  1. Three tomato plants on the patio in containers....many tomatos but won't turn red. Whats up with that? Have "harvested" about 5 but they are taking their time getting ripe. I ask my wife mornings if she has checked the crops yet.....we are real farmers[]
  2. Got a picture with the wolf and Don together?
  3. Had to go upstairs and look at my 165. Its been awhile since I've looked it over and except for the dust cover it looks pretty good! I agree with Scott that it may be a good way to start without spending a bundle. I turned my tt over and looked at the base....if that is veneer....it is very, very, thin veneer. The bottom cover is pressboard. Good to know that the ground wire is built into the RCA cable but that also makes me wonder where the hum was coming from? Go look at it. Play it or see if you can take it home and hook it up.....maybe leave a deposit....then decide if you want it. I would think that if its in near mint condition it would be a buy.
  4. Tom....like you I was unfamiliar with the TD-165 and thought from the pictures I saw on ebay that the base was wood. The vinyl on mine has started to curl in a couple of places and I was actually thinking of getting Bluesboy to build a new base out of solid wood. If the vinyl on the one you are looking at is secure then it looks good enough. The dust cover on mine is not in good shape and I would not use it in my system if I ever did move forward with the base project. The main reason I did not use mine is the hum from not having a ground wire. Its probably a simple fix but like I said I soon upgraded. I found a reworked Denon DP-1250 in mint condition and have been very happy with it. Let me know if you need parts or cartdridges and maybe I will part mine out. You will be able to tell the general condition when you go to check it out. See if they will play it for you. Chuck
  5. I have one upstairs sitting idle that I bought from a guy in Canada through ebay three years ago. The base on mine is simulated wood grain (vinyl stick on) that I think looks cheap. The dust covers almost always crack where hinged. There was no grounding wire on the one I bought and I hear a noticeable hum. Played it a few times and then upgraded. The arm, platter, mat, and plinth were in good shape. If you can get good pictures and inquire about cueing and grounding it may be worth $100. Maybe someone can tell us the difference in the TD-160 and the TD-165. The 160 seems to be a popular tt.
  6. MeLovesKhorns posted about 20 hours ago over on 2 channel.....did'nt mention the flood. Very hot here today already with high humidity.....got the yard work done.....and now its clouding up.....we need some rain....yeah....it just started as I was typing this. Still have'nt heard from some of the Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma guys......how are you fairing?
  7. Very good story Thebes. My first "official" date was when I was in the seventh grade. Took Maclyn to the junior high dance....mother driving us....can't remember if I said a word to her the whole way there. The dance the twist was the rage and the dj had Chubby Checker cued as we arrived. After an awkward first few minutes I asked her if she would like to dance. Maclyn replied...."my mother told me I could'nt do the twist". Keep in mind this was the era when many adults thought Elvis was vulgar for gyrating his hips as he performed. So Maclyn and I danced the slow ones and I twisted the night away with other girls. She did'nt seem to mind but then again...there was no goodnight kiss[]
  8. If we are all okay with the word flooding.....I can edit the thread title again[]
  9. Incredible....never saw it coming!
  10. Happy birthday Bill[<)][^][G][D]. Hope it is a great one. Oh....to be 46 again.
  11. Happy 4th back to you Buck. The flags are flying and a guy at work bought $1500 worth of fireworks!!!! Thanks for the well wishes from our Canadian friend. Any special plans for the day?
  12. There mas...I edited the thread title just for you. For those of you in the midwest that are suffering flooding we are equally concerned about your safety. Mas fasten your seatbelt and buy adequate flotation devices.....someone is watching you.
  13. Just watched the national news coverage of the flooding and it looks bad. Showed the evacuation of an animal clinic.....got the last dogs and cats out just as the temporary dike failed. Here I am dragging the hose around the yard because of drought conditions. Trying to give all the grass and plants at least 15 minutes of water to keep them alive. Glad to hear your situation is tolerable oldtimer.....best of luck.
  14. I hope all of our forum buds in Texas and Oklahoma are fairing well with the incessant rain, flooding and now oil spills. Check in when you can guys and give us an update. Wardsweb, Travis, Arthurs, WPM, Oldtimer and others that I can't recall just now.....be safe.
  15. No problem Buck.....mentioned it to my wife last night....she is not a big music lover....matter of fact the 60s did'nt even come to her small hometown. She does like to travel though so who knows. Thanks for the heads up. BTW....I was right about the rain. As soon as I came inside it stopped.
  16. Would love to do that Buck.....it will definitely be on my short list especially after your critique. I've got Dylan's Modern Times on the turntable and Dylan's unplugged on the cdp or vice versa. Stevie Ray Vaughn is up next.....let it rain and pass the snake juice[8]
  17. After an extended dry spell....finally some rain. Started at 3:00 and has been going for two hours now. Poured three fingers of single mault and have been sitting in the rocker on the front porch trying to insure that it does'nt stop. I live next to 13 acres of woods and you can hear the relief from the wildlife...birds chirping and a bull frog croaking. Afraid if I come in it will stop. So let it rain....let it rain ...let it rain.
  18. Welcome to the forum Topdogue.....your amp should be just fine with the LS lls. I use Quicksilver Audio Horn Monos with 25 wpc with my hybrid LS and don't feel I'm missing a thing. Congrats on the purchase. Give us your impressions of the LaScalas when you can.
  19. Very nice harvest! Wish you could email me the large one in the middle. Merita Old Fashion bread, Duke's mayo, Vidalia onion slab, salt and pepper.....a feast for the gods.
  20. Great review Buck....sounds like a wonderful evening.....and it was only friday night.
  21. Enjoy yourself Buck....those frosties will wait on you.
  22. Buck its about time to run that clock ahead and ice down a couple.[<)][8][O][]
  23. Come on wuzzzer.....loosen up the purse strings and buy the lady flowers.
  24. I struggle with the words to say at times like this. Words seem so trite and phrases over used but its what we have. Will Rogers said something like "the death of any man diminishes me". Thats how I feel when I hear the death toll in Iraq every night on the evening news. All these fine young men and women lost or severely injured before their lives had started good. My generation heard the same thing every night from news anchors like Chet Huntley and David Brinkley or Howard K. Smith as they gave the casualty figures each night at the end of the news. The war was Viet Nam. The count did not stop until 1975 and by then the tally was 58,000. May the war come to an end with an outcome that serves well the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. My condolences to the family and friends of this young soilder. My thoughts are with you Tommyboy. Chuck
