  1. Stuck a pair of KSB-1.1s on the T-top of my boat today. They are on either side and pointing straight down. This was the most bestest way to hang them due to the design of the speakers mount and the T-Top. I have a flaccid car stereo (Sanyo CD/Tuner/AUX iPod input feeding a 25W amp) and yet they sound great! They are replacing a pair of JBLoutside speaks. They sound pretty darn sweeeet! If possible, I'd like "The Twins" (With Thebes blessing of course) to come down and give them a listen. It goes without saying that bikinis (or less) and alcohol are a requirement prior to the audition. I figure a mile or two off shore would be a suitable location.
  2. I don't think it will even be close at high volume, particularly with "loud" rock. Might I suggest Baba O'Reily with the big knob way up?? Please post and let us know what you think. As in yachting, there is no replacement for displacement. **Disclaimer - I have a serious Jones for some KLF 20s or 30s. And my neighbors have a serious Jones for the day Mayflower parks a semi in front of my domo.
  3. What a wonderful dilmma. Make your ears happy and keep the KGs. They're harder to find and you really seem to love them. You can always pick up some Heresies (or Fortes, Cornwalls, K-Horns, Bells etc) later. I have to say, my brother got a MINT pair of KG 5.2s on CL for 40 bucks and they are amazing speaks. The clarity is stunning. So, my guess is that the 5.5s are pretty schweet as well. Its your domo. To hell with what we think!
  4. First off, I have never heard Cornwalls so my opinon is pretty much worthless. But, I'm bored and working on a very nice Bloody right now and I have some time to opine. That being said, this forum has 14zillions posts about them and from what I gather, CWs are highly regarded and sought after. These have seen some rough handling but as previously mentioned, they could be cleaned up quite a bit and made to look decent. If you had the bucks, you could take them to a local cabinet shop and have them re-veneered. I have no idea what that would cost, but I'd bet that the speaks are worth it. WRT the stickers, I'd not sweat that. They probably spent the majority of their lives tucked up against walls where the sticker would see minimal abuse. I personally think his price is high given the cosmetics. And I think I'll have another.
  5. Last week I found a nice DVD player on eBay. It went for nothing. As in 5.00 bucks. I later get a note that he dropped and broke it while packing it. While this may have happened, I have had several deals fall through with suspicious explanations. I think he was sick that it wasn't bid up more. He did a lousy job on the bid (no pic, minimal info, marginal English etc) and most people are too lazy to look specs up so they just ignored it. Bottom line it went real cheap. But, I suppose you gotta pay to play. I have made some killer deals on ebay and CL and will continue to look, but a deal isn't a done deal until it lives in YOUR house.
  6. To me, the worst Jimi Hendrix recording out there is still worth owning. Some days I just need a long loud fix.
  7. Keep an eye on C List. I picked up a sweet pair of 3.2s (a bit rough but perfect for outdoors if you're willing to move them in and out) for nothing and 4 KSB 1s for 75 bucks. Two of them are going to be mounted on my boat this year. I had some JBL outdoor speakers and do not recommend them.
  8. I'll add my name to the Pandora list. Pay a small fee for the upgraded download. It can be a fine experience with varied and far reaching music. I love it and have tracked down probably 100 CDs in the last year as a result using the amazon music link provided with each song. Fairly decent Bios are also attached. But more importantly (to me) is the way they link a musician to others in the Bio. This allows you to sample a huge amount of music essentially for free and decide what you like. I spend a fair amount of time in front of my PC and will constantly add and remove songs and artists that they suggest and that I stumble across. I tend to keep my stations generic, ie "Reggae" , "Blues". "Twang", I then add to them over time and end up with some fantistic music.
  9. Congrats on the decision. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The other thing to consider, is the resale value of the Fortes....well on any decent Klipsch speaker really. If you keep them nice looking, you'll always be able to get your money back. I bought a set of mint walnuts from their original owner ($400) and could easily get for them what I paid. Free listening is pretty cool. I even got the mint factory boxes, so they'd walk right out of this place if I ever wanted to unload them. If you haven't already, visit Bob Crites site http://www.critesspeakers.com/ You'll find that he's got a wealth of information and parts / upgrades for them. It's nice to know that you'll be able to enjoy them for a long time. Enjoy your new speakers!
