  1. Tom, Sorry to hear about your experience. Glad you and the Missus were not there to be in any harms way if it could have occured. I do have a website that may be of interest to you and others. It rates the HDTV selection on may counts and can give you the prices from various store. http://www.retrevo.com/samples/TV.html You can do searches on size, brands etc. Hope this helps.
  2. I do not know anything about the Best Buy point system, but... And I do not know the answer to my following question. Who do you think would would give you the best service? Or, would buying directly from Klipsch give you quicker response on a waraanty issue than from buying from BB? I don't think it matters, but I do not know. All things being equal and apparently they are not with the BB point system, I would buy from Klipsch. That way Klipsch makes the more profit and not BB.
  3. Some oldies you've probably seen but still good for a chuckle. How Fights Start........ One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift.. The next year, he didn't buy her a gift. When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!" And that's how the fight started..... ================ My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, 'Do you want to have sex?' 'No,' she answered. I then said, 'Is that your final answer?' She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying 'Yes.' So I said, 'Then I'd like to phone a friend.' And that's when the fight started... ================ I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. 'I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.' He said, 'Aren't you worried about the mad cow?' 'Nah, she can order for herself.' And that's when the fight started...... ================ My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping the channels. She asked, 'What's on TV?' I said, 'Dust.' And then the fight started... ================ My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3 seconds.' I bought her a scale. And then the fight started. ================ My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table. I asked her, 'Do you know him?' 'Yes,' she sighed, ' He's my old boyfriend... I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since.' 'My God!' I said, 'who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?' And then the fight started... ================ I rear-ended a car this morning.. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it... he was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!' So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?' And then the fight started..... ============== I SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST..... THE BROKEN LAWN MOWER When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the truck, the car, playing golf, Always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, 'When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway.' The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.
  4. I am in Cleburne. 45 minutes south of Fort Worth.
  5. ..must have been a great record! Was the needle still down?
  6. Thanks for the idea Dr. Mixon. My VCR recorder player still plays well and is still available for connection. So, mostly its a DVD recording issue and the strange things the component does when least expected. I appreciate your input.
  7. Some people, me for example, still record shows on DVD-RW discs. I retired my VHS recorder. My Sony DVD recorder with builtin Digital tuner is starting to give me problems. I need a replacement. I live out in the country and do not have cable. I watch what is over the airwaves. I do not need BluRay capability, but having it is not an issue. My TV is a 32 inch tube type (weighs 140 lbs) is what was referred to 6 years ago as "digital tuner ready", but does not have a builtin digital tuner. I may upgrade the TV to a flat screen in the future, but not this year. Any suggestions for a replacement DVD recorder? Thanks
  8. texas42, There is a pair in Sherman Texas. I have no affiliation with this sales. Too bad no picture. Ad says good shape. Look on Dallas Craigslist.
  9. Thanks djk. I had not thought of swapping the drivers. Open Question. Is there a minimum seperation that should be observed between drivers. I have the 511's in a wooden box. Can I place the 811/806 combo on top of the box without concerns of magnetic interference? Looks like it would have a minimum seperation of 4 inches.
  10. Is it worthwhile attempting to use this combo as a tweeter setup to go along with a ALtec 511 and 802 driver? Just curious and just playing around. You live and learn. I may have a pair of 811 horns loaned to me with the 806 driver. Thanks
  11. This is kinda fun, humorous and dumb. [] You will never be without the words to describe an audio system! http://www.essentialaudio.com/humor/cliche.htm
  12. Not sure what you mean by that, so I attached the autoformer T2A picture. Maybe it will help.
  13. Anybody have any opinions or experience with the PS-200? I want to replace my PSA-2 that has fan noise with something that is cooled without the use of a fan. The D75 or D75A are a little difficult to find. Thanks
  14. Even many of the comments from the peanut gallery are great.
  15. Dave, I could not open your link. Maybe it is me.
  16. Phatwill, I have never seen or heard the Sansui Seven, but I have owned AKG headphones. Back in the late 70s within my budget criteria, they were a major bang for the buck. Sounds like you did very well. Congratulations on your deal. Does everything work properly?
