  1. Saw Godsmack:Awake (DVD DTS) today. Not DVD-Audio or SACD, but I bet the DTS encoding is pretty good.
  2. Mike, are you looking for a DVP or CDP? I ask this question because you refer to Denon DCM-370, which is a CDP. Anyways, the Toshiba I listed has HDCD like my Denon CDP. This leads me to believe some attention has gone into the DAC. So 2-channel analog should be OK.
  3. For that ol' rattle and shake feelin', nothing kicks butt like a buttkicker (hahahahha)
  4. I don't think the metal market (kids with little cash -please take no offense if this applies) would support higher prices for their music. It seems to me the DVD-A/SACD market is for an older generation who is (a) looking for re-remastered copies of old rock classics (how many times must we buy Hotel California) or; ( interested in musical fidelity where it really counts instruments and vocals (i.e. classical, jazz and blues). I, for one, would consider paying $22.50 for Metallic: Metallic (DVD-Audio). To me, it is a rock and roll classic. But I highly doubt most listeners of Korn (sp), Rob Zombie or Slip Knot would pay ten more dollars over the normal cost of a CD for a higher sampling rate. Just my $0.02. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-27-2002 at 11:17 AM
  5. quote: (parametric equalization is excellent for this) parametric equalization??? I think my intergrated amp has this feature. After the kids are in bed, I'll get back into my owner's manual check it out. Would I need a sound meter to get things right? ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)

  7. WOW!!! There is a lot of turf defending from both Reference and Heritage owners. Sorry Stu Pidass for jumping on your case. Your Username, Stu Pidass, puts a bias on how I read your post. Image that! So please, you and Ears continue ribbing each other. Maybe Klipsch should start a new forum called Sh*t Talking. That way, guys like me - who have a hard time reading between the lines - would know where people are coming from. Ill have a hard time finding a store in Virginia Beach in which I can A/B test these two wonderful lines of speakers. From judging these posts, it would be worth my time to find one.
  8. Hey there Stu-pidAss, take it easy on the Ears. At least his unique outlook is enjoyable to read, unlike others. My intent, which is shared by most posters here, was to draw out a good debate on these two well-liked and well-respected lines of speakers - not to draw out personal attacks!!! I might find your comments more welcoming on other BBs; Get the hint? ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-23-2002 at 04:04 PM

  10. Craig, your DSP-A1 has two outputs for dual subs, right? Use one for your new SVSubs and the other output for a ButtKicker . Strap one to the underneath of the couch. I bet its a riot
  11. Mike, 10x better! REALLY It must be differences between our gear. I've got high-quality connectors, both digital and analog, to my Intergrated Amp. And the DAC in my DVD Player and Intergrated Amp are also pretty good, IMHO. I have noticed that when my SD9200's DAC is employed I get a little more bass extension, but friends and family can't hear. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  12. Maxg, I like the idea of a sealed sub that is very taught, musical, and has good volume at 20hz. Subs I'm considering pairing up with my HIIs: - SVS 20-39PC (wish I could hear them in a store) - Sunfire MKII - RSW-12 - REL Strata III (recent addition)
  13. Don't listen to these guys. You got ripped off man and they're trying to make you feel better. But seeing you're a nice guy, I'll give you an extra $100 over what you paid to help you get rid of the things. Let me know if I can help! 14. Ears - Not a Heritage guy?! Surely a pair of used Belle(s) or LaScala(s) would pound the RF-7(s) into the ground Look forward to check out the RF-7s this summer. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  15. The only reason I got a DVD-audio player was because my Toshiba had great reviews, was well-priced for the quality of gear, and it had many other specs that I wanted. The DVD-Audio capability was icing on the cake. I feel it would pretty hard to pick one format over the other. Lets face it, both are arguably equal at reproducing sound as it was recorded. If I was to select one over the other, my decision factors would be: availability of material, industry and market treads (which format is the next BETA), and cost of equipment and material. A great homework assignment for someone wanting to make a truly information choice. Post your result here! ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  16. Outstanding! Now I know what to use the second sub output on my amp for...a BUTTKICKER!!! I currently use my wife but that piece of equipment has proven to be unreliable. Sometimes my butt gets kicked when I do not want it to be. And sometimes my butt does not get kicked when it should be.
  17. If you dont want to part with your beloved Heresey IIs, and I understand why, than going nearly all Heritage is the way to go (Ill get there someday!). Now I have never A/B tested various Klipsch lines (i.e. Legends, Reference, Heritage) but numerous posters from this forum state you can really HEAR a difference. If you dont go entirely Heritage, at least get a Heritage center channel. Maybe find an Academy or a single/dual HIIs. I believe you can be more flexible with the rear channels, IMHO. So some good Reference series rear surrounds should do the trick. The proper sub is critically!!! As you are aware, the HIIs have limited bass response - not exactly ideal for HT. Check out the powered subwoofers forum. Many recommendations for subs with the Heritage line. Some Cornwalls or Fortes as mains with my HIIs as a dual center-channel would be my heaven (jack up the TV and put 'em sideways underneath), but anyway, there is my two cents. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)

