  1. Finally after about a year of waiting......taaa daaaa I gots me a new RX-V1800 Amp from Yammihaaaa. Boy I did not know what I was missing using my old Reciever. Unpacked, hooked everything up and first did the YPAO measurements. Everything was easy and could be understood by a small child (which was lucky for me). Did some tweaking and adjusting and then on to serious listening to see if it was a good buy. First tune: Sweet child in time on LP...ahhh what happeded to my back wall??? Everything was well balanced and clear, to me it was a change like day to night. Next test: DVD, The DVD player is connected over composite bieng upscaled to the HDMI connection with sound going through PCM. I was not expecting much but I must say the upscaling to 1080i is working wonderfully!!! Colors are better and the textures just look briliant. The wife does not like that to much because she says the actors look like normal people with big pores and skin problems. [] I still can´t play DTS and the other fancy schmancy formats due to my DVD player but will probably be changing this also in the near future. There is a Blu-Ray player with my name on it waiting for me, when the finances are there I will be getting it (or should I buy the HD-DVD) ooops thats another thread!!! All in all I am a very happy camper! With the old reciever I could only go to about -45 or so before it was to loud. With the new one I can go to -30 or so befoe the wife says " Don´t forget we do have neibors!!" but this is so clear it would be no problem turning it up more!!! I am having some problems with the surround sound so I will have to RTFM and see what I am doing wrong. Could be that the movies I have been watching do not have much info coming through the rear channels, oh well we will see. Here is a link for those interested in the specs. http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=558291&CTID=5000300&ATRID=1020&DETYP=ATTRIBUTE signing out with [Y][H] Ran
  2. My tip this week Sunrise Avenue - On the way to wonderland 4 guys playing straight forward rock from Finland (Talk about cold). Good music, good lyrics and the singers voice while not "pure" is very interesting and easy to listen to. Forever yours and Fariytale gone bad are the 2 most known songs (here in germany) but the rest of the album is also good. Ran
  3. Very funny, Whats even more funny is is that the german titles in there are still heard here in germany Gottlieb Wendehals Polonäse Blankenese is a must at all of the "oldies" partys and just about everything from Heino (The only albino musician that I know) is cult.
  4. Baught the DVD´s this weekend and you are correct it smokes Family jewels. I do however find that the recordings on the 1st DVD (Bonn Scott Era) are superior to the ones on the 2nd DVD. I found that the playback of the first 3 songs were just, I don´t know Blaaa. After that they got better. Could just be me. My favorite track was "Let there be Rock", my wife asked me why the guitar player was slobbering. I just about spiewed my Bacardi Cola. Great tip!!! Ran
  5. Sony Classical Essential Classics CD Compelation, costed me 10 Euro for 5 CD´s. A nice compelation of well and lesser known classical pieces, each cd a different theme. Nice for someone who would like an introduction into classics. On CD 3 song 3 is one of my favorites, Toccata und Fugue in d-Moll. This piece really works your system. I was happily supprised at the quality, I could even hear the faint sounds of the valves opening in the background. For those of you who do not know this piece (who dosent?!) here is a good rendition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pY08e_tdtA Ran
  6. Scooter, Do you have all functions activated in both HD-DVD and BlueRay in the interactive menus? Or can you use this system only for playback? Ran
  7. I just came across this player it is supposed to be the first on the market that can play both HD DVD and Blue Ray. HDMI 1.3, HQV prossesor for upscaling and formats DD+, DTS-HD and TrueHD. It also supports iHD and BD-Java so all interactive functions are able to be used in both formats. Should be selling here in Germany for under 1000 Euro. Have not seen one in the stores yet, if I get one I´ll have to do a review [] Have you guys in the states heard about this device yet??? Almost to good to be true!!![:|] So much for the HD-DVD/BlueRay war!!!! Ran
  8. how does this collection par up against Family Jewels? Ran
  9. [*-)] OOPS searched in the wrong section of the forum, thanks for the heads up!!! Ran
  10. Hello out there Anyone heard the new AC/DC DVD Plug me in? It is a 3 DVD set and is supposed to be better than Family Jewels. Much more concert footage. They will be selling it here in Germany soon and since I am a AC/DC Fan I will get it but would like to hear reviews. Ran
  11. In Germany it was hard to find HD-DVD for about 2 months ago but now the major electronic stores (Media Markt / Saturn) are carrying both formats. The Playstation 3 sold well here and blue ray got a slight advantage, the only other player that I found was a Samsung. Now the HD DVD players are also available, much cheaper and strong in the comming due to the price of the medium (HD DVD 15 to 20 instead of Blue ray 30 to 35). Most of the people I know will still be sitting it out until the PC´s have one or the other player´s in them.
  12. I would agree Hostile 1, not a film for the weak hearted. The grudge The ring The hand on the cradle
  13. We had 101 yesterday wich is extremely hot for Germany, kinda reminded me of Texas. Just laid around in the shade and watched the plants grow in our garden.[Y]

  18. If I get a chance to meet him I'll drop a howdy and also let him know that this forum always suggests him for buyers oversees. Also thanks for the info about your Yammi TOYS[], If there is no possibility (at the moment I am worried about warranty) for the Emotiva system I will probably be buying the Yamaha I mentioned in the beginning of this thread. The prices have also droped a little so when money is once again saved we will see what happens. Nice signature I havent heard King Crimson since the Army days in Texas, and yes it's all talk.[Y]
  19. Not only in the good ol US of A OB, also here in Germany many are almost screaming that there should be Hubs built for long haul transport of container goods, and we have one of the best rail infrastructures in Europe. At the moment the Autobahns are so blocked by trucks you just about have to add 2 hours to your driving time to get to where you want to go in some areas. This is a fact, the cause is known, Germany is a hub for just about every other land, east to west, north to south. Thus we are having an enormous ammount of trucks driving through daily. OTOH put everything on trains and the Truckers loose their jobs. Almost a no win situation.
  20. FYI - Your wife is on to you, good luck [] Don't forget new shoes or dress is great bargining tool.
  21. I would not say that there are already projects bieng developed. Las Vegas > LA > San Diego; Boston > NY > Philly > Balt. >D.C.; Chattanooga > Atlanta More info on mentioned website. Randy
  22. Bielieve it or not my wife did our room treatments....... she is a plant fanatic and (I heard this with my own ears) by placing different size plants in certan places we went from a "bright" room (wooden floors, smooth walls) to dead. Of course "professional" treatment might work better but what the he11 the plants were already there and look good to boot. Anyone else ever try this?
  23. Mabie the exchange will be better then!!! heheheh