  17. Had a hive put in a month ago. Cordovan Queen Bee. Very docile. You can get within 1 to 2 feet of the hive before they decide you may be a stranger. I had a huge stand of wild plum trees covered in blossoms recently. I did not see a single bee on any of the over 150 trees. That is when I decided our neighborhood needed some bee help. Not a bad deal. Another person takes care of the hive and we split the honey. Win-Win. Have not seen any grasshopers. Lots of fireants and scorpions tho.
  18. Congratulations. What a win! To go along with what Dennie said, maybe a picture lp of the album. Ebay has alot of Sgt. Pepper stuff. Here is an example of the picture lp. I am not afiliated with this business at all. As an example off of Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Beatles-Sgt-Peppers-UK-1978-PICTURE-DISC-LP-NM-/290439434855?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Records&hash=item439f8a1267
  19. Yea, deception never really works. Uh, maybe take the Missus with you, stay at a nice hotel, champayne breakfast, stroll on the beach, etc. Might make it a little easier. Maybe not. Have a safe trip. I used to live close to there. Looking down from an airplane makes you think you are looking into a bowl of cheerios with all the horse tracks. Wrinkles
  20. The K402 dimensions are approx. 26 5/8 " tall X 39.5" wide and 22.5 " deep.
  21. Thanks for the Radio Shack direction. The 1961 catalog Page 26 states it as "The Most Advanced Preamp Available!". Price $269.95 Wrinkles
  22. Seti, What an excellent blog. I bet I spent close to 3 hours looking at all you have there tonight. 2 questions: Do you have in your vault of audio information any advertisement literature, brochures, catalog pages on the H.H. Scott Type 122 Dynaural Stereo Control Center? I just had one rebuilt by NOSValves. The Scott website has some info. I was wanting to see how it was advertised to the audio public. Do you receive scanned copies or electronic copies of audio information from those of us that may have some audio info that might be of interest for the readers of your website? Wrinkles
  23. Thanks everybody for the comments, recommendations and directions on what you have done or would do in my situation. You see, I had just seen a pair of the Heresey H1 speakers on Craigslist for $300 and started thinking about my HT setup that needs an improvement. Presently, I do not have any Heresies. The LaScallas are powered off of a Dared 5 watt integrated tube amp with the speaker outputs also going to the Subwoofer inputs. So no HT receiver is being used. I was thinking about the convergence of sound at the distance of approximately 11 feet from where the Hersey locations would be and wondering if or how they would blend. I am familiar with the comb filtering situation when they are side by side, only have never heard when the convergence does not become an issue based on the two speaker situation I am inquiring about. I need to read up more on the combing effect to answer this, if it is covered. I had forgotten about the unshielded aspect of the older Heritage speakers, This kinda kills the idea if I were to D’Apollito line array style them as the higher Heresy would be along the side the CRT. Any ideas how far this magnetism reaches and can still affect a CRT? The LaScallas are presently toed in and work very well that way making up the center or at least a nice center feel, at least if you are sitting in the very center. Hanging out to the extreme ends of the sofa gives you a strong left or right presentation even utilizing the TV’s speakers. Does a single center that is to the left or right of the TV and not directly underneath the CRT become aurally obvious to the viewer that it is not directly under the TV? I have no rear speakers presently in the setup. I need a HT receiver before either hooking up either another pair of LaScallas or a pair of Frazier Dixielanders. Either is very dependent on whether the required real estate can handle it. One step at a time. It is obvious I must not rush into these things. Thanks again, Your experience and knowledge is very appreciated. Wrinkles
  24. I am prone to questions that may have obvious answers, but being unsure in the HT world I must ask. I have basically a 3.1 system. LaScalla fronts, a sorry sub and the TV's stereo speakers as center channel. LaScallas are about 12 feet apart centerline to centerline. I want to acquire a pair of Heresies and place on either side of the 32 inch TV which would put them about 4 feet center to center from each LaScalla and approximately 5 feet center to center for the Heresies. To me this would not be a real "center channel" as far as a single speaker is concerned, but due to the Heresy separation and listening distance from the TV would it react as a single center speaker or mix the fequencies up too much to be an improvement? I have thought of looking for a Belle, but I think it would raise the TV above our viewing comfort zone. We sit about 11 feet back from the TV. The electronics are below the TV in the stand. TV weighs about 135 lbs. Thanks for any comments and direction. Wrinkles
