  1. Don't be fooled by the 100W rating, the NAD 2200 has enough output to launch the Forte into low earth orbit (800W on program material into the 4Ω woofer). It sounds OK, it is lean in the bass, a bit forward, but with no real high end. The speaker relays frequently fail.

I had dinner with Romy last Wednesday, we went to Applebee's.
  3. While the amp is dual-mono, the preamp will have a common ground, so only one ground for the input signals will generally suffice.
  4. "Tap 5 "appears" to already be in use. It is the top right in the picture. " So now you know where to hook the tweeter crossover to.
  5. A B3 has a K77 on tap 4, a K79 would need to go on tap 5 (the input, like the CII).

  7. "Hiding them with thae plastic caps was sneaky, " Was required by law in many countries (to have a dead front).
  8. Move the tweeter crossover input up to the top tap on the autoformer and it will be the correct level.
  9. "You must have taught Dave the secret handshake" Probably. I suggest everyone try it, and then listen to the results. It's easy to do and or reverse. Let me know know how you like the B&C120s
  10. The original Forte had the same issue. I added a compressed foam pad behind the driver otherwise the cabinet would 'clank' when driven hard (although I never experienced that with the Cornwall).
  11. The elliptical filter makes the tweeter sound very sibilant too (especially on female vocals), I don't care for it.
  12. What are the drivers in the 816 cabinets?
  13. The 291 is a nice midrange driver. If you install a 288 diaphragm it will be good for a two-way speaker.
  14. "Does any one have any ideas about these horns? " What driver do they have?
  15. Hey, I extensively modified a Peavey mixer, totally changed the look of the LED output ladders, and then slapped a Yamaha logo over the Peavey logo. Everyone had to ask what the heck was it. It ended up sounding better than a friend's $25K Neotek mixing console (made him tear into it for some upgrades too). I must confess I used a Klipsch copper logo from the late 70's as a ground buss in a Hafler DH500 amplifier, but never on a non-Klipsch loudspeaker.
  16. "Troll. " Hmm, your probably right. A dB or so loss generally gets the flea-power crowd excited (easy to see why).
  17. "I hate to drag this thread back up again but wouldn't this design be limited in top end bandwidth due to the plenum dimensions. Maybe resonances around 200 or 400 Hz ?" The limit for a properly built PPSL with 8's is about 500hz (due to the depth). I am going to have to have a custom driver designed, the SEAS originally used was a surplus custom driver, not a stock driver, and is NLA. The Silver Flutes had too low of a Qts, and are NLA anyway. I am going to do a video at some point to hear the difference the PPSL makes, you have to hear it to believe it. (access is limited to the speakers involved due to personal issues involved in the couple that own them (not me)). While I recently bought a house, and planned to build a golden-mean listening room, buy a videocam and post the results, it is not coming together as fast as I would like.
  18. "Your comment was completely unnecessary. " Mine had a purpose, which you got, and it offended you. You have a right to be offended. Fine. You have the right to drive without a seat-belt, and ride without a helmet too.
  19. "INCORRECT AND IRRELEVANT! " Calculate the loss on the woofer inductor on a K33E in the Klipsch networks and get back to me with your apology. (It is significant for low powered amp users)
  20. The old wooden K5 horns were made prior the 1963, and near the end of that period had the University SAHF driver, the earliest had the WE713. Earliest horn flares were a beige colored plastic that warped, later they were a greenish fiberglass.
  21. Flat speakers in general sound better. Critical listeners will want a program material equalizer. Although they were only $6500 new, there is a used one on Audiogon for $29.5K (I think the one for USD $24,500.00 sold already): Cello Audio Palette + Suite EQ/Preamp Audiogon $29,500 Oct 17, 2016
  22. "A passive crossover requires no power at all" Incorrect. The loss is in the ESR of the caps, and the DCR of the woofer inductor. The loss in the woofer inductor is quite high on old type 'A' and 'B' networks, enough to be significant with flea-powered triode amps. Some of the newer networks were designed for high DCR inductors though, and the DCR should not be changed.
