  1. I was in an audio store listening to some klipsch speakers and the salesman told me a story about a proffessional drummer that he know that would only use klipsch heresys, nothing else would do for him. Since you have a sub, this might be an option too. the heresy has a liveliness to it and mid bass punch that I love.
  2. That first listening sessin is always fun. Let them settle in for a few weeks so you can really get a good comparison. Good to have the option to keep the cornwalls too. Have fun!
  3. That is a good progression I think.Cornwall, La Scala.....
  4. Congrats, sbin. Those are nice. Let us know how you like them. Tim
  5. Looks like a win-win. You got the high end of price range and that is fair if they are mint. The buyer got a great pair of speakers with no added travel time and expense, and neither of you had to hassle with shipping.
  6. Jeff and I have had a couple of transactions and he's been to my home. Wouldn't hesitate a bit to do business with him again. Tim
  7. Congrats Rhetor and please let us know your impressiions when you get it running!
  8. They do sound great loud but...I'm surprised to hear this about the low levels because I listen to these at low levels most of the time and have enjoyed them immensely. But when guys with knowledge and experience make these comments it has me wondering what I'm missing! So now ALK Jr's are in the mix and AK-5. BTW Mark: these are the speakers you talk about owning in your earlier post with the ALK ES crossovers w/auricaps. I bought them from fenderbender. Beautiful and sound fantastic.
  9. Appreciate the responses very much. Dean and Mark, do you guys think the ALK ES crossovers are lacking when it comes to playing at low levels?
  10. I think its about $750 each so $1500 for both speakers.
  11. More of the same here. Like my Forte II's better without a sub for music. Same goes for my khorns. My brother-in-law runs a sub with cornwalls and a heresy for movies and games and it sounds really good though.
  12. Been thinking about getting the AK-5 upgrade package for my '96 khorns that now run stock except for the ALK ES crossovers. The AK-5 upgrade package includes a new tweeter, midrange driver, and AK-5 networks (K-33-E woofer is still the same). I'd like to hear opinions and experiences from as many of you as care to respond. This is a tough decision. They sound great as is but the thought of in effect converting them to 2013 khorns is intriguing. Steve from Klipsch tecjnical support said he converted his 1977 khorns to AK-5 and he wouldn't take anything for them. Tim
  13. All good experiences here with forum members. had several forum members to my home here in central AR and sold gear to them and have visited several and bought gear from them. I went to seti's house and got a pair of khorns then later he came to my house and bought them back! I very much prefer to sell gear to guys that are local and can come and listen and look and I hate the whole shipping thing. All of them were nice guys and LOVED to talk about audio. Very knowledgeable and I just soak it up like a sponge being somewhat of a novice myself. Tim
  14. Not surprise you hit the wow moment with heresies. They may be my second favorite klipsch speaker after khorns. There is something very special about them.
  15. Overpaying is never a no-brainer. My point is that one guys' overpaying is another guys' perfect deal depending on many factors. How much time he wants to spend watching for deals, how far he wants to drive, how long he plans to keep the the speakers, etc.
  16. If I was really wanting a pair of cornwalls I could easily justify paying 1000 bucks 10 minutes from home. Saving a couple hunderd bucks on gas possibly plus a hotel room maybe. Your time is valuable too and they are practically next door. Would you get a thousand bucks worth of value out of them? I would. Just depends on how you look at it. If you forget about market comparison and just look at value, it could be considered a no-brainer by some. The cane grills are cool too.
  17. Dave, I have that recording and that is a great track to show what the knorns can do. The bass is really tight, clean and deep. Just an impressive recording all around.
  18. Have the klipschorns in my main system now and also own a pair of chorus II's. Have had all the others you listed in my room except la scalas. Khorns are no doubt the best with the orchestra/classical type music. BTW, for me, they are the best of that group with any type music including rock. Some have said they like chorus II's better with rock. Once in a while I hook up my chorus' in the same room just for fun. The chorus' are fantastic speakers in their own right but inevitably I am itching to get the khorns back in the rotation. Their is just no comparison to my ears. They are incredible speakers.
  19. Never tried the Emotiva gear but have been interested after hearing good reports. Like to try the xpa-200 with my khorns. The input impedence is a good match for my JM BBX pre. There are not that many solid state amps that are a match. If you get one let us know how you like it.
  20. Have had Fortes and have khorns now. Have heard the la scalas. Strictly for that room, i'd stay with the fortes. The la scalas will not reach down as low without a sub. For a room large enough(subjective), I'd go la scalas w/sub. BTW, congratulations on finding an audio-friendly wife. I'm lucky enough to have one too.
  21. My vote would also be extned that wall out just a bit and make it optimum at some time. Now while you are possibly doing other work on a new house or later if you have too much to do now. I would definitely stick with the khorns either way. Tim
  22. Congrats! I just love heresies.
  23. Wonder what the input impedence is for that amp. Not finding it on the site. Anyone know?
