  1. You have seen the price list that says raw finishes were furnished without cloth. I have had a motor board out of one of my cabinets as I was planing at the time to have a vertical one cut so I could use it as a center. There were no staple holes. Take it for what it is worth, I don't care if you believe me or not.
  2. That is quite a bit more than I bought 12VBs for 2 years ago. Shop around.
  3. NO DO NOT DO THIS. The grill cloth is very sensitive to heat and will shrink or melt. Trust me I have actually used a heat gun to shrink Klipsch cloth to make it tight in a frame. In my experience the badges come right of with little effort and no extreme measures.
  4. You would have to spend an awful lot of money to do better than that Accuphase, But if you have it you probably have the means to buy a really good tube amp. I personally think I would go the class A solid state route if I was going to spend tons of cash on amps. Less trouble and great sound.
  5. I mean no million little holes from all the staples.
  6. I think it is just perspective of the photo. The Lascala looks large in proportion to the Khorn also.
  7. I got them used but if they had been changed I would be able to tell. there is absolutely no evidence of ever being non removable grills.
  8. I have some 74 cabinets, serial# letter M that came with removable grills.
  9. I have already paid for the Crites. I just want to know if they are better, worse, or the same, and in what ways, as the K33s. I have much to do and little time, so I would rather not be changing woofers out for the same result. If the Crites ones are better I will do it. My Khorns are 86s if that makes any difference.
  10. I am putting together some 74 cornwalls for my garage. I have a pair of new cast woofers. If they are actually an upgrade I will pull the stock K33s out of my Klipchorns and instal the new woofers. If not I won't go to the trouble and will just use them in the corn walls. The Khorns are my priority sound wise, The cornwalls are really only being done because I found some empty cabinets for $20 a few years ago and have now sourced the parts to complete them.. Has any one done any comparisons and what did you think. Is there any increase in power handling (could I safely increase the size of the fuse on the Khorns, ect ect.
  11. The belles look great. How much would you charge to build one of those?
  12. Subs will actually usually measure better in a basement, but the tactile sensations transmitted through the suspended floor are not there. To get as much subjective impact on a concrete floor takes a lot of sub power. The result feels very different but even more impressive when you achieve it.
  13. I would get the best front three I could afford now and worry about the surrounds next year afer I saved a little more. Use your current surrounds and get the RF7s. You will reget it if you buy lesser fronts.
  14. thanks bobdog, how big is your room and do you feel they would work well in a 3000 cu. ft room? Have you heard the KPT-8-VB? Room is 19'x32' 4800 or so sq/ft. I actually think they would work great in any room but you really can't use them up to their potential unless you own a large commercial theater. They really are a bargain though and cheaper than Klipsch's top of the line home theater surrounds. I have not heard the 8s but on occasion I have heard fairly low frequency come out of the surrounds, so I think going for the 12" is a good idea. I set their crossover frequency at 55. You can't do that with many.
  15. I love the KPT 12 VBs. I have set up Lascalas as surrounds temporarily, and I much prefer the VBs for movie effects. For 5 channel music (I mean 5.1 studio mixes not concert films) I will say the Lascalas were my choice but not by enough that I could deal with them being in the way all the time. There would be no way to incorporate them into my room that would look OK to me either. As Far as the Woofer being the same as the Heresy iii I don't know Klipsch lists the VB as using a KP-281 EP which could be the same for all I know but they also spec the VB as handling 400 watts continuous and 1600 peak which I am sure would fry a Heresy in short order.
  16. For sale? Why did you replace them and with what?
  17. Is the efficiency the same? If so I am pretty I will be fine with the Ms.
  18. A couple of years ago I bought a pair of empty cornwall cabinets. I have no need for them in the house and so I have decided to fill the cabinets and hang them from the ceiling in the corners of my garage/shop. I have finally sourced a pair of K600 horns. I need crossovers, woofers and maybe K 55Vs. I am planning to purchase cast frame woofers, install them in my Khorns and use the stamped K33s in the cornwalls. The questions I have are about the networks and mid drivers. 1.What are the differences between the different B networks? 2. I have an extra pair of K55M drivers in the closet. Would it really matter if I used them instead of sourcing K55Vs? For tweeters I have both the round and square types sitting on a shelf so I am covered there. Any info or experiences will help me to look for the right stuff.
  19. I will take the horns. I will also buy the package if Adoremusic backs out.
  20. I have talked to Danley about it and they say put the mouths right next to each other, not on opposite sides. The closer they are, the higher in the freq spectrum they will couple.
  21. 80 watts should be plenty, but Khorns deserve a better amp IMHO. The other thing is, and this is not my opinion alone, You absolutely need a subwoofer (one capable of very high output) for home theater.
  22. I think he is asking too much. Also if it were me I would be looking for Forte IIs or even Chorus IIs. 5 years ago I bought mint pair of IIs (as in they looked and sounded brand new in every way packed in the original boxes) for $550 off Ebay. I have also passed on a $600 set of minty Chorus IIs for sale locally to me. Be patient.
  23. I you were able to do a DR rating of this CD and DVD, I would bet $5 (US) that the DVD scores much higher on the DR Rating scale. Here is the CD rating from the DR Database, which really isn't a spectacular score: http://www.dr.loudness-war.info/details.php?id=10135. My guess is that this is the difference that you might be hearing - not so much the format difference. Chris The CD of Massey hall is not a compressed version. It should have the same DR score. The DVD sounds better (more you are there) but not a huge difference. The LP on the other hand really sounds real. A huge difference. This recording is one you can't judge by the DR scale. All the dynamics are intact, and it sounds great.
