  1. MAN! I read thru 6.5 pages of this post and I saw almost all of my favorites mentioned except one...so I all set to mention Tony Thompson (Chic, David Bowie, Power Station) and BAM Rockbobmel beats me to it ! Oh well still fun thread! Dave
  2. Earlier in the thread someone said: "With HD....HD is HD...and should be the smae no matter how you get it via over the air...cable or Satelite..." This is not true. Over the air is the ONLY way to currently see HD signals that are NOT beeing compressed (via transmition). We all know there's lot's of smoke and mirrors in the digital realm...even more so in the world of "HD" Dave
  3. Colin, I sold my house (where I had a 5.1 set-up) this year and bought a townhouse where I don't have any easy options for my rear channels. I've been running 3.1 for about 7 months now. I can't say that I miss the rear channels all that much, but I don't spend near the time watching/listening as I used to in my old house. I really miss having the ability to listen at a good volume (because I have neighbors on the other sides of the walls)...but the thing I miss the most is no longer having room for my LaScalas. Dave
  4. I'll make an educated guess and say: Discrete Logic's Flame...What do you mean you don't know what that is!
  5. I remember when I bought the "Revenge" album in '83...I thought it was one coolest New Wave synth-pop albums ever. By the time "Twitch" came out in '86, Ministry had changed their sound so much (WAY HARDER & MORE AGGRESSIVE) I had to check the liner notes to make sure it was the same band. Some of their album titles were pretty funny/sick: "The Land of Rape & Honey" "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste" "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up" (LIVE) For a guy who is 46 years old, Alain Jorgensen is still pretty hardcore...does heroin keep you young? Dave
  6. I can't really handle the HOT stuff anymore, so I pretty much stick to Crystal or the Tabasco Green. One sauce that alot of folks don't seem to know about is the Chili Sauce at Wendy's (very mild). I don't really care for Wendy's chili but this sauce is awesome on fries especially and even on burgers or chicken. It is a bit strange looking though, clear w/ a slight yellow tint and it comes in those tiny packets like ketchup. Dave
  7. Tom Blasing wrote: "For me it was either the Archie cut-out records from the back of cereal boxes.." Wow Tom, I had some of those Archies cut-outs as well..."Sugar", an appropriate title for a 45 cut off the back of a kids cereal box! The first records (45s) I actually bought for myself were "Green Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf and "American Woman" by The Guess Who..I still love those tunes!. I didn't start buying albums (33s) until much later...I think the first album I sprang for myself was "Venus & Mars" by Wings. Dave
  8. Spyder or Milton10, I see you are both in Florida...although on the other coast (I'm in Ft. Lauderdale). I have a pair of '86 LaScalas (black w/ grille cloth on the HF section) that I want to sell or trade for some smaller footprint Klipsch models. These speakers are working perfectly but one of them has a scrape on the outside front edge of the bass horn and both could benefit from a good refinish. I recently moved into a townhouse and I just can't make the LaScalas fit...it's breaking my heart! Feel free to email me at david@cineworks.com if you have any interest. I have a buddy who has Heresies...they are very nice speakers indeed...but LaScalas will punch you in the face! Aside from the advantage of being 3 way fully horn loaded, the midrange squawker in the LaScala is far superior (IMHO) than that of the Heresy. Unfortunately, I have never had the pleasure of listening to a Cornwall so I can't offer an opinion. Good Luck on your qwest! Dave
  9. Hmmmnn...Although I can't argue against any of the other bands mentioned...I gotta go with The Beatles. They might not stack up against ANY of the other bands mentioned here in the live performance catagory BUT NO OTHER BAND changed/evoloved their music (and the rest of the music world followed suit) more than The Beatles.
  10. Tweek, I have a pair of LaScalas that I'm considering selling or preferably trading for smaller footprint Klipsch (ie: Chorus, Fortes, KLFs, RFs). I recently moved into a townhouse and I just can't fit the Scalas in my main room and I don't really want to try to drag those beasts upstairs to the master bedroom. I'm in South Florida and can be contacted at david@cineworks.com if you have any interest. Dave
  11. I blew the fuse on my KSW last weekend (VERY LOUD PARTY;). The fuse looked OK on first inspection, then I put my volt meter on it and saw that the fuse was indeed blown. All fixed now...GOOD LUCK! Dave
  12. Elvis Costello?...WHAT's NOT TO LIKE! 1st three albums...My Aim Is True...This Year's Model...Armed Forces ALL CLASSICS! Imperial Bedroom is a pretty solid choices as well. There's a reason this guy is in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Dave
  13. Ahhh....Good times...My Father and I also used to enjoy those same Terrance Hill classics...I think you just gave me a great xmas gift idea! Thanks! Dave
  14. I think iPod sounds just swell on my Accoustimass system Dave
  15. I really enjoyed this movie as well! Original idea...Fairly big name actors (Drew Barrymore, Noah Wylie, Patrick Swayze) in minor roles...I dug the whole deranged rabbit thing. I couldn't get this movie out of my head for days after watching it...Good soundtrack as well. By the way, there is a pretty freaky website for the movie as well that gives alittle more background: "http://www.donniedarko.com/" Dave
  16. "the Marlins were a bought team...the Cubs made it through sheer sweat" OK the 1997 World Champion Marlins fit your description.....BUT This year's team probably has the smallest pay-roll of ANY of the teams that made the play-offs. I bet Sosa, Woods, and Prior's salaries add up to more than the Marlins starting line-up. Maybe only one Marlins player ("Pudge" Rodriguez) is a household name. And there's not a single corked bat in the dugout Dave GO FISH!
  17. I'm sure Alou did call it...IN SPANISH!...I guess those Cubs fans gotta learn Spanish like most of the Marlins fans Dave
  18. I'm wondering why all the Cubs fans are wanting a piece of this one poor fan...every Cub fan within reach of that ball was trying for it. Why don't some of those tough guy fans go after their own short-stop, afterall he gets paid millons to field routine ground balls Dave GO FISH!
  19. So am I the ONLY Marlins fan here? I sympathize with the historical misfortunes of the Cubbies and all but...GO FISH! Dave
  20. Someone on CNN Healine News broke down what Kevin Garnett will make this basketball season... $23 Million...or $7,000/per minute of game time Do some people make am obscene amount of money...YES Do they deserve it...Who is to say!
  21. Slim Picken's character (B-52 Pilot) in Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb". In order to release his A-Bomb he sits on it and rides it like a bucking bronco down to it's target while waving his cowboy hat and yelling "WaHOOOOO....."
  22. My home theater isn't much to brag about compared to many here...but I DO have the kegorator...Now if only I had a digital camera! Dave
  23. Tom, As a fellow father of a beautiful young Madison, I can tell you that brown hair does an equally good job at hiding the horns! Dave
  24. Although not enough info here...Could you be hearing the difference between the rather "Fast" sounding bass of your RF-7's smaller woofers versus the comparatively "Slower" bass of the 15" woofer in your sub (NOT dissing the RSW-15)? Dave
