  1. I know, I know no comparison, at least at first blush. I've had Khorns for nearly 25 years, so I'm quite familiar with their sound. I ebayed a pair of WO Heresys as a Christmas present for #1 son. A few observations: Nice balance. These speakers sound good. In some ways the top end sounds smoother or less in your face than the Khorns. Where's the bass? However, the upper & mid bass are satisfying enough. Dang, the cabinets are nice with a fine grade of veneer. On paper, sensitivity of 99 vs. 104db doesn't seem that great a difference. I mean, they're both way efficient, right? But in practice, it's a big difference...equating to a big 1/3 of the knob travel on my amp to get reasonably equivalent volume. Yeah, by comparison to anything, Khorns sound huge. Or in my case, by comparison anything else sounds so small...
  2. I think it's more than a picture frame, ugly as it is. It's a D, which should mean raw birch, but the wood looks like walnut or similar, including the edges. Somebody has done some work...for that.
  3. Neat cabinetry. No information on model, SN, etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150063439591&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:73&isfrommerc=1&refitem=150061347636&itemcount=8&refwidgetloc=watch_reminder_email&refwidgettype=osi_widget&refitem=150061347636&itemcount=8&refwidgetloc=watch_reminder_email&refwidgettype=osi_widget&isfrommerc=1
  4. It tests musical acuity, not hearing acuity. The natural advantage goes to the musician.
  5. Safer and cheaper, too. This from a confirmed baked turky hater. BBQ Turkey: Split bird in half. Make deep cuts in the thighs and breasts. In butter saute diced onions, garlic, bell pepper, fresh parsley and andouille sausage.Stuff the saute mix into the "cuts" and some under the skin. Triple wrap each half with three layers of heavy duty foil. Place on grill, bone side down, for two hours. Meanwhile, take any leftover saute mix and combine with a small bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce. Mix in a small can of frozen limeade concentrate (preferably thawed). After two hours, turn the halves over, open the tops and pour in the BBQ sauce mix. Leave on grill, meat side down, another hour. Voila! BBQ turkey. 'Tis amazingly good.
  6. Looks good to me. I went ahead and snagged them as a Christmas gift for #1 son. Thanks for the heads up...
  7. I'm thinking of buying my son some Klipsch for Christmas. I've been looking abound on ebay and keep seeing the Synergy F1 & F2. What thinkest thou? Side note: Don't any ebay Klipschers live in Louisiana fercryinoutloud?
  8. Wow, that's a wicked thick plinth. It looks properly heavy. Belt or DD? Appx. year of mfr? I think it's just beautiful.
  9. On the 30' wall with a false corner at about 18' would get my vote. My Khorns never sounded better than when driven by an 8b. Magical. Your next move will be the crossovers...either having them freshened up or getting new ones.
  10. We babysat a lovely pair of early Khorns in piano black for a few years. They were 1955 and 1957, if memory serves. When the owners finally got the right house and picked up their speakers (along with their Mac 225/C22) I HAD to replace them, of course. I ended up with '77's. Immediately apparent was the improved bass on the newer set. The mids were a mixed bag: more clarity and definition, less smooth. The highs were more extended on the 77's as well. Both were wonderful, but for me the 77's won out. No telling what the results might have been were the crossovers freshened on the old pair.
  11. Fini, 'tis my birthday as well, but I'm a whopping 52. And it's my little sis's birthday too, She weighs in at a respectable 49 today. Love Sonoma County...I'm partial to western.
  12. Love that footwork! I spent many an idle hour whiling away my confinement at military school listening to Jimmy Smith albums. My roomie had a stack of them as well as a stack of Marantz tube gear. Heady stuff for a dorm room.
  13. Allan, while you're at it, I think you missed my previous question to you on this thread... Do you know the personnel with "Trane on the Naima clip you posted? (It's fabulous!)
  14. Nice. Did you look at the Assad clips I posted on p 1 of this thread? []
  15. Enjoyed the Diaz clip, Andy. I have played a smattering of Lauro and every bit of it is great fun. I love the interplay of 6/8 against 3/4 in all of his Venuelan waltzes.
  16. Here they are doing a very entertaining lollipop, 4-hands (both playing the same guitar). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdMeO6U-1LY
  17. At your service, speedball. I got your guitar playing right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PChkxDbFuUw The incomparable duo, Sergio & Odair Assad, tearing up some Piazzolla
  18. Thanks for that Richter. Wow again. Allan, who are the personnel on the 'Trane clip? It is just wonderful and they are heating up a fairly cold space it seems. Wow.
  19. Well, I'm back from a self-imposed hiatus. Interested in a Technics SP10/3009II improved? The "improved" means fixed headshell. The SP10 is in the Technics wood plinth/spring base. Not saying I'm selling, but who knows. I could do with something a tad smaller.
  20. Dr. Bill, you & I are on the same page concerning Bach. There is so much tender & emotional music in the cantatas it's astounding. Also, for raw emotional power I love the Chaconne from the violin partita. It's a musical expression of Bach's grief, struggle and eventual realease into peace following the death of his first wife. Strong stuff.
  21. Yes, the Ravel orchestration of Pictures displays the orchestra at full tilt. Mahler is a nice choice for that as well. Break in on his #1, then rock out with with 2&3
  22. I think sound would suffer from ceiling reflections, especially in the critical mirange. Alternately, you could put some kind of structure atop the cabinets to protect 'em & keep them drink-free.
  23. Hmmm, too many players, too little time. Roland Dyens Manuel Barrueco The brothers Assad (hey, their sense of ensemble is so tight, they count as ONE player!)