  10. By all means buy both! Set them up A/B, and find our for yourself. First pour yourself an appropriate adult beverage, then set out a nice stack of your fave vinyl or plastic and have at it. When you're done the KG4s will go GREAT in a spare bedroom (you do have an old schweeet vintage 2 CH set up don't you??), the basement, the garage / shop, the study, the den, the foyer, the dining room, the master bath, the portico, the head, the command center, the kitchen, the gym, the weight room, the mud room, the hallway, the attic, the office, the back of the VW bus, the duvet or the bidet, while the 3-way Fortes will make your ears happy in your pads main audio-torium digs. "Fortes.....for when you have yet to score some Cornwalls or Chorus.." (KHorns, LaScalas, Jubes, etc etc etc etc.)
  11. Uhhhh.... Joana Newsome?? Please pass the licorice. PS How does one imbed a link??? I am a stoopit luddite!!! PSS THANKS FINI !!!!!!!! I are gettin my edukashun on!
  12. Righteous unit. The dude loves vintage 2 CH stuff. Congrats and most importantly......enjoy!
  13. Song: Into the Night by Nickleback and their heinous sore throated shade wearing shreiker Chad Kroeger. I grew up listening to OLD ORIGINAL Santana.....ie...."Everything is coming our way" ....."No one to Depend On" etc. etc etc.... What a great band. What a gifted musician Carlos is. But, this is Carlos as his absolute worstest. If I were Elvis, and I had a gun, I'd shoot my computer....or TV if I was watching MTV which I never do. If you are going in for a colonoscopy and need to evacuate your gut and / or bowels, fire this wretch inducing example up. IT REALLY SUCKS! Warning- The surgeon general of the United States projectile vomited while listenin to this song. If his peristalsis couldn't overcome the overpowering putrefaction, chances are excellent that yours won't either. Sickness bags and or emergency relief containers are recommended. This public service was brought to you by a semi-intoxicated loser while sitting on the balcony of his San Juan hotel overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There are several dead 12 ounce soldiers within his sphere of influence (as well as a fabulous Romeo y Juliete No. 3).
  14. Actually, it's better than that. I also received a Yamaha RX V660 receiver in that deal! The ad for the 3.2s was vague and the picture worthless. All it said was "Klipsch speakers and SONY receiver and DVD player - $225" So I called and asked what model the speakers were and what fininsh. Told him that I wasn't interested in the receiver or the DVD. "So...how much for just the speaks?" He says "$95". I say, "Hmmmmm". Then he says, "don't forget, there's a center in there too" "Oh....what model is it? Is it a Klipsch also??" "Yes, Don't know the number, but I can go look" My fingers are now crossed.... "It says ACADEMY on the back". Long pause for dramatic effect........ "Soooo....Ninety- five for all three? If so, I'll take them." "Yes..." hahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!! After I get there (at 300 mph) he says......"I looked this thing up....you're getting quite a deal!" To which I replied....Man, is that the new Acura?? That thing is gorgeous! and went over to take a look at his car. Anything to change the subject! I handed him 100 bucks and started putting the speakers in my car. He then said, "Hey, do you need an amp? I've got this one that you can have. I think some of the lights may be out, and I don't want it. It's free." Guess what, it works perfectly. How's that for an awesome CL score??? The Black Satin Academy has a few minor scuffs, but is easily an 8 out of 10 and could be refinished to be a 10. But with it's relative size and location under the toob it's just fine the way it is. It sounds GREAT. The 3.2s are in a bedroom and the Yamaha is patiently awaiting resale...or I may just keep it. Last week an Academy went for 400 bucks on ebay! Hows that for LUCK?
