  1. Those "things" on the front of the wing that extend for takeoff and landing are generally refered to as lowspeed lift devices of which there are two widely used types being "slats" and "leading edge flaps". They work by increasing the camber (bend) in the wing which causes the airflow over the top of the wing to travel further to reach the trailing edge of the wing(increased low pressure) at the same time as the flow over the bottom of the wing which has a much shorter distance to travel(high pressure) which creates increased lift at low airspeeds.
  2. Howdy all, I wanted to audition the 63's as well when I was looking to buy 6 weeks back. They only had the 82 and 83's....There was no comparison and besides I really wanted the 83's anyway, LOL. Just to let you know I love the 83's. If the budget allows go for the 83 but if not I doubt the 63's will dissapoint. If the bass that comes out of my rc62 is anything to go by they will be very nice too. Enjoy and let us know what happens. Regards, Chris.
  3. Hey On Medic, Waterloo here! Have a look at the Yamaha RX-V2700 or 2600(2006 model), should do the trick for you, I have the 2500, works great, sounds great and has all what you need except HDMI but the models above do.
  4. Lmao, Mike, good one. As far as 100wpc goes, thats nothing with a low end receiver, we are not talking $5000 tube set ups running 70wpc. And its not about volume its about low end grunt, headroom and dynamic range, clipping thresh hold is especially important if you are going to run your speakers at loud settings. Why do people insist that they know more than the people who design and build these things?
  5. Oldbuckster, yes, the accoustic set is my fav as well, love the song where Bonham comes in with the kick drum pounding....I was smiling.
  6. A wing flys or supports weight because of Bernoulli's Theorem period. An aerofoil produces lift because the airflow over the top and bottom of the wing must and want to reach the trailing edge of the wing at the same time (camber). This creates a low pressure on top of the wing and high pressure on the bottom of the wing which creates an upward lift(asuming we are not inverted). Thats it plain and simple. Stick and rudder is about 50 years old and I read it when i was about 8! Great info but not legitimate theory of flight. For your Info, I am a certified Flying Instructor with 110000 hours of flying time including 5000 hours of multi engine jet time. Hope this helps. Kind Regards, Jet Jockey.
  7. Hi all, Just picked up Led Zep DVD. Probably been reviewed on here before. I have to say, the sound Quality is absolutely stunning. This is one of the best mixed and best all round sounding DVD concerts I have heard. I am very picky with sound and have over 40 concerts, this is one of the best. I have never heard kick drum pound you in the face like this disc, everything is so clear and the sounstage is so wide and full, simply dazzling stuff from 25-35 years ago. Video for the most part is also good considering most of the older footage was shot with 16mm. Robert Plant and his team should be given an award for this fantastic piece of history. Highly recomended, Cheers, Jet Jockey.
  8. 1080P is NOT propaganda! I do not own one piece of Sony gear. What basis do you say 1080 p is not better? I know why, because you haven't seen 1080P on a 1080P Display. What nonsense!
  9. The wing or airfoil has to be going fast enough (airspeed over and under the wing) Bournoulis theorem, to offset and be more than the weight of the aircraft. Lift must exceed weight Thrust must exceed drag. For once a topic I actually do know something about!
  10. LOL, really? Now my chances are blown for winning the lottery! How does one claim such prizes?
  11. Oldbuckster, are you listening to concerts with the center turned off in 5.1? If you are you are really missing alot on some discs depending on how they are engineered. For example, Eric Clapton ,One More car One More rider uses the center almost exclusively for Erics voice and guitar. Another is Hell freezes over, almost all bass lines are center channel, bar low down notes and lead singer and congas etc..... You may be missing alot.
  12. Hi there, your amp may be sufficient to run your 82's but Klipsch recomends power equal to or greater than recomended RMS power handling for each model, in your case it is 150 RMS. I am in the same boat as you. I am running a Yamaha RXV2500 rated at 130 wpc with my Rf83's which are rated at 250 RMS!!...lol...they sound fantastic but am looking forward to getting at least a 250 wpc seperate amp, should be fun.
  13. Congrats on your upcoming purchase! As a proud one month old owner of the 83's, I will say you will be VERy happy. I paid 72% but thats in Canada and I had bought tons of stuff within the last 9 months from the same store. Good luck and enjoy and let us know how you love them.
  14. LOL, they are truly a huge speaker and even bigger boxes, I collapsed mine and are sitting in my basement with all my other unused audio equipment and empty boxes.