    96mhz?

Someone jump all over me if I'm wrong here (but not too hard I read somewhere that the film/music industries weren't going to put out material over 20/96. My DVD-Audio player is capable of 24/192 but we'll never see it...copyright issues - money. My Fleetwood Mac: Rumours (DVD-Audio) has a 96kHz audio option. And sounds great! ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  19. So thats how you get all those stars! No credit for just READING this BB. Whats up with that? Thats it, from now on I'm going to live my life in the pursuit of being an "answering machine?!" ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap)
  20. Justin, slow down, you're losin it man!!! Place your checkbook, bank book and/or credit cards that you have on the floor in front of you and SLOWLY BACK AWAY, ok... I strongly recommend you seek professional help, on many levels. Recommend you consult a local HT dealer/designer. This is going to get expensive so you might as well do it right! Good luck, and keep us posted.
  21. Agree with Matthew! Onkyo and Denon are thought of as good matches. Mid-range Sony receivers would work well with Synergies too. Do stay away from the low-end Yammies, but the high-end models are AWESOME!!! Just keep that treble flat or maybe "-1" for the Synergies. No bias, LOL!!! ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-20-2002 at 01:47 PM
  22. Hey there HT forum readers - Have you been reading what many of the two-channel forum folks are saying? That the vintage Heritage line speakers, specifically Cornwalls, are better than the new RF-7s. Can this be true? Has Klipsch been following the market hype of new and improved, when their TRUE FAN base lies with the Heritage series? Like Zorg in The Fifth Element said, Im a little d-d-disappointed! Ive been stationed overseas for a while and was pretty jazzed up about listening to the new RF-7s when I returned to the states this summer. I was hoping that the RF-7s were a return to music fidelity, with SOME HT considerations. But after reading many posts from die-hard Klipsch fans, my enthusiasm for the RF-7s is losing steam. Ill still give them a listen but it will be half-hearted. Is there anyone out there who could put a smile back on my face? Please, someone, WOULD YOU TRADE IN YOUR CORNWALLS FOR A PAIR OF RF-7?! If not, Ebay and Audiogon, here I come. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-20-2002 at 01:24 PM
  23. A "must have" for ol' rockers! Hope I'm not dating myself, LOL. The 5.1 DTS format was well mixed: Music was in the front; Crowd and reflections were all around. Felt like I was in Detroit! You're right on about the 4.1. I got no sound through the front channel. No biggy though. I prefer music through my Heresey IIs, but maybe a dual Hereseys for a center channel...yummmm!!! ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-20-2002 at 06:40 AM
  24. My thoughts on Heresey IIs - !!! How about Heresey IIs for an entire music/HT system, a six speakers (L/R/Cx2/RS/LS) setup. Would need a killer sub though. I'd like to find a nice pair of Cornwall IIs (more bass and sound stage) when I get back to the states and use the Hereseys as surrounds. Now all I need to do is find a house without a damn fireplace taking up so much valuable wall space. ------------------ A/V AMP: Yamaha DSP-A1 TV: 29" Sony Trinitron DVD: Toshiba SD9200 CDP: Denon DCM-370 MAIN: Klipsch Heresey II CTR: Klipsch KSF-C5 REAR: Infinity SM-65 (crap) SUB: Infinity BU-1 (crap) This message has been edited by Rob Curran on 01-19-2002 at 09:18 PM
  25. Just to touch on some of the discussion in this thread about online DVD retailer, I've found DVD Price Search very helpful.
