  1. hey jim. its all good! my work's just been real busy. still need to stop by your place on my next trip to vail.
  2. dustin, this seems like deja vu. you can eq down the peaks though for a smoother response, like i do w/ my notch filter but just for one peak around the 50hz crossover point. i agree though eq won't do much if you have bigtime nulls. i'm not big on eq at all either 'cept figured i'd use the notch filter some because its there. room work seems like the best route. i'd just like to get a new house w/ a nice big finished basement w/ the right room.
  3. sure many discs out there w/ dolby EX & dts ES 6.1 matrix & discrete (your receiver has to have the specific decoders for each of the 3). check out the appropriate release sections at www.dtsonline.com & www.dolby.com
  4. i consider my klf-30 more clear & detailed in the highs than my reference or cornwalls. some may call it bright or harsh. to each his own.
  5. "last house on left" was great. remember this scene?: ahhhhhhhh, ooooooouch!!!
  6. oh & here's the rest of the articles from that mag including the follow up in Sep/98 that has some room fixes: http://www.soundstage.com/synergize/synergize.htm
  7. vap, EQ, sub placement, & crossover settings can help some, but its mainly a factor of the room & where you listen in it. here's a site explaining sound pressure peaks & nulls: http://www.soundstage.com/synergize/synergize081998.htm
  8. ej, hey i'm from muscatine & we use to be in the mississippi valley w/ all the major CR schools (& had a 41 game losing streak in football ). did you go to wash, jeff, or kennedy? anyway, by MU i meant U of Missouri (not Moo U). Missouri is more like ISU & U of IA combined - also has a law & med school. believe U of Minnesota is similar in that regard in that its also a land granter. yea most of the ______ state U are land grants - like KS State, OK state (formerly OK A&M), wash state, etc. how'd you ever end up at NDSU? i know a lot of people from CR from ISU.
  9. clu, sounds like just had a lucid dream. like klipsch cryonics.
  10. wow, now that i look at that sunfire it has specs like a krell. doubles the wattage into 4ohms & 2 ohms. definitely looks like power. anybody know the damping factor? probably at least 500. i got my b&k 7270 new for about $2200 discounted. if this could be had for around $3k looks great on paper anyway. has balanced inputs & 2 sets of posts for each channel too. also their prepro looks real good. i hadn't really looked at sunfire before because it was above my budget for amp & prepro.
  11. clu, i have a russound a/b thanks to a tip from keith way back. great box. but these days you can run about everything off these newer receivers & prepros. unless one wants to use 2 dif receivers or preamps. 1st, w/ a $4k budget you might also want to look at seperates. like my b&k set-up (both prepro & 7 channel amp) i got new for around $4k discounted. many other combos around that range or under new like outlaw, rotel, etc.
  12. clu, that less has a dirty mind.

    THX material:

ex at first was a joint collaboration between dolby & thx. but now they seem to have gone their seperate ways - you can see either thx ex or dolby ex. f.e., "we were soldiers" is dolby ex. they're basically the same as far as encoding anyway as it was dolby that worked out the code in the 1st place. & whether you run 6.1 or 7.1 speakers shouldn't decrease the power. if an amp or receiver is rated 7X200 watts, all channels driven, then it should have that power to each channel whether you're driving one rear surround speak or 2.
  14. i'm lost on the visualization too. but can't you just adjust the listening position to the speaks instead on vice-versa?
  15. dave, still sounds like a ground thing but you have the trouble shooting down. if you can isolate it to a certain connection, www.jensentransformers.com has an isolator for every type connection. for zan, dave said what i would have. just try a 3:2 cheater on the ac plug of sub 1st. if that doesn't do it another interconnect. or jensen transformers above has an isolator specifically for a sub interconnect. & yeah, the hts2500 didn't do much for the audio except filter out some ac noise. try to demo one & see if its worth it. i got it mainly for the switching for the acurus amp i had at the time.
  16. av, yeah i'm trying to get justin to work on my head (he did it for me). may be hard to enlarge it & keep the qualty too. same old quantity vs quality trade-off i guess.
  17. back to the original question, why are you asking the question? what are going to do, not heat the HT garage? still gets a lil cold in portland in the winter. looks like the next investment should be some heaters.
  18. kg, are you talking speaker cable or rca terminated interconnects or both? actually, if you have an a/v receiver w/ a sub out, you should use both. use speaker cable to the ksp speaker posts w/ the posts connected w/ the straps or wire, & run an interconnect from the sub out to the lfe in of the of the powered sub sections. i found the low bass/lfe more dynamic that way. use solid core, at least double shielded quality interconnects there.
  19. dillon, yes. family crest - looks good & classy.
  20. sounds like most likely you'll discover in time that the noise/sound quality follows the material you're playing.
  21. just, you may wanna also check out iowa state aka moo U. great sports - cyclone football currently ranked 9th, greek system (was # 2 to IL when i was there), & just ranked 13th in partying by playboy (KU 8th jhawk). really though it is a competitive school. you do have to study. "cow college" i presume means any public school in the midwest. but really comes from the status of land grant that were set up at 1st for emphasis in agriculture & engineering. but if you look at Iowa State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Purdue, etc. now, they're much more multifaceted. f.e., MU is ranked real high if not the highest in journalism.
  22. sorry av. meant to tell you i caught it. that's gotta be the winner so far. cool.
  23. sorry dean. bad wording by me. monster just contracted w/ him. they never "had" him as far as i know.
  24. & make sure the horn of the rc is angled right at your head in the listening position. when you look at the horn (with the grill off) you should be looking right up or down its throat.
  25. yeah there are plenty of premade biwire cables out there at various cost levels. i have those w/ banana plugs (some were custom made by the monster dealer). great for looks & convenience. my advice is if you got biwirable speaks, at least try 'em. like jt says, experiment & let your own ears decide.