  15. Congrats on your 83's, I love mine as well. I for one prefer the all copper colour of the 83's drivers, looks very rich .
  16. This is how my system is set up. Yamaha RXV 2500, Klipsch Rf83,RC62, Paradigm PW2200, Mirage Omni 260 rears. Set sub Xover to max(full clockwise), set phase to min(full counterclockwise), set speaker to small for movies, large for music. Set sub level to 10 or 11 oclock position. set bass out on receiver to both, set Xover on receiver to 80 or 90 HZ( experiment with this with a good bass song playing that you know). Lower xover settings tend to make the sub boom and you can tell where the sub is located(directional, it should not be!) this of course all depends on your rooms acoustics and equipment. Finally run the auto setup and fine tune as you go. This is just what has worked for me, good luck.
  17. LOL, I don't think anyone said the 7's aren't a great speaker. Comparing the two is a little difficult it would seem to me, they are designed very differently to sound different, that was the whole idea of a new design. It all boils down to what sounds "amazing" to you the individual.
  18. Hey all, I had the Toshiba SD3800, worked well enough and was happy till it bit the dust after a cpl of years. Replaced it with HK DVD22. The difference in picture and sound was totally amazing. I have heard the 640 really is a nice sounding unit, I would think you would hear a huge difference.
  19. I am running an HK DVD22 through a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver. For CD's or 2 channel the analog out using the DVD players dacs sounds like night and day from digital toslink. This one simple change that I only discovered a week ago make my RF83 sound like they are supposed to, utterly fantastic! For DVD's you have to use either toslink or coax digital, either is as good as the other. When you have both types of wiring hooked up, put on your fav CD and switch back and forth from DVD to CD inputs on your remote and it will be quite evident which sounds better. If you have a decent DVD player, my guess is it will sound better through analog. let us know the results. Below is from another thread in more detail. Thanks for the input everyone. My HK DVD22 is supposed to have a good set of Wolfsen Dacs in it, from what I have read anyway. To me some CDs sounded good but something was missing, rich full sounding sound (mids) and sometimes very screechy at the high end. I finally decided to change the wiring between the DVD and receiver as a test. I hooked up a pair of RCA audio cables from the analog out on the DVD player into the CD in on the receiver, after realising that CD players output analog signals. The toslink connection was sending a digital signal to the receiver which then had to do the decode to analog or something like that, LOL. Anyway, the results were simply astounding. This is no placebo effect or psycho want it to sound better, even my wife could hear the difference! The whole sound reproduction is completely different, so full sounding and rich, nice mids, good bass extention and those nasty ear fatiging screechy highs have dissapeared. Maybe you audiofile types have been doing this forever or maybe I am just dumb but I consider myself to be alittle bit savy with this stuff but it never donned on me before to try this analog out thing. If you are configured as I was and I suspect a whole pile of you are, try it out, it takes two secs and for me is just amazing at the difference in sound quality. Maybe some receivers handle the decode better but my yamaha did not seem to do a very good job, however to be fair it is excellent with digital soundtracks. Hope you have good results and would love some feedback on my "test".
  20. Hi there, I have the RC62 and RF83, not the perfect "timbre" match so I'm told but it sure sounds fantastic to me. If I knew how good the RC62 was going to be when I bought it I most likley would have got the 64. The 62 is in fact what made me go out and buy the 83's , its that good. Either way, you can't go wrong, they both rock and kick serious ***. Check out the centre channel on Eric Clapton "One more car , one more rider", His voice and guitar work are projected through this one speaker at ratio of roughly 85%...if this DVD sounds amazing in 5.1, you have a very fine centre. Enjoy and let us know what you got!
  21. Audible Nectar, here, here. Very well said. We need to start a consumers action group to make the record companies start producing sweet sounding material again. The race for the loudest disc has led to an overcompressed plugin filled piece of crap that sounds like...crap. Maybe the new engineers are being trained this way and wouldn't know what quality sounding discs were if it smacked em in the face. Rant over, peace all.
  22. As an after thought, assuming pricing is good, if you already have RF7's why wouldn't you get the 83's and that way you can put them in the room that works best for each application? Just a thought.
  23. hi there, i'm in Ontario, Canada and paid $2600 Cad plus tax of course. The list was $3499 which i think was inflated but am happy with the deal especially considering how friggin awesome they sound. Up here 20% off is pretty much the norm on higher priced gear. Let us all know what you get and have FUN!! P.S....from what I have seen from Klipsch , either choice would be a good one.
