  1. DJK Thanx man!!!! ITs worth looking into!
  2. DJK yeah i agree what you were saying about Yamaha There was a point there,.especially in Pro Audio ,where they were just nailing the competition, both on stage and at the $$ till Didn't they come out with a pro ,raw speaker line ,created especially to be able to "field replace" JBL pro drivers..In other word they would make their version of a 2205 woofer, or a 2405 slot ring...etc.I don't know how well this stuff sounded or lasted ,compared to the originals ,JBL,but im betting it was less cost Yamaha to this day, is one of the top musical hardware and software(midi) companies around. And..they make the worlds most consistent 9' concert grand,..the CF111S. Hey if its good enough for guys like, Billy Joel,Elton John,Stevie WOnder, David Foster, The boston symphony, and a few other high paid bums... The Quality speaks.....!! eh Eat your heart out Steinway ! ROb
  3. ijust picked up a set of ktp-484 subs for my behind the screen system with lascalla's who makes the actual speaker in the sub?

    dual subs

Hi dndphishin JBL makes a fine pro speaker. And a very musical companion for the Cornwall Are your subs using the 2225 woofer? It is a beautifully constructed speaker... I have no idea what speaker driver is in the ktp sub,... but man she is heavy! The main hitch with the KTP's is power. Supply as much clean power as you can to them. Both the speaker side..and the amp rack side. ((Ive learned so much from this project.)) Thats why i jumped at getting that big Dynaco when my neighbor made me the offer. Gotta admit, the guys in here were right about the Dynaco's . Heavy as a cement truck but built to last like one too. Just can't wait till its all done dust, noise ((choke)) etc

    dual subs

NOZ I agree, I allways knew i had to find a specific home for this particular heritage speaker. Soundtrack work seemed like a natural. The KTP's were the icing ...really Hope when we get the rear wall finished , i can snap some pics,if the lighting goes right have fun rob

    dual subs

Nothing wrong with 2 subs man...!!!!!nothing. I jut recently picked up (with a truck) two klipsch pro KTP 484 subs to sit in between my 3 lascalla front speakers, and i can tell ya its sweet.I just used a Y adapter to the Dynaco 416 L-R inputs from the single on the Bryston processor..aka i have one ktp 484 per channel. IT KICKS !!!,specially with the lascalla horns running full range.A buddie of mine wants to out do this setup by having another 484 sub on the back channels....lol Help !!earthquake 2 comes to our neighborhood.
  7. Jason far as i know...i am normal. As for the typeing thing,i just keep typing untill it falls off the end of the page and starts a new line. Unless someone has gone in and changed something on this machine and it just comes out this way.?? Anwyay's..i've decided that I won't be posting for a while so it will give your eyes a rest. Rob
  8. DJK thanks man gee,..don't know what direction i will take on that...given my DIY past history !! lol..(wont go into that) i appreciate your reply though... I may check with Tom Manley at audio refurb. It makes me wonder if i really need it though But might kick myself for not getting it later kinda like..after..selling my corwalls then Klipsch discontinuing them. yeah....like that but man..WHAT A AMP !!! this thing just does not give up!! it really does stand up to the big Mac's ! Rob
  9. ha! I just have to reply to this one too!! Im kinda lucky in the fact that my other half trust my judgement in selecting top gear, But she just hates looking at the stuff so....... The reason that we will be getting Corner horns is that we both agree that they are incredible instruments and awesome furniture ! she loves the look of them Which is good for me because i will be able to pic the top style and finish. I allways say,.. the klipschorn is justlike a Steinway..a quality instrument in detail and finish.... 2) The reason i am working on our full home cinema, and she approves , is that she is a big movie buff,..AND not a stitch of gear will show once its done. Everything is up behind the screen.. except the DVD player..of course. SO like in business,.... if you present things a certain way...they'll buy it! im lucky ROb
  10. Hmm guys i need your help on this one I recently picked up a beauty of an amp the Dynaco 416, and even more recently ive been hearing about a C-100 Energy storage capacitor bank , that could be had as an add on to the 416. Has anyone ever seen one on the second hand market? I purchase the amp for a private owner,..whom i know quiet well,.he did not have a c-100 in use with the 416 either. Mind you he used it to power tannoy wesminster I am using it to power my ktp 484 subs !! A big difference in application...and speaker So i would imagine that all the available pony's under the hood "would be an asset... But man..WHAT A AMP !!! THanks guys

