  1. 2 KHorns fit in a longbed. If you are planning to carry them upright I'd think they would fit. I rented a ton of blankets at local UHaul. Oddly a one way rental was much cheaper than returning to where I picked them up. No clue if in boxes ...
  2. one in a million by the Tuberz???? maybe called she's a beauty or something like that?
  3. BHenry - any update on reults? I'm curious. Thanks
  4. #1 Kinda Simple Way - load iTunes or whatever and point it at the library (load music if required) on your storage device. Plug a cable into headphone out and split to two RCA's and input into receiver. #2 Less simple - same as above but if using: PC - ASIO or bypass Kmixer output into DAC into pre/recvr/amp MAC - USB output into a DAC into pre/rcvr/amp The hard drive will probably still spin for iTunes or the Media player unless you put that onto flash or similar storage. It will probably still spin some as boot disk. The flash may not give you "simple" ultra portability across media players if that's a goal. Spinning storage is still most cost effective isn't it?
  5. Mark - shhhhhhh, don't admit that!
  6. Coytee, Sending you an email
  7. Not positive, but I had heard WAV's don't transfer that data. AIFF does I think. So I agree with Canadian Dude. Never tested it, just read that somewhere and avoided WAVs ever since.
  8. Ordered a set with the book about 6 months ago too. Also Zep Mothership.
  9. Look for DVD Decrypter on the net. It's free if you can grab it. I think there may be a new owner and they are stopping downloads, but it's worth a shot. I've used it for years. There are others too that can rip the audio and or video. I'd set iTunes import to Lossless with error correction selected and see if you can import from those folders you created into iTunes. It might get the song data and cover art for you. Then you can erase the old file.
  10. Coytee, Think you are talking about cover flow view, one of the 3 views - I really like that too. iTunes, as far as I know will auto lookup the song data, but you have to tell it to update the covers. It's in the menu, have an internet connection and tell it to go find covers. You can also manually add the ones that are missing. Sometimes it gets a little confused, especially on albums where there are a lot of guest artists and you have to put the album back together. Like Rodger Water's live in Berlin. It will probably think you're loading 15 albums or so. You can do a search for say Rodger Berlin and get all the songs in a group, then manually edit the data and perhaps make the composer Rodger Waters. Then you might need to manually add cover art. Cover Flow takes a little tweaking and has no real effect on the iPod, but the song grouping, or lack thereof will. Seems to me that greatest hits albums, collaborations and such take a little tweaking at times to get them back together. Or, sometimes you might put 4 cd's like Clapton's Crossroads into one giant album. If you get multiple copies of the same song, you can probably select view and get bit or sample rates showing, then click on the column to sort by that field. Then you can delete all the lower bitrate stuff as it's grouped together. If you are going to just do iPod stuff only, I'd also suggest Apple Lossless. It's in the vein of FLAC, not compressed, but somewhat zipped. AIFF is similar to WAV and may for some have tagging advantages, but again, if it's just for iPod Lossless is great. Be sure to turn error correction on as you load up iTunes.
  11. iTunes no FLAC, lossless is closest I think
  12. I'll take a shot at it Coytee First, welcome to the iPod world. I like mine. I don't know how much music you have, but a good starting point would be to choose Apple Lossless. You might be there by default - I think it's under advanced preferences importing. Also, check error correction on. From there, as you add new stuff AIFF and WAV are uncompressed and take the most space. Lossless is Apple compression and quite good. Then you get into all the MP3 and variable bit rate options. Many folks avoid those, but they do make smaller files. Downloads are typically of this more compressed format, but not all are by any means. A typical 99 cent download is compressed. I use uncompressed AIFF for everything, but I have "heard" the more compressed files sound the worst with headphones. So, it's a trade between space and quality. iTunes capacity is limited by your computer. iPod limited by the iPod size. You can have more in iTunes and select what to load to your iPod. You can have multiple libraries which make it more complicated. Grab a cd and import it using different formats. iTunes should dump them all into the same group and you can select view bit rate etc to see which file is which. Listen to them and you can decide what's right for you. Then you will have a good strategy for future imports. Hope that helps
  13. I had no clue these guys we touring - tics went on sale today and looks like it's 2/3 sold after a couple hours. Stanley and Al! OMG. Return To Forever Headliner 1 Chick Corea Headliner 1 Al DiMeola Headliner 1 Stanley Clarke Headliner 1 Lenny White Program Although membership in the band has evolved over the years, the current group of Chick Corea on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Lenny White on drums and Al DiMeola are reuniting for this special tour after more than 25 years and brings together the world’s most talented musicians on their respective instruments. Best known for albums such as Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, Where Have I Known You Before, No Mystery (1975 Grammy® Award winner for Best Jazz Performance by a Group) and Romantic Warrior, a reunion of this significance at Ruth Eckerd Hall is indeed a rare treat.
