  1. WTH?!? This goofy little thing sounds great! What a shocker. Back to listening. There are things that I don't like but amazingly, a thing or 2 that it's giving to me maybe? I have it hooked up to my modded Jolida tube CDP. It's kind of freeking me out. Go figure. More later.
  2. I thought these ran at least 10k? Where's Sheltie?
  3. This is the Nak amp I bought and have yet to try before loaning out: Nak Stasis PA-5ii 150wpc http://www.geocities.com/p9019/nakamichi/Brochures/PA-5AII_Pg01.html Yes Fini! Warehouse sales, etc.
  4. I just got Pauln's Trends from Dean and will be fireing it up today. Despite knowing the physical dimensions, it's quite a shocker as to the size of this little guy in person. Almost hard to imagine this can produce music. Even if it turns out to be not good enough for 2-channel, it sure opens up a boatload of easy peasy options - bedroom, office, outdoors, traveling, etc. etc. It's adorable. I'll be plugging it into my new Furman volt regulator/conditioner gadget for protection - running the Khorns and Jolida CDP. It would be interesting to hear it compared to a Super-T, etc. but oh well.... Minimally, I hope it's worthy of recommending to a friend who has my Nakamichi Stasis amp (and Cornwalls) on loan so I can get it back. I've never heard that darn thing in my system yet. I assume my khorns would be a good judge on if it would work on Cornwalls. No preamp needed huh? Weird.
  5. Speakerfritz - Really? Hmmm....
  6. Welcome and congrats Urizen! They look really nice. []
  7. If ya'll don't mind a woman hanging out with ya......... I am SOOOO there!
  8. The Jolida has a digital port on the back (picture) http://www.audiotweak.co.za/images/fullview_jolida_jd100a_rear.jpg Here's a pic of the remote: Those ball bearing buttons move around in their sockets so if you're the fidgety type, you can roll them around with your thumb while you listen. http://www.unitedhomeproducts.com/5bfbca60.jpg One of my buttons broke so I called Jolida to find out what was involved in fixing or replacing. It was a surprising reasonable quote. I decided it might have been a simple deal of mere dirt/lint getting around the ball bearing so I took it all apart to fix it. Despite being super careful, I bumped my hand against the table and the ball bearings went flying all over the room. The cats loved this! I fixed it. I know people don't go gaga over remotes here but these types of things (fit/finish, weight of unit, attractiveness, and bonus points for the coolest remote I've seen).... all add up to a good user experience and "feel". BTW - the guy who sold it to us was local and delivered it to us. He advised my husband to "don't drop the remote in your lap". If you know what I mean. Fair warning!
  9. Actually, I thought they were cheaper. I had a questionably working tube in it prior so IDK. I have Tung Sol Reissues I want to try also. Seriously, Audiogon has Jolidas now and I saw some Level 1 modded used for good prices. I didn't see any Ah! unless I spelled it wrong. I've called Jolida a total of 3 times now and each time they answered their phone immediately and were very helpful. I'm gleaning they have good cust. service.
  10. I'd go with N. Why buy old technology?
  11. But what I'm confused about is at KlipschFest, I distinctly remember hearing the interior was a redesign as well. That there's something different in the construction other than mere backs being put on. Even looking at the pics of the 60th, the mid horn/driver doesn't stick out as much as my standards - or something like that. I'd like to understand better how exactly the 60th's were built.
  12. Congrats Paully! I have Chorus II's and think they're great speakers. I've not upgraded the crossovers in mine cuz they aren't being used right now.
  13. Gilbert - you have a PM
  14. Yes, I've been there once. Pretty cool they have a Jolida. Make sure you find out what tubes are in it and their health, else you could get a false listen. I just swapped my tubes and the difference was pretty big.
  15. What I 'don't' get is people calling up sellers to tell them they are selling something too cheap. I've experienced this with 2 purchases. One was where I had a verbal agreement and was in-transit to the seller's house. When I got there, these convos were related to me. These convos to the seller occurred between the time I left and the time I got to the sellers' house. Seemed pretty clear to me they/someone was trying hard to turn it into a bidding war and offered more than what I was paying. Otherwise, I don't get the need to inform sellers they are selling something too cheap especially when one won't be buying. These sellers on Craigslist have access to a computer and all it takes is a few clicks to get to Ebay for a quick comparison search. It's up to the seller to do basic research IMO.
  16. Am I missing something? People have called Dibs here before. Many have stepped aside to allow someone to get speakers. I always thought that was nice about this forum.
  17. I love my Jolida as well. I do think it's prettier than the Ah! and I've yet to see a pic of the Ah's remote, but the Jolida remote is off the hook cool. The buttons are really large ball bearings and the case.... well, it's just very unique and cool. Sounds fantastic! I bought mine used with the Underwood Level 1 mod that Carl mentions (Silver). There's some on Audiogon now both modded and stock.
  18. Gilbert - Was wondering how those v-caps were doing with break-in. Wondering your opinion of them.
  19. Well my tube gear now has been working fine. No blown fuses/tubes, etc. I talked to Craig today about some stuff and he said it could've very well been my meter. IDK. I just tested again and all the walls read at 121. Furman outlet is 123 which I don't feel it should be at. Have to test more.
  20. Probably super-compressed recordings? Gosh - when the heck are CDs going to ALL sound good?
  21. Can someone help me with a basic understanding..... I have the 2404's perched atop the khorns running to a stock AK-3 x-over. On the back of the JBLs, there's a black colored plug and a red. I have my red wire on the red plug running to the red spot on the ak-3 (where the red on k77m was) and of course black to black. Is that wrong? (EDIT: I don't think these are the "H" type. I think).
  22. If my readings today were accurate, the electric co. 'better' do something! They can at least come out and make sure their gear at the pole is ok. I've blown lots of tubes and fuses here and if they're shooting me 136 volts - I'd think that would be damaging to ANY electronic gear. Plus, it's costing me more than normal to run lightbulbs, etc. Al Gore wouldn't be happy with me. IDK, it's working now at 122 at the wall (and regulator's outlet). Sounds fantastic. Unless the meter's battery was at fault. Am I wrong to find that hard to believe on first blush?
  23. Hey Duke! What tubes do you have in your Jolida? I just changed mine to inexpensive EH cuz I had a tube that was 1/2 bad.... nice improvement for me. I also have TunSol reissue that I've not tried yet.