I am no finish carpenter, but I do have a background in building houses. Of course you wouln't know it by the stupidity shown by me falling a measly 5 feet and breaking my wrist though. What about belles, how hard would they be to build. Thanks guys. ---------------- Hi Moon it really depends on the person Folded horns are a different kind of creature! read my post to a reply, elsewhere here to a guy who wants to build klipschorns. if i cut to the chase,..its about a Neighbor of mine who attemped to build a set of Belles! well...anyway's you'll get the idea hope this helps. As i may have mentioned in an earlier post i beleive is a prescription for the funny farm to quote my earlier post..somewhere here. I have a neighbor that was completely convinced that he could build a set of Belle Klipsch (a dressed up lascalla) Well, a good month or so past when Belle #1, was finnally completed,.. The speaker was taken into the living room and wired up to his mcintosh amp pre-amp set. After listening to several things,..we determined that it sounded awfullREALLY awfull Raw,.thin...dry.! Nothing like the set we had heard in the showroom ,..thats for sure. After supreme dissapointment, the speaker was stored in the back of the garage for months untill a teen down the street bought the speaker ..because ..YES it could play LOUD. It had that going for it. THE Construction on the second Belle,. was never started. The wood for that cabinet, im told, went into making a cabinet for the kitchen dishwasher. Folded horns can be torture,. if one mistake is made. MInd you,,..the heritage speakers have drivers that we selected for THAT model. meaning,..usually( you can't buy these off the shelf)...ignoring Ebay..for a min.)UGH!! SO half the ingredients are missing from the start. EG: a JBL 2225 is not a k 33 ...and so on I had a buddy who built MCM bass cabinets,. with some sucess,.. But thats a much bigger folded horn. But even then,...they were not like the ones From that little town called Hope. Still didn't have that "sound" hope this helps Rob
  13. DJK Sony went out the window, for me after the glory days with hi fi like the 7045 reciever and tc377 tape recorder, and the 8088f tuner. Those were original. After that it became alot of box stuffing and cheap power supplies. ANd it doesn't say much when the Realistic TM1000 tuner beats out anything engineering wise in the entire sony tunerline of its time. lol.... TM 1000 was a very nice tuner by the way Don't let the name scare you away. p.s Our last video screen,. we chose the Panasonic over the trinitron. no question. Rob

