!
  11. Thanks for the offer. I'll check my stash and pm you.
  12. Good info gartenman...thanks. I have heard the 5751s reccommended before for the Jolida cdp. I believe they were GE tubes. I'll go dig through my supply of 12AT7 and 12AX7s and see what I have.
  13. Hope USNRET won't mind but while we are pinging Gartenman how do you like the Mullards in your Jolida? Any improvement over the original tubes?
  14. Thanks again gentlemen. Bluesboy and my 82 year old bud Rolf came by today. We had a couple of Modelo beers and some single malt scotch to chase down the buffalo wings I made. Listend to Dire Straits Brothers in Arms and Bob Dylan Unplugged. Played my new Tom Waits Orphans CD and the new American Aquarium CD. Rolf promptly fell asleep as 82 year old are apt to do. Bluesboy and I talked equipment as we always do and our dream systems when we win the lottery. I settled for Palladiums in one corner and Tannoy Westminsters in the other. Fun to dream. Sunny and cold as heck here but a good birthday weekend. Will chip away at the 7 pound prime rib again tonight. Wife is doing better....I have a little buzz.....and life is good. Cheers gentlemen!
  15. Never heard the original as mine came with the mini mod from hotrodaudio.com. I have thought about tube rolling some GE nos tubes from the 60s but never felt a strong need to upgrade. Google 6moonsaudio and read the excellent review of modded Jolidas.
  16. Thanks guys. Yes I'm old but to put things in perspective, Tina Turner is in her 70s[] and I'm in better shape than men twice my age[:^)] Somedays I feel every bit of my age and other days can't beleve I'm that old. It was a good day though the weather was nasty. Listend to some new CDs, fixed hot buttered rum and the wife cooked a huge prime rib. Fosil Rocker....I like that. If I wasn't already Tarheel that would make a nice screen name! I'll save your place Bruce and dtel can't be many years behind us.
  17. 33 degrees and a rainy...rainy Saturday afternoon. Fixing a batch of hot buttered rum to fend off the chill. Cheers to all!
  18. Welcome to the forum Brad O. A little debate is always welcome. Thanks for your imput and don't be a stranger.
  19. Thanks for the round Ace. Good to hear from you Germerican...have one on me. Hope everyone is feeling better. Knock on wood but I haven't had as much as a sniffle this year. Started taking 1200 mg of fish oil (omega 3) which supposedly slows down aging......and we all know I need that[:S] I am all also attributing that to my good health. I want my bar buddies to know first that I heard a song on Wilmington's only decent station by American Aquarium and immediately ordered everything they have on CD. The first one came today and its titled The Bible and The Bottle. The group is from Raleigh, NC. Maybe my buddy Spongeworthy has heard them live since he lives nearby. I likes them a bunch. The CD was mastered by Dave Harris at Studio B in Charlotte winchester. Took the day off.....slept all the way to 7:15am and then went to see Edge of Darkness after lunch. Making a big pan of spaghetti sauce and having a Ketel One on the rocks. Chester....looks like you are going to get snowed/iced in so stock up and drop us a line. The bar is open.....cheers gents.
  20. Thats nice....looks very clean[Y] Have to love the sound of those 60s amps.
  21. Now if we could burn a first rate copy of all the songs listed and pass it around[]
  22. An inexpensive Cabernet from Chilie. Saving the good stuff for my birthday. Hope you are doing better Stew. Congrats Ace on the new Cornwalls. Winchester....got those VRDs yet? I ride by your house every other day to see if they have been dropped off at your door.....maybe I can get them before you get home[] Hunt...Ben.....Cheers guys!
  23. Good thread bluesboy. Tom Waits Ol' '55 Neil Young Expecting To Fly Mark Knopfler The Ragpicker's Dream Over The Rhine Jesus In New Orleans Diana Krall Boulevard of Broken Dreams
  24. [D][<)][^][G] Happy Birthday Ace!