  15. Initially I wasn't going to post since: 1) I'm a relative newcomer to the Klipsch bash and my experience with fantastic audio is thin, 2) I've never heard MANY of the big whammer jammer Klipsch speakers and because, 3) My gear is schifose when compared to what many of you own. 4) I have no tubes. Well, I HAVE tubes but the good Doctor truncated and cauterized them. Highly recommended BTW. But, since you asked (axed for you Hip-Hoppers)... My first K were my CF3s. I cannot desribe how much I love them. Prior to them, I had no idea what I've been missing since I bought my first (Kenwood / Bozak / Dual) set up l in the mid 70s. They're big, gorgeous and will they shake the house. They live in the main part of my domo, and crank on everything from Beethoven to Dinah Washington to Ryan Adams to Cream to Green Day. I just need more time off! A year or so later I bought a pair of Fortes and set them next to the CFs for an A/B comparison. To my ears, they sound completely different. Equally fantastic and bright, but different. Notice that I didn't say better or worse. I love them too. They live in my bedroom and spend 70% of their time at relatively low volume playing classical music. So...neither is "better". Then I picked up some Tangents for nothing. I find them bland and thin. Nice highs, but overall ho hum as compared to the others. No stugots. I gave them to my Dad. He's thrilled! He's 85 and spent 50 years as a professional musician. To say the music has been his life would be an understatement. Needless to say, I'm thrilled because he is. Next, I stole a pair of KSF 10.5s for 50 bucks. I did an A/B with the Fortes. I yawned. Gave them to my 16 year old daughter. She winds them up and grins. Needless to say I grin too. Nice speakers compared to 90% of what's currently sold at Best Buy but no comparison to my others. Last month I found a pair of KG 3.2s with an Academy for $95. I placed the 3.2s in my daughters room and did an A/B with the 10.5s. The 3.2s steal the show! These little mothers were a huge surprise! They have garage ( or third / fourth bedroom) written all over them. One day, I'll own a pair of LaScalas or Jubes or K Horns or Corns or......... till then I'll thorougly enjoy what I have and learn more from this site. Many thanks for all the assistance and insight I have gained from youz guys. Next to the Bada Bing, this is my favorite cult!
  16. No flames. This is a flame free thread. No conflgrationary commentary. Thou shalt not flame. The no flame rule shall set you free! Friends, I want you to place your hands upon the television set (OK....PC) and blaspheme, fulminate, vituperate, rebuke and rant all you want about what drives you nuts.....musically. PS... Thanks for reminding my about how much I hate Creed and Nickleback!........oh yeah and Phil Collins.
  17. Love it. I'm old school when it comes to 2CH. I picked up a mint Sansui G5700 (75wpc) off CL for 45 bucks. He lived less than 10 mins from my door. Last week I got an Academy Center, a pair of 3.2s and a nice old Yamaha receiver all for $95. Can't wait to see what's next.
  18. Back to the heinous tuneage.... Al Stewart. "Time Paaaaaaaassssssages......" Rod Stewart. Great when he was with the Faces, but everything past about 1995 pretty much stinks. His covers are the worst. Acid Head Banger bands covered in tats who scream at the top of their lungs. No one can understand a single lyric. At least no one my age. Most of the soundtrack from Top Gun. Especially "Take my Breath Away". Simply horrible. Take my breath away indeed, just suffocate me with a pillow.
  19. OK. I'm a bit of a reprobate, slightly under the influence and I like to stir the pot. So far we have threads for what we're listening to and another with interesting and / or cool band names. I challenge you to name a band or bands (or songs) that just make you retch. Songs that make you get up and RUN to change the station if you were listening to the radio. I fully understand that this topic may breed bad blood as toes are stomped upon. Too bad, suck it up buttercup! If it's done with some degree of diplomacy we can all vent and have some fun at the same time. No holds barred. Let em rip. My list is long and varied but I'll toss out a few just to stoke the flames of animosity and aggitate my bile. -------------- Smashing Pumkins. The dude doesn't do nasal well. Journey. Too much of an ordinary thing has fried my brain. They were all over the radio in the 80s. I'm sorry, they weren't that good. Rush. Geddy Lees shreiking is too much. Guess I didn't take enough acid. Neil Sadaka. Just shoot me won't ya? This one was a reach, but still gives me dry heaves from my yout. Pretty much anything HipHop or cRap Michael Buble. Lets just trash all the old standards shall we? Cranberries. Just shoot her will ya? That chick from Canada. Not the hot one, but the other one. Although the hot ones music has taken a major turn for the worse. (Mo' worser) Perhaps she's on your list? I hope that I have offended some of you enough to post in rebuttal or add your own. This could get interesting. I think I'll refresh my cocktail.
  20. Autobahn or, was it Kraftwerk? (Long live Uli Kunkle! aka Karl Hungus aka Peter Storemare) Little Feat Mott the Hoople The Buzzcocks Eeek a Mouse The Muhfugs Widespread Panic Social Distortion Ba$tard Sons of Johnny Cash The Smithereens The Swollen Pimples The Jizzmaticks (OK, so I made the last two up)
  21. I bought a very nice etched glass Klipsch logo for very little from a guy on ebay. I set it on top of my CF3s and it looked GREAT. Then one day I was messing around my domo and stepped on it. Turns out that the vibration from the speaks (LOUD) walked that mother right off the speaker and fell to the floor. I'm not sure if it broke when it fell, but I know for a fact that it broke when I stepped on it! Had a few Gin & Tonics in me that night, so there were extenuating circumstances.
