  1. I have had 6 RF 3 and RF 3 II sets so far and the funny thing is all the RF 3 II were rated at 150 watts but I still have one set of RF 3 with 225 stamped on the sticker go figure
  2. Sorry I can't help as I never compared those 2 Sounds like either the sound coming out of them goes right above your head or you are not set up properly. First check the set up and using a Sound Level Pressure Meter make sure all the speakers are properly tuned. It is easy to figure out if the sound goes right above your head: dial them up a little, get up and move forward into the room. If you start to hear more details coming out them then you know. Solution: angle them down a little bit or check in the new RS series ( 42, 53 or 62). You will be amazed how much better those are versus the previous RS design for this kind of applications
  3. Not to hijack the thread but I was just about to pull the trigger on the MX 136 I assumed it would do fine with with the new audio formats, that explains why you can find so many of them on the used market for so cheap. I think I will just wait, Thanks
  4. I had the RS3 II for 6 years and I thought the RF 3 series was the best bang for the buck ( I still do). About a year ago I came a cross a good deal on a pair of RS 52 . I was not planing on upgrading the surround speakers but what the heck and man I'm glad I did buy those speakers The RS 3 are gone and I have now a set of RS 42, 52 and 62. Those speakers are something else, much better
  5. You might have been correct in the pass but it is not the case anymore with the new WSDT reference series such the RS 62. I assure you there is nothing echoey about those. Anyway, You really can't compare a cornwall to a WSDt type of speaker. ( this statement only applies for movies watching set up) It would be like telling you your 4 cornwalls are nice but I will stick with my 4 K-horns or my 4 mwm.
  6. I agree, much better for home theater and I prefer my music in 2 channel. That is it ! I never understood why you would use bookshelves for the rear. You are either using WSTD speakers with 5.1/ 6.1 dobly digital signals for movies or if you want to use the system for music and you still want all around speakers to fill teh room, do yourself a favor and have matching speakers in the front and the back. Anything less is pointless.
  7. There are pors and cons for most of the players out The Sony S550 is probably on the best player you canget for the money. The fact that it is a sony player makes it nice and like the PS3 it is well supported but the PS3 still has a faster loading time. I have seen them as long as $ 279 and for that price it is virtually impossible to beat If you already have the PS3 you might consider wait until the OPPO Blu ray player comes out. It might be worth the wait.
  8. I see you have the RF 82 and the F3, how are the 2 comparing?
  9. Unless you have a big room no you won't see a big difference. At one point I had the RS 42, 52 and 62 in my system and I did not notice much difference between the RS 42 and the 52
  10. Interesting... I've heard the RF-83/RC-64 combo on several occasions and I thought my stock RF-7s/RC-7 sounded better and is the reason I didn't feel the need to upgrade speakers. I guess it's a preference thing. Well it might be a matter of preference but unless you have both systems hooked up in the same room to the same equipment and at least one other person listening to it, it is like comparing apples and oranges.
  11. That is exactly how I would describe the improvement, I only have my RC7 done but the RF 7 should follow soon. To me that is the main improvement with the RC 64/ RF 83 series I did a test with a stock RC 7, a Dean X-over upgraded RC 7 and an RC 64 side by side. I noticed the improvement between the 2 RC 7 but I could hardly hear a difference in the high between the Dean RC 7 and the RC 64
  12. Welcome to the forum. The reference series is great but I think staying with the heritage series is what you need to do, specially after having used the K-horns A pair of corwalls will do and if the size is still to big then look at the heresys. I would look in the used market for some deal, it is a buyer's time
  13. If you can afford it get the 83. you will mostlikely do just fine with the 63 but if you get the 83 you will never have to wonder what if

    RC 7

Please avoid duplicate post. You have already got the answer here link
  15. I would not say lacking but yes there is difference with the lossless format. I can bring the PS 3 over for a test if you want.
  16. I have them but the room is too small to fit them in specially those RF 7 they are real beasts
  17. Fine, I can do it better. I think i'm going to call mine hmmmmmm zillion. zillion
  18. The question you need to ask yourself is what are the 2 back surround channels. The RF 3 is an outsanding speaker and moving them to the back rear surround position is a total waste. The RF 35 and the RF 3 are basically the same speaker, you will not hear a difference between those two. The logical choice here would be the RF 5 or the RF 7 It is to bad about not being able to upgrade the RC 3, that would be the first thing I would change.
  19. I think derekd2 is right Going from HD DVD to Blue Ray was not a huge improvement but it was definitely better
  20. If you can afford it do what winchester21 said. it is a smart advice
  21. 14 gauge is fine. I would say even 16 gauge would work in your case The banana plugs will work well with the front speakers but I do not know about the surrounds. Unless you are going to use mounting brackets and not mount them flush will the wall they will stick out to far Just a thought
