  1. Wasn't sure on the spelling, have used that line as well through the years.
  2. Don't forget Mrs. Preski
  3. My LaScala's came with the top hat grill in black. I reinforced the bass bins with 3/4 baltic birch braces off-set. The bracing is 90 degrees to the roof of the dog house which puts it at 60 degrees to the sides of the bass bin. Used 3/4 by 3/4 cleats at the top and bottom. I have pattern for all parts. you will need to apply 1/2 in. quarter round to the perimeter of the top hat to house the top hat screen. Velcroed to hold in place. Tom
  4. Thanks DD, I'l contact Bob about the particulars. t
  5. Welcome to the forum, as you have found there is a wealth of knowledge here and everyone is more than willing to share. Daddy Dee, can you elaborae on the mid/tweeter crossover mod, what and how to do it, and did you do this on your LaScala's? Or is this a question for Bob Crites? Firesign, Bob is a super nice guy and a great adviser on your questions. Are you waiting for the electrcian or someone like him? Tom
  6. Thanks, I'm happy with the way they turned out. I need to thank Jeff for steering me towards that thread on the placement of the bass bin bracing, it did tighten up the bass. I guess I should have dusted before I took the pic. Fell free to contact me if you have questions. Tom
  7. I'm going to try to post a pic of my LaScala mod.
  8. Can someone help me post some pics of my caned LaScala's. I'm a bit thick when it comes to posting pics here. Gman you're right about the synthetic in the Wendell cane fabric, it runs perpendicular to the cane, I think the fabric looks good. Tom
  9. I just re-skinned my modded LaScala's with the cane fabric from Wendell, got the 2 yd. min. I think the cane fabric cost me around $60 to get to my door. I made 1/4 baltic birch inserts for the bass bins and the top hat and use spray adhesive. If you want more info PM or email me. I'd post a pic, but I can't figure out how to do it. Not very tech savvy. Tom
  10. I have to second this review, I have picked up several of the Prestige and Riverside vinyl distributed by Fantasy. Great recordings for the money. I found any of the vinyl recorded by Rudy Van Gelder is outsanding. If you can find Coleman Hawkins "Night Hawk"grab it, he and Eddie "Lock Jaw" Davis are a wonderful together. Tom
  11. Mark, if you are willing to pry the thin metal cover off the top for the head shell, you will be able to mount the Grado. I had a Grado Gold on my TD 160, sounded great. Here is a great site for Thorens info, tweaks and tuning. http://www.theanalogdept.com/thorens_td_160_dept_.htm Tom
  12. I have Forte II's and upgraded to the titanium diaphragms and realized a noticable difference, more clarity and detail in the upper end. Money very well spent. According to Bob the ti dia's will better respond to the crossover upgrade. t
  13. Thanks Jeff, read the thread and I agree with the off-set logic. I wedged my bracing in place (on center) last night, and listened to music with them in and then out. I noted more bass, but thought it a bit flabby. Will try with the off-set to see if I hear a difference. Thanks for the help. Tom
  14. Beautiful work, I'm in the process of reinforcing my bass bins. Can I ask why you off-set you bass bin brackets, and are the brackets coming off the dog house at a 90 degrees? Tom
  15. yourmusic.com they don't have everything, but at $6.99 shipped it's a good place to look.
  16. I have to agree with wuzzer, after talking with Bob Crites I went with the Ti diaphrams and was surprized at the improvement, it was more than just noticable. The clarity and presence of the highs far exceeded the $60 spent, made me wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Bob has a very well illustrated, (pictures) set of instructions at his site. You will not regret this mod. My Forte II's were my first set of klipsch, I have had Forte I's, Heresy's, Cornwalls and LaScale's, for the money, size and footprint, the Forte II's are the best sound for the money. I keep the II's and the LS both tough to bet for the $'s invested. Tom
  17. I can speak for the Merlin only, if you have one, you won't regret the up-grade, it's money well spent. t
  18. I couldn’t agree more. I sent my Merlin to Craig NOSValve last summer to have him do his magic, after choking and a larger tranny it came back within a breath of the BBX sound. Once I found a quite, sweet sounding 6DJ8, the little Merlin now sings with a detail I never heard from it before. Thanks to Daddy Dee, I'm pretty sure it was you who pointed me to the Merlin 3 or 4 years ago, and Thebes for sharing. Tom
  19. I have a JM BlueBerry Xtreme with the Cream looking for a new home. I have 2 Merlins and don't need the phono sections in the BBX. Email me if you're interested. Tom
  20. If you are considering a TD 160, I suggest you go to The Analog Dept site. It has great info on the Thorens and DIY tweaks with excellent photos and directions. I did the chassis dampening and found it made a big difference in the bottom end. http://www.theanalogdept.com/thorens_td_160_dept_.htm Tom
  21. mxr dad, didn't get it, try tkeady@neb.rr.com.
  22. mxr dad, my first tube amp was a Cayin TA 30 with Forte II's, a dramatic change over the SS Marranz. There are several threads on the forum on it, I've added a review from GoodSound, that is worth reading. I still have the Cayin and trade it in and out of my livingroom system, need to cut back, if you're interested email me. http://www.goodsound.com/equipment/cayin_ta_30.htm Tom
