  1. Agreed that we need a new center channel to match the Heritage line. However, having had the privilege of auditioning an Academy for a couple months (between my KHorns), IMHO an Academy is NOT the answer. My Heresy laying on it's side provides a much better sonic match than the Academy did. While the Academy looked nicer, it's performance was lacking. Rumor has it that there may be a new Heritage center speaker in the works, but AFAIK, it hasn't been released yet.
  2. Sorry, it would never stand up in court...cruel and unusual punishment (unless the judge is a Bose owner).
  3. Plug ugly, pug ugly, whatever [] Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, EH? The "little guys" sure sound great! Apparently the neighbors like them too, cause the cops haven't shown up at the door yet. []
  4. My speakers are UGLY (and I Iove 'em) !!! [6]
  5. I've been running my H2 on it's side (as a center channel between my KHorns) for over a year now. I've tried it upright, upside down and sideways and to tell you the truth, I don't hear any remarkable differences. YMMV. Bob
  6. Steve, Congratulations to another lucky Klipsch winner! Welcome to the club. []
  7. The DV-980H is the same model I'm planning to buy. I'm going to use it strictly for CD/SACD/DVD-A playback in my audio system. It won't even be hooked to a TV. Please let us know how the audio sounds after you've had a chance to listen more. I'm especially interested in SACD / DVD-A performance. I don't own any in either format yet, but I was impressed with the one's I heard at the Pilgrimage. Thanks.
  8. Those Palladium's look pretty nice, eh? I think we've found the door prize for the next Pilgrimage. [] BTW, I'd be happy to beta test them against the Jubilees.
  9. Garrgh, knew it. lol. [] I'm going to have to stop some of these yard sales and see what's there. Sounds like you can "hit the lottery" once in a while.
  10. Well, this sucks... Received my "new" HR20-700 via FedEx today. While removing it from the box, I heard something rattling around loose inside the DVR [:'(]. I also noted that the shipping box indicated that it contained a "reconditioned" unit, not a new one. They didn't tell me I'd be getting a refurbished unit when I ordered it. I looked at the bottom of the unit to see if I could take it apart and remove the loose component, but I didn't see any screws. I decided to just leave it alone and call DTV. I talked to a rep for a few minutes, then got cut off when she put me on hold. I called back and told my whole story to another rep. She tried to get in touch with the local company that was doing my install. They thought maybe the installer could "stop at his office and pick up a replacement DVR" before he got to my house. Naturally, the installer wouldn't answer his phone,so I had to wait for him to arrive and hope he had one with him. At least I didn't get cut off while I was on hold this time, so maybe my luck is changing. for the better... About 30 minutes later, the installer arrived. I asked if his office had contacted him and he said they had not. I told him about the rattle and he asked if I wanted him to plug it in and try it anyway to see if it worked. I told him no, I wanted a replacement unit. He said I'd have to call DTV again and order the replacement. Fortunately, he was able to install the new "5 LNB" dish and have it work with my "old" box until the replacement DVR arrives. At least I won't need to take more time off work to get the install finished. I'll be able to replace the box and get it activated myself. Another 40 minute call to DTV and I THINK they finally understood what the problem was and agreed to send me a replacement unit. When I asked the rep if they could send me a new unit instead of a refurbished one, she said I'd have to pay $299 if I wanted a new one. I told her to just send me another refurbished one ($19.95 shipping), credit my first shipping charge, and pay for the return of the defective unit. During our conversation, she also mentioned that there would be a $300 charge if I canceled the service during the first two years; they did not tell me that when I placed the original order two days ago either.[:@] I guess I should consider myself lucky that I can at least watch TV this weekend. Maybe I'll call them again after everything is working and try to get a few months of free HBO or something for the inconvenience...[]
  11. I ordered a replacement for my two year old HR10-250 DVR and 3 LNB dish on Wednesday. My new 5 LNB dish, BBC and HR20 HD DVR will be installed tommorow. Total cost: $19.95 shipping. No contract and no increase in monthly bill, but soon to be many more HD channels. DTV said I could do whatever I wanted with the "old " DVR, so I plan to put it up on Ebay. Looks like they are selling for $100 or more there. That'll offset my cost and give me a few bucks to buy a couple new SACD's. []
  12. Half a million bucks a bottle! Wow! And I was bitching when they raised the price of Busch Lite (my personal favorite) to $13.99 / 30 - pack. [:'(]
  13. Ron, Maybe yours are different, but my Heresy 2's have the grille cloth glued to a board, and the board has "cut-outs" in it for the woofer and two horns. Can't just turn the grille upside down. Also, my Heresy sits on it's side, so I'd like to move the logo to a horizontal orientation. Bob
  14. My understanding is that the Showboat was almost ready to go belly-up because of low attendance. However, this year they decided to switch from the "Lawrence Welk" type bands that they usually have to Buckcherry, Hinder and Papa Roach. I understand that they had overflow crowds...[] I had to laugh when I heard that. Bob
  15. Indy, Out of curiosity, how do you remove the logo? Is there any glue residue left on the grille cloth once it's removed? What type of glue do you use to re-install it?
  16. Oh I will guarantee she would have considered them intrusive! [] Anyway, I'm VERY HAPPY with their performance. I don't think the sweet spot is any where near as large as I remember the 402's being at the pilgrimage, but to my ears that's the only drawback to the smaller horns. The sound quality of these 510 horns is AWESOME! I'm spending much more time listening to 2 channel than I have in many years and enjoying it immensely, especially vinyl. My old LP's never sounded so good. My next step is to get a new CD player and listen to some DVD-Audio / SACD's. I heard a couple at the Pilgrimage and they sounded pretty good. Bob
  17. Bill, Is that a safe thing to do? I wouldn't want to raise a ruckus. [] May be a good point, Bob. Send me an email. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive. Thanks!! Bill, Did you get my E-mail? Bob
  18. Yep, Bay City - that "smelly little town" to quote Madonna. (Sugar beet processing plant). Not sure how long it's been since you lived in Saginaw, but things have changed quite a bit in the last 10 years or so (and not for the better). It's amazing how much the auto industry contributed to the rise (and ultimately the fall) of our State economy. Well, at least the town has one pair of Jubilees now, so we got that going for us. []
  19. Roy, Believe me, I'm enjoying them...a lot! (The neighbors OTOH?...not sure yet, but at least the cops haven't shown up at the door. [] You guys hit a HOME RUN with this product! Thanks again for all your efforts.
  20. Bill, Is that a safe thing to do? I wouldn't want to raise a ruckus. []
  21. My 1980's Yamaha gave up the ghost. I've been looking at the soon to be released Oppo DV980. I've read some good reviews on using the DV970 as a CD player, and I think this should be as good or better. From the Oppo website: "Optimized high-fidelity audio circuitry Taking inputs from audiovisual enthusiasts and world-famous high-fidelity audio equipment partners, OPPO designed the DV-980H with a focus on precision rendering from Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio, HDCD and regular CDs. Its digital-to-analog (D/A) converters feature 192kHz high sampling rate and 24-bit resolution. The driving stage uses carefully selected op-amps and capacitors. Combining these premium components in an optimized design, the DV-980H reduces quantization distortion and accurately reproduces the analog waveform, resulting in faithful, natural, detailed and rich sound." $169 brand new. Opinions?