The Technics', however, are still round and I'm sure were still meant to be in with the mid-fi genre and nowhere near Levinson stature. They retailed for about $800/pair in 1981. The driver face is made out of a honeycomb-foil. They are very lacking in the bass dept. (8" non-ported woofs) but they do carry what looks like a Hyle tweeter but some say it's just a ribbon variety. I may still bring these out of retirement to use in my study at home. Up until a month ago I had the matching bookshelf pair (the SB-3's two ways) but I sold them to someone in California. Strange, he paid for all the shipping from Ohio to near San Francisco. ---------------- T... THere is a local radio station here in ottawa 106.9 rock(the bear) that uses SB-7 in their master control room The room is half moon shaped and is live on only one wall and these monitiors ,which are recessed in the wall sound fab! They are powering out of a Bryston 2B Very nice,..but i have never seen the sb-7 in the stores.. p.s that ribbon tweeter is nice and flat too almost k-77 sounding.. rob
  15. ---------------- On 1/19/2003 5:57:36 PM HornEd wrote: Thanks, muleman, my favorite ex-wife would probably say "muleman" fits me better than "HornEd"... for I tried over a dozen subwoofers configurations before my present 7' dual SVS Ultra sub tower... even to the point of using five Klipsch subs in a 6.1 system! Now, if that doesn't earn mule ears on a Klipsch head I don't know what does. I understand your "Forte-II-Love" affair since I have one with Klipschorns in the corner and a Belle in the middle (a la PWK)... with a pair of Cornwalls on the sides and an Academy bringing up the rear (effects). Using the stacked Ultras provides a round 16" footprint which not only saves floorspace, but also allows maximum advantage from a single corner. Since you indicated a lack of floorspace for a sub, you might consider one of the more economical SVS PCi's with internal BASH amps can go much lower than the RSW crowd with greater authority. The RSW-15 has more mid bass "slam" but it comes at a much higher cost, requires more floorspace, and still doesn't get as low. Besides getting down to 16 Hz with authority, my Ultras provide a transparent integration with either my Legend-based HT or the Klipschorn based audio wheter in three-channel stereo or multi-channel CD's. The 12" drivers are quick enough to keep up with the music... a trait that is also a particualry strong point of the RSW family. Of course, there is no center for your system like another Forte II for HT... but, from my own experience, the much heralded Academy makes a great center for three-channel stereo music... but, IMHO, falls to only good for HT because of its timbre matching shortfall. But, it's probably a closer match than you have for the Forte II's. The Reference line is a wonderful addition to the Klipsch line... but is simply not "voiced" like your Fortes. The latest reference level data from Dolby Digital suggests that subwoofers be able to attain 115 dB for HT... and 121.5 dB for professional theaters. It takes a doubling in power to raise an subwoofer's SPL's by 6 dB. The reason for the high SPL potential in your subs is that, in the Dolby Digital example, sounds that are very lound usually last for less than a second... thus, there is no damage to one's ears (or so they tell us) but an indispensible attribute of realism in a "LIVE" sound has been met. That is a factor that few people plan for in buying subwoofers. That means that there is no single subwoofer I know of under $2k (not counting DIY) that can really do the whole job for awesome HT... and I am a person who uses the "awesome" word sparsely. If you have read many of my posts on the HT subject, muleman, you know that having an adequate subwoofer is second only to having an adequate front center channel... and I prefer timbre-matched elegance to forced speaker induced ambience. But, hey, people have to build a system that works for them... and that is a primary contributer to commiting us all to the long, mega-buck, Klipsch-based upgrade trail. Clearly, getting a solid idea about the kind of HT and music target system you desire goes a long way to making that upgrade path more cost effective. The difference between a well-balanced system with adequate front center and subwoofer array becomes an audio-thing-of-beauty... may it be yours! =HornEd PS: Of course, PWK's approach in what is now called the Heritage line was to provide all the range one needs to enjoy almost all the notes of a classical orchestra. So, I use the tall sub array with the Klipschorns when I am on a bottom-scraping organ binge. ---------------- hornEd good post ed! what you were saying about subs, weighing cost versus ablilty,..is VERY true Im using ktp 484 subs with the lascalla fronts its a good match, because the 3 front lascalla are so darn agressive. But.. im using a Dynaco 416 to power the 484 subs A few horsepower are needed for these unpowered babies. .....thats the tradeoff. The BIG (and heavy) outboard amp. but there's nothing like a pro sub* no "mush"!! Ps .My subs are not used for music cd's! I do agree with your QUote on PWK's belief for full spectrum of "music reproduction from the heritage speakers that they do very well.!! Enjoy! Rob
  16. Hi HDBR oh.?i wasn't sure that he was after a reciever specifically. cool I just thought he wanted GOOD sound. the 730, and the A402 are simillar inside anyhoo....less the tuner.. as for surround...well......... alot of the surround recivers (mass) are just awful. Start with a real bang up amp stage,..then try surround later... Rob
  17. *oops JRuss well..maybe the 2 amps i mentioned won't be] had for under $200. But WORTH considering if you want to take a big step up in sound..when you are ready sorry man..$200 may not do it for these but it won't be that much higher Rob
  18. JRuss it had me curious too,.so I checked and TEchnics never made a Tube amp. IF you want to keep it under 200, try finding a well cared for Harman/Kardon A402 ITs a solid state, but touches on the CItation sound of the earlier tube amps of H/K And its a REAL 40 wpc,,dual power supplies and a link at the back where you can split the power amp/pre-amp, so you can use the amplifier and control center individually. Plus it has the famous tri colour 2 channel power display on the front,.just like the Citations....of later yrs You can find them on Ebay,..or at some of the better used Hi FI stores All in all a good value. Another choice would be a Dynaco Sca 80Q equally as nice, and as flexible 40W channel and a warm tube sound Both of these amps are solid state. this is the kind of amp you will want with the Lascalla,.. NOthing too agressive,.like alot of the japanese recievers are. you WILL notice a difference.... hope this helps Rob
  19. I did what you are thinking of doing, with My 81 Cornwalls. Biamping is a very tricky thing to get right. Epecially,... with the folded horn models. I must admit, the system did sound good biamped Even when using two identical MCintosh SS amps But there's a certain magic in the Klipsch passive crossover. And i have to admit,. i liked the sound of the system better when going back to the single amp, using the klipsch passive network. Don't forget,.these are highly effecient speakers,.. Biamping comes into play when you are in sound re-inforcement,big rooms etc. But a home with the heritage line...its not worth the extra time and MONEY . Because.you'll need two of everything to biamp ANd it should be a TIME Alligned Crossover. which is $$$$$$ And set-up can be tricky. Its a procedure that PWK frowned on. To quote: why hang 3 identical stoves off a klipschorn, and not hear a significant audible difference. enquote.(from PWK) I remember a old co-worker of mine, called Hope, to talk to someone in the factory about tri- amping his Lascalla's It was around closing time ,.so wouldn't ya know that the man himself PWK,answered the phone...and for the next 25 min, PWK described why...multi amp/crossovers were a bad idea for home use. PWK told him that the only consideration he would give to biamping the lascalla was for large room sound re-enforcement... And even then he recommended the commercial Lascalla to do it with. it was an interesting call.... hope this helps Rob