  14. Any opinions on the Oppo 980 versus the 983? Both have USB which I value.
  15. Thanks Dave - I think I'll study the 1BX and 4BX more, rather just target the right thing first go round.
  16. Hey Dave, Locally a guy has a DBX III comp/expander for I think a hundred bucks. Looks okay, but like more of a rack mount than the wood sided version. I recall some of your comments about these for playing vinyl. Think that it would be useful to me? Can't argue about the price if he still has it ... Thanks IT
  17. Gee sorry, I thought your post ended with a question so I responded. Next time I'll be sure to agree with you. DOH, silly me. I thought you wanted some alternate opinions.
  18. I vote not perfect I agree with rplace, the eggs are nice. Also pretty expensive, but really nice especially for slow cooking. I'm not a big fan of Ducane anymore after watching two die from usage. Just don't get hot enough either. For charcoal, and just grilling for two, I use this - http://www.amazon.com/Weber-40020-Smokey-Charcoal-Grill/dp/B00004RALP/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1207600001&sr=8-1. It gets hotter than heXX and doesn't waste a lot of coal. In fact it will snuff it out and you can relight it to use again. For bigger feasts using coal I use one of these - http://www.amazon.com/Weber-758001-2-Inch-One-Touch-Charcoal/dp/B00005V5ZS/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1207600080&sr=1-24. Bar none it is the best coal grill I've used. I love that thing. Ditto on the snuff and save. For gas, if I was to buy one now I think I would look real hard at http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100606085. It got a good review in consumer reports and lots of brand names did not. It has a rotisserie too I think. I just don't care for the look of it. Also for gas I would buy this today if it had a rotisserie, http://www.weber.com/bbq/pub/grill/2007/gas/GenesisE320.aspx. It doesn't, so I am waiting. For smoking, based on the design and quality the egg probably would best suit me. But I am a bit too cheap I fear, so I went with the http://www.weber.com/bbq/pub/grill/2005/charcoal/cg_sg_smk.aspx. It is really a good tool for smoking. It can smoke quite a bit of poundage and is efficient. The main issue I have with that entire genre of cooker/smoker things made out of the black metal be it Brinkman or whatever is that they really take a lot of fuel of whatever sort to do the job. They have never struck me as particularly "tight". The Egg or the Weber smoker can probably use a twig compared to the others needing a branch if not tree. I use coal almost for everything anymore. With a chimney its a snap. You need a couple good thermometers (digital is fine) and a chimney. Gas is convenient tho I suppose .... Steve Raichlen is King! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=Steven%20Raichlen Happy Grilling
  19. I loved it and now have my own air tank at work, in case somebody pisses me off. Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffft. Problem dealt with! And I can open vending machines faster than a crackhead can light his pipe.
  20. What I see happening to me on old LPs is that even if I clean them they sometimes gunk up the needle. I was using the Discwasher and solution. I just ordered one of these http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100775&navAction=jump&navCount=1&id=prod2223146 and it's free ship if you spend $50. I think there is a $10 rebate but it's a little vague. I'm also trying out homemade cleaning solution. I ordered 99.9 % isopropyl from Walgreens pharmacy and got some distilled water (not lab grade). Mixed it 50/50. Some people put a drop of detergent in it. So far, I like it. Dries faster than when I grab the dishwater sponge. I do this for the first play of garage sale records to see if there worth keeping.
  21. I use a 2150 on a Niles box with VRDs and it sounds great. Also has a USB input which makes it handy for digital music from laptop. Two things I've noticed that are odd are first, if playing via the USB input and I turn on a CD, even tho I didn't change input source to CD, the audio on the PC comes on and it stops going to the amp. Second, the input selector is "more" digital than mechanical it seems, and if you rotate it too fast it doesn't end up where you want it to be. Slow works. Overall it's really grown on me and I'm actually thinking about a 2nd for the bedroom, but I'll probably try something else just for the sake of change.
  22. I have quite a few of the ones listed and I'd choose Delicate Sound of Thunder as DVD just to watch the backup singers. They just do it for me, especially Rachel Fury .... and her two pals. No comparison to other backup ladies on other DVDs.
  23. The both sound wonderful and he still gets my wife ... worked up. The album is getting pricey as it's out of print for months, see one on eBay for $81 with a day to go. The concert tour has sold very well. We live in Tampa and finally bought tickets to go see them in Birmingham. The have a show on CMT that you can probably still find to record, maybe a Storytellers show. It's quite good. She sings When The Levee Breaks and he does The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn. Duet on Black Dog and many others.
