  1. I put the app on my EVO but it won't work. At "choose a player" it says that my player is not found. Please check to make sure your network is running and available. Under WIFI network settings on the phone it reads that its obtaining my address but it then dumps it over and over. It reads..."Remembered, secured with WEP" but then immediately drops off and swithes back to "obtaining address". Over and over. My eyesight sucks and using the squeezebox remote is almost worthless. I also have a harmony. I'll take a look and see if it will work with the touch.
  2. I have CF3s. I have no idea what series, serial, number, gigahertz, whozit or whatzit they are. None of that matters to me. I flippin' love them. I did an A/B with my Fortes and was wildly disappointed with the later. Sure the Fortes sound great, but it just seemed to me that there was so much missing, particularly the further the big knob went CW. They remind me of a time in my youth when both of my brothers owned Fiats. One had a spyder and the other a sedan. The harder you pushed those little cars the more enjoyment they provided. The key was to rev 'em way up and toss them around, just like a cheap tart! Wail on your CFs and smile.
  3. The policy verbiage is minimal and of course you could hear the underwriter laughing under his breath when explaining just how non comprehensive the policy actually is, but I'll dig mo' deeper. The evening of the flood the city had 8 large sucker trucks out on the main drag behind my place. The important distinction here is that the water came not from the direction OF the water (Chesapeake Bay), but from the opposite. Since the flood I have seen more municipal work crews out messing around in the streets than I've seen in my whole time here. Makes one wonder just what is going on. There is a new gas station going in less than 500 yards away. They had a large diesel pump running all last week in an attempt to pump out the large pits the gas tanks will live in. Days and days of pumping. I was told today that they or another contractor may have messed up the drainage pipes along the main drag, so this may also be a factor. I've lived here for 10 years and have been here through many prolonged periods of heavy rain. I've never seen an inch in the parking lot until just a few months ago when the rain water backed up to the tops of the curbs. Factor in hurricane Isabel last month and you have a tremendous amount of foliage down, most of which ended up on the storm drains. I can't help but wonder if the drainage was impaired and was the reason behind the flood. Needless to say, my neighbors and I are keenly interested. If I had to guess, well over 100 cars were totaled by this flood in my area of town alone. There are piles of carpeting, padding and drywall all over my neighborhood. It would be nice to get some renumeration from the renumerators, no matter who they may ultimately be. I'm not looking to win the lotto, just to be compensated by someone for what I lost if there was a screw up. The only part of town that flooded was mine and the whole place is flat as a pancake.
  4. Many thanks for all the kind words. I'm not really morose because as Les said, "it's just stuff!" Name that movie and win your lady friend a kewpie doll. But using the innernets to find the answer is cheating. That disclaimer aside, music and my gear are items that I enjoy constantly when home and long for when on the road. I travel for work and when on the road I often enter a funk just because I miss my music. Hell I can eat, sleep and crap anywhere, but I get to listen to MY tunes on MY gear only when I'm home. So the search for more gear continues. Today I sent out offers on a pair of KLF30's and Forte II's. I rent, and have "renters insurance". IOW, I have bupkis. Had the place gone up in a great conflagration I'm sure there would have been an "out" in my policy for that as well. So....along with the furn, an amp, vacuum, speakers, tools, and a whole boatload of other "stuff" I'm hosed. Thankfully I have a second stack of gear upstairs (minus the albums). Ultimately I think that the CF's will be fine but with dicked up cabinets. But they're big and any imperfections will be readily apparent. Before this they were 9's, perhaps an 8 to the most discriminating and looked fantastic. I loved to fire them up for those who know nothing about decent audio and watch their expression. And I loved to go clockwise with the big knob and alter mine. In closing, this Gin & Tonic is fantastic and my kid still thinks I'm cool. How many parents of teenagers can say that?
  5. Log on to Logitech's website and register to receive emails. You may find yourself the happy recipient of a 50% off coupon from them one day. I got my Touch for 150 bucks with free shipping. It doesn't get much better than that! I took the easy way out and simply converted most of my music (200Gig+) to AppleLossless. Once the tunes are on iTunes the upgrade is simple and free. Probably not nearly as good as FLAC (from what I read) but EASY and right now. I can get jiggy with another format later if I choose. I am using it right out of the box with no additional DAC and my sonic turd. When I do an A/B comparison with the CD source material I can't hear the difference other than the Touch seems a bit brighter. For my money and ears, it's great. I have been very happy with it so far.
