  1. Well, that's true to some degree. You will probably see a bit of an improvement, but it won't be night and day. DVDs, etc, will look pretty good when scaled to 1080p. VCR tapes, not so much, they might even end up looking worse (flaws will be more evident, no 3/2 pulldown flag, etc). On another note, you have a VCR that outputs component video?
  2. So it has HDMI, does it carry sound and video or just video? My guess is that the HDMI is for video switching only (because it says HDMI passthrough), and you still need a seperate audio connection. Not that it's a huge deal, but to me, that's one of the main advantages of HDMI, is that it's a one-cable solution. (Plus the advanced surround formats)
  3. His face got messed up because he quit acting to become a boxer.
  4. I got that today, too. I just refreshed the page and it went away. Some sort of glitch, I guess.
  5. Of COURSE he didn't let go of his $4.50 coffee, stupid yuppie scum didn't know enough not to wear ridiculous tennis shoes out in the frozen slush or imagine the consequences of attempting to traverse an ice covered ramp in same. It's BOOTS weather guys! M Again, it's a minor point of contention, but I don't think it's a $4.50 coffee. It looks like Dunkin' Donuts coffee. And I'm not sure he saved it either, looks like he gave it a pretty good squeeze in the last picture. (And speaking as someone who lives in the Frozen Tundra of Minnesota, I wear boots when I'm shoveling, or going to be outside for an extended period of time, but not as a day to day thing.)
  6. I don't think Blu-Rays are that much more to rent? But really, if you don't see the value in a Blu-ray, then by all means stick with the Toshiba. Personally, I will never purchase another regular DVD movie again, and only rent one if I have no other choice, but that's just me. Not trying to be elitist or anything, it's just I bought an HDTV so I could watch Hi-Definition.
  7. I thought olive loaf was bologna with olives in it?
  8. I thought it was an excellent movie. Depressing, but excellent. The sad thing is his life is the reality for a lot of professional wrestlers. I've looked up some of my old heroes, and it's pretty sad. Anyway, the movie, excellent, with top notch acting. Mickey Rourke definitely deserves the Oscar Nomination, and possibly the award (haven't seen all the others yet). And Marissa Tormei, at 44 years old. Wow!! Let's just say for all you gentlemen who appreciate the female form, you will enjoy this movie for her part in it, even if nothing else. Not to take away from her acting of course, she was also excellent in this movie. And yes, it is very much a shame that it had a limited release. I had to resort to "other methods" to watch this movie. A movie that I would have gladly shelled out the cash to see. I was very excited about it well before it was released. I don't understand why they do that.
  9. Exactly. I heard they actually made all of those millions back, too. And then some.
  10. That's clearly not a frappucino.
  11. If you are in PLII, and you start playing a dts source, the display should switch automatically. If it doesn't, you aren't getting dts. Check the settings on your DVD player, etc and make sure it is set to bitstream over a optical, digital coax, or hdmi connection.
  12. I definitely wouldn't pull money from stocks to buy a tv. You will end up paying way more for that tv than you think in the loss of compound interest. Well, that's assuming your stocks are actually gaining value.
  13. None. Just the plain old ProLogicII, which switches to DolbyDigital or dts when one of those tracks is playing.
  14. Sounds like a sweet set-up to me. I sincerely doubt you'd have any regrets with that system. Could you get a bigger, better receiver? Yes. Would I get one at the exclusion of the sub and rears? No way. If you had a few extra bucks, I'd go to a little bigger sub, maybe, but I think the RW-10 would be a pretty good match for the RF-82s.
  15. Yeah, it's crazy how cheap DLPs are now. 5 years ago they were the hottest thing on the market. Now, according to a friend of mine who manages an Ultimate Electronics store, they can't give the things away. 5 years ago they were selling 46 inchers for $4000 and couldn't keep them in stock. They wouldn't even give you a discount on them because of the high demand. And those TVs were only 720p.
  16. Best bet is to wire the Paradigms directly to your Receiver, and then run an RCA from the Subwoofer out on the receiver to the input on the sub.
  17. Ummm... Sorry guys, it sounds to me as if he was saying that Best Buy is soon to follow Circuit City, and will be bankrupt within a year. Anyway, I seriously doubt it, I think BB is doing pretty well.
  18. That's not the same TV. It doesn't do 120Hz, but still an ok deal. As far as Best Buy being out, it's a popular TV, and it's SuperBowl season. Add that to the fact that they probably aren't stocking as heavy due to the worries about the economy.

    Eagle Eye

Pretty exiting film. The only thing was, it was easy to figure out what was going on pretty early into the story.
  20. Well, the satellites use regular speaker wire connections, so I guess it would be possible. I'm not sure about the subwoofer though. I guess it works independent of the volume control, so you could use some sort of mini-to-rca adapter, it would probably have to be stereo because the plug that the promedia uses is for both center and subwoofer. Not sure about impedience, power handling, etc. though.
  21. So far the deals aren't that great 10% off most everything - you can probably get the same price at Best Buy. They had DVDs/Blu-Rays 20% off, nothing spectacular. I'll be checking back in a few weeks.
