  1. They are indeed rare. At least several left-right pairs were made as special orders. This pair shipped to the Music Box in Wellesley Mass.

  3. Sorry, but the "hysterian" does not know the serial number when the problem was resolved. I do not remember the C7 showing the problem.
  4. Small correction: The "original" Cornwall II was when the K-600 horn replaced the K-1000.
  5. The first Khorn (X-3) had a Jensen A-12 woofer and a WE 555 HF. I'm sure many substitutions were made over the years. The next 12 made by Baldwin (1947) had WE 713 A's for HF, and at least one had a JBL woofer. From 1948 on Stephens was a standard woofer. Bob Stephens was a personal friend. Some units used the drivers that the customer supplied! Stephens, Electro Voice and Jensen were the main players in the 50's. JohnA is correct that Vitavox was the first licensee of the Klipschorn, and PWK did not to my knowledge ever sell a product with Vitavox drivers, unless possibly supplied by the customer.

  8. One more addition. Electro-Voice took the AR patent to court and had it invalidated. We have communication in 1970 between Howard Souther (formerly of EV) and PWK regarding this.
  9. Yes, Paul tested everything he could get his hands on. The Altec A7 was the "target" when designing the LaScala. The museum has about seventy 3-ring binders chock full of curves going back to 1960. It is certainly a goal AT SOME POINT to sift thru them and make some available. PWK and Vilchur "went at it" in the October 1957 edition of Radio-Electronics magazine.
  10. When Klipsch started using computers, everything serial number-wise went to "something" in a handbasket.
  11. 18S709 and 710 were shipped to "Sound Center" 12/28/78. Unfortunately the logbook offers no more clues.
  12. WE have the pair of LaScalas! One on display and one needing a little veneer love. The LaScala debuted full-size with a 15" woofer. The very rare "runt" version came shortly thereafter with a 12". Some of those were used by Bob Heil as monitors for Jeff Beck.
  13. Klipsch tried to buy this one several years ago, but the seller was "difficult" to work with.
  14. The J designation came after the "boats" were removed. Prior horns with boats used at least the F and D designations. Not sure of the complete evolution and designations (yet). HF horn serial numbers do not line up with system numbers. PWK built K-5's in the tin shed (and later) for sale individually.
  15. Yes, the CP-1 was the pro version and quite rare.
  16. The K-43 made by Eminence accounts for 10-15# increase in weight. Also a spilt cabinet has more wood in it. Sorry HDBRbuilder, but the LaScala started with a 15' woofer from the beginning (1963).
  17. The K-22-R was a second source to the Eminence K-22-E for several years. R stands for Rola, and was the last woofer I designed for them prior to coming to Klipsch.
  18. They shipped together to Audio Center in Albuquerque on 11/20/62. K77, K55V, K33J, W6 network. They were D style.
  19. 779 shipped to K.L.A Labs on 10/25/54 as a woofer only. 1096 shipped to Customode Products Co. of Pontiac, Michigan on 9/27/56 as a complete system. 15WK woofer, SAHF mid, and 4401 tweeter.
  20. Cabinart sold many products as kits, thus the EV knob. I would definitely crack these open to see what drivers were used. Some can be quite pricey.
  21. Sorry for the belated response. I think WMcD is pretty much on track, and would bet a hypothetical sum (PWK-ism) that it started out as a stock Klipsch product and received some skilled modifications. Further internal pics might provide the final proof. Highly unlikely to find a mate.
  22. Your Heresy's left the factory with Electro-Voice SP-12-B woofers. I see no record of Cletron woofers ever being used. The other drivers appear to be stock. If the capacitors are not leaking oil, they are very likely OK and just need re-mounting. There were three H-12's built in 1957. 1958 saw another 30 built. Serial numbers 134 - 176 were made in 1959. 177 - 204 in 1960. 1961 saw the old style and new style mixed. If they were mine, I would try to find original woofers and restore them to stock. Not the optimum sound attainable, but historically significant.