  6. My Domo flooded to about 8 inches and my guts are torn and mangled. My suckmeter is pegged. I have an odd desire to harm small defenseless creatures and take a baseball bat (or crowbar ala Walter Sobchak) to a cars windshield. I now know what's its like to have been FBASITA! My CF3's took it like a man and stood tall. The ports allowed the water in the front to just below the bottom woofer. I've had hairdryers shoved in them for two days now, but the MDF is swelling and will surely crack and check. Fortunately they still sound great and I have been wailing on them over the roar of huge dehumidifiers and drying fans. I'm afraid that they'll die so I want to get all out of them I can before that day. My KG3.2's became buoyant and flopped on their faces and floated around like ducks. Poor bastards. They were already in fairly rough shape. Since I paid almost nothing for them that helps ameliorate their loss. Perhaps they'll work once dried. My F*%^@#g albums...sat in the water for over three hours and their jackets are completely ruined. I'm sick. NONE of the crap I don't care about was ruined, just the GOOD stuff. Heck I can get carpet and drywall ANYWHERE. How can I salvage the albums? I figure that the grooves are full of grit from the dirty water. Can they be cleaned with a reasonable level of success? Because if they're going to be noisy then I'll just toss em. 40 years of music trashed. A timeline of what I have liked since I was a kid gone due to the inadequacies of the local storm sewers and a very large stationary storm. All the electronics and my Academy are fine. Back to the liquid pain killer.
  7. I'm stuffing 200 wpc (Phase Linear 400) into a pair of KG3.2s. I got them AND an Academy for 100 bucks so I don't really care if I kill them. They sound GREAT. And needless to say I am not stingy with the big knob.
  8. I wonder how they'll mate up with my "Sonic Turd"??? []
  9. Remember that stupid song......MTV killed the radio or something like that??? Omniscience! Who among us did not suffer immeasureably and profusely during last years abomination of a half time performance at the Super Bowl? That was some heinous feces to be sure. Beyond heinous, God awful, shameless, miasmic, embarrasing, nonmusical, without merit except for that gals tush, thumpathumpa crapcrapcraprap. I am suddenly overcome by the need for self medication and a clean recording of something (someone) worth listening to.
  10. While I fully realize that these aren't up to others standards, I am fond of big meters. One day, I'll have some tubes as well.
  11. "Kraftwerk blows"???? Don't tell Uli Kunkle, aka Karl Hungous aka Uli the Nihlist! "we believe in nuhsink und tomorrow ve come back and ve cut off your johnson!" I don't believe in compression. In fact I think I'll go decompress with a j and a white russian.
  12. I paid 400 for stock Fortes (not II's). Mint, Walnut. Didn't have the nerve to try and haggle with him as they were perfect, with all original boxes, papers etc. Just like buying them from the store! All that being said, I think that 575 is a bit rich. I base that on two years of watching them on here, Craigslist, eBay and other web sites.
  13. Well not actually a thrift store.... Craigslist Teac A 4010 S in decent, but dirty condition. FREE. Today I cleaned the cabinet and it's pretty much perfect. I think it's mahogany. The SS face needs some attention and I have yet to run it since I have no tapes. But, the thing runs in Fwd and Rev, and both FF and Rewind. The price was well within my government cheese envelope! Off to find tapes!
  14. I'm a firefox geek as well. However, I recently had to a reboot and had to use IE to reinstall FF. While I can't comment much since I only used it for a few minutes, I did see some corn in it.
  15. Find him a decent vintage 70s/80s receiver on Craigslist for 50 bucks. It will look retro and his buds will think he's quite the dandy. It won't be made of cheap black plastic. It will have cool lights. It will be cheap and if it gets trashed...oh well. If necessary, give it a half an hour with some deoxy TLC. It will sound better than 90 percent of the crap that passses for audio gear these days. Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, Kenwood, etc etc etc. The more knobs and buttons the better. It's gotta be silver. Add a simple 1/8" stereo pin jack and they can plug their ipods into it. I went this route with my daughter and she has morphed into the resident music lunatic at her school. I sent her off with an old pair of (very nice) small Polk bookshelf speakers and she's very happy. The whole kit is small and easy to break down and move. She keeps her KSF10.5s in her room at home. Spoiled brat.