Klipsch K-horns of the 'Stephen's option' era were equipped with University SAHF mid-drivers and a wooden/fiberglass curved horn. I would be leary of these. In other words what yr do you remember? The more i read your post here,. the more I realize i might be wrong. Which was the point i was trying to point out in the other post,.is that the seller is saying that the version he is selling is a 3 way ,but he is also pointing out that the factory "standard" klipschorn is a 2 way I know that it WAS a 2 way untill PWK realized that recordings were becoming extended in range enough that warranted a tweeter unit , because the k/400 just couldn't make it all the way up to those high notes! I could be wrong on all of this,. but i thought the seller was mistaken in saying his was supperior to the 2 way of the day. maybe it is ... I saw he had two separate auctions for Heresy components, but no cabinets. I emailed him, asking about the cabinets. He told me the sets came out a local tavern and were damaged pretty bad. I asked for pictures which he provided. We then aggreed on a selling price and I fixed them up pretty nice. If you saw the pics of my HT, you now can't tell they were damaged. I also got a deal on two K77 tweeters for $78 off Ebay. And a pair of K22's for $80 something dollars. In those cases, I saved money and matched drivers to my existing "vintage" of components instead of settling on new modern day drivers. I know there's a buyer born every min, but MAN !!!! are people so bloody cheap?? I mean...they bought the speakers to begin with...right? Didn't mind spending $$$$$,on cornerhorns then would you part out a vintage mustang with the 302, just because cheapness ruled out and could not be bothered to trailer it to its new home??