  16. "Lonesome Whistle" - On the Little Feat HOY HOY album. From Hank to Lowell, fantastic. "The Very Thing That Makes Her Rich" - Ry Cooder on Bop Till You Drop "Blow At High Dough" - Tragically HIp. Only three??? I could go on for a while on this thread....better quit!
  17. I gave one away on CL. But, it was a serious basket case and needed a heinous amount of elbow grease. A massive overflowing amount of heinous (or, heenEEous for those of you so inclined) grease. That being said, I wish that I kept it! I have a MINT G5700 now that does my bedroom Fortes fairly proud. $45 on CL.
  18. I have a very cheap T-Path amp which I picked up on ebay. It sounded amazing on my Fortes, but not so good on my CF3's. It's very clean and OK for lower volume listeneing, but when I stomped on it the little mother couldn't produce the goods. No thump. Of course my benchmark is a 200 wpc sledgehammer, so probably not a good comparison, or comparitor. It alsosounded good on my brothers Chorus IIs, but not as good as his regular amp. But for the size and price.....its an amazing device. It now lives on my boat and drives a small pair of bookshelf Klipsch just fine. I had significant interference issues using a traditional auto amp and the T-Path eliminated 99 percednt of it. I use an ipod with lossless recordings for source. I probably lose some quality and volume / fullness due to the lousy signal, but it's still a great improvement over what I had.
  19. If I can convince my captors to release me from rehab in time I'd love to come over. Will there be drinking??
  20. I picked up a Harmony 668 on CL for 30 bucks. Took me about 15 mins online to program it. It works like a champ!! It even has a built in self help function which is very clever. If something isnt't configured correctly you hit "help". It then goes through a check function until it gets it right. Slick. That being said, I am unable to get it to config my system for watching a Netflix vid streamed from my laptop. Its a minor issue, and its probably operator error in both programing and use than the gizmo itself. One thing I like it that this unit does not have an internal battery and a charging stand. It just takes regular old batts. I prefer that because eventually that fancy internal batt is going to crap out and then you're out of luck. I'd rather have the simplicity.
  21. http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/ Good place to start. I have some even older Phase gear and I got some good advice from them. The forum isn't nearly as busy as this site so you may not get replies right away. I know little about the gear, but that amp is fairly highly regarded by some. I'd love to have one. I have an older Phase Tuner and it's a bit of a toad. Looks cool as hell, but there's more to audio than looks....I think.
  22. The biggest ones you can get through the door?
  23. I purchased a one T-Byte external to handle my music, photos and stuff that I'll want to access after my current PC croaks. I ended up reripping all of my iTunes music to Apple Lossless. It took considerable time but was well worth the effort. There is a recent thread regarding this with excellent information from some guys who REALLY know this stuff if you're interested. A few things to consider: 1. I quickly overloaded my 120 gig iPod and had to switch to manual synch to load my iPod. The lossless format takes up a significant amount of space. I had to remove quite a bit of material from the iPod. 2. If you do not own a particular disc and only have the mp3, you can still morph that recording into lossless using iTunes. This is a nice feature which I stumbled across. Open iTunes, select a song / album which is in mp3 format, highlight those songs, select Advanced Tab, select "Create Apple Lossless Format". It will convert the mp3 in just a few seconds. Pretty nifty. 3. I am using Apple Lossless just because I'm lazy, and use an iPod. There are other / better ways to skin this cat. 4. I plan on purchasing a Logitech iTouch in the near future. Having the majority of my music in Lossless will make a huge difference when I am listening on my home system, much more so than when just listening to the iPod, so this will be a huge improvement when streaming from my PC. 5. You can buy a shirt pocket sized USB 500 gig drive for less than 75 bucks. In a few months, it will probably be less than $50. Idiot proof storage.
  24. No on the S Vid. I was so distraught over my audiodicament that I tied one on and left the country the next day. I am currently in Canada self medicating. I shall return to more familiar envorions within the next week or so. I hope to have an S Vid avail at that time. thx.
